"Dear Dan" Letters

december 2004

A Christmas thought for the Mesmerist... "And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came with out tags. It came without package, boxes and bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?" -Theodor Seuss Geisel

Ahhh... Christmas.....absorb all the love coming your way...there is an abundance!

Dan, since the release of "Souvenirs" I have been a fan. Your solo acoustic concert at Houston's Music Hall in 1981 or 1982 was one of the most memorable concerts I have attended in my life. It was magical. You talked to the audience like we were sitting in your living room telling us about your songs and playing them for us. Stay strong and I look forward to enjoying the music you haven't even thought about yet. You have been blessed with a God given talent and have used that talent to bless your fans with the enjoyment and inspiration it gives us. Good luck to you and yours. You are all in our prayers. ~ Terry Roberts (Houston, Texas)

How wonderful to have so many sending you good thoughts and prayers! Add me, another stranger, to the list, and let us all be a part of the positive energy you cull from this wonderful effort. I'm sure that if you close your eyes for a moment, you can feel it. Let it surround you, heal you, carry you on--all the good feelings you've sent out through your music flowing right back to you. I think of you often, and always with hope and happiness. ~ Amanda

Just a quick note to say that our thoughts are with you and that we think that you were absolutely right to make that statement about your privacy. Good luck and God speed. ~ Mike and Chris

Hey Dan, As a "fellow Dan", I wish you the best. I am 49, and on January 13 I undergo surgery to remove my prostate. My surgeon says that my cancer was caught early, and that he's sure I will be cancer-free after the radical procedure. I'm still scared. I hope that he's correct, and I hope that I can enjoy many years of listening to the gift of music that you have given to me, and many others. ~ Dan Awender, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Dan, you have given us many years of enjoyment through your music. It is now a privilege for us to pray for your recovery. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. ~ Mary & Lon Foree, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin

Dear Mr. Fogelberg, I have been a fan since first hearing "Part of the Plan" when I was in junior high. Your music has been with me ever since--from "Longer" being played at my wedding to my adorable husband, Tom, to the splendid Christmas CD I am listening to as I write this. We're from Iowa but now live in a log house just outside of Ned and pass by the Caribou Ranch often, and I think of you. I think my absolute favorite song (oh, there are so many!) is "Nether Lands", which so eloquently puts into words our feelings about the gift of living in the mountains. We wish you health, love, and some tiny measure of the happiness your music has brought to our lives. Blessings to you and your family this holiday season, and

always. And thank you. Love ~ Joan and Tom Hemm

There is an old proverb that says "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I guess I am now ready. Your music has been in my head and in my heart since I was in college. But suddenly, I just felt the need to really know the whole teaching. I carefully listened to your voice while I studied the lyrics on the web site. I have heard "Part of the Plan" hundreds of times in the past. But now something was just different. When I heard "I had a woman who gave me her soul but I wasn't ready to take it." Well, Some kind of message shot through to me. I immediately thought of Debbee, my girlfriend from 33 years ago -- when I was 16. My conscience awoke and I saw my mistakes -- the innocent mistakes of youth. It was now time to find Debbee, to reconnect and to learn about her life over the past 3 decades. After a few phone calls, I was to learn that my confession would remain unspoken. Debbee died tragically in a house fire in 1981 -- she was only 27 years old. She has been gone from this earth for 23 years -- and I was completely unaware. I am trying to contact her brothers to find out about the last 10 years of her life, and about her untimely death. I am heartsick that I never told Debbee -- and never can -- how much she really meant to me. But, perhaps, from her heavenly perch, she knows all this. It amazes and inspires me that you had the insight to write such words when you so young. Thank you for having the wisdom to teach me that, somehow, this is all part of the plan. With gratitude and best wishes to you and your family. ~ Michael

Dan - It was with immense sadness that I learned of your illness, and I wish you a speedy and complete recovery. I would add that ever since I heard Souvenirs over 30 years ago, I have been a fan. Your music has been a constant throughout triumphs and adversity, and inspired, uplifted, caused reflection and taken me to another place. That album. plus Nether Lands, Innocent Age (who hasn't had a "Same Old Lang Syne" moment!), Portrait and Full Circle will all go to the desert island! OK, they all will. It is interesting to note that everyone I have played your music to has had a "who is this bloke?" comment, and sought out the albums. Like other British well wishers, I would love to come to the States, and catch one of your live shows. But you do have a strong following this side of the pond, and we would equally love to see you over here. Looking through the messages it is quite apparent yor music means a lot to a lot of people, so thanks. Keep the faith, and there will always be a Place in the World for Gamblers. Win this game Dan, my thoughts and good wishes go with you. ~ Ian, Kent, UK

Dear Dan, I have been listening to you since 7th grade.(Almost 30yrs.) Your music holds a lot of memories for me. Every cold and raining day I have to listen to Home Free, with a good book, fire place and a cup of hot something. When I heard the news I felt like one of my old dear friends was sick. I really felt bad, My daughter kept saying, Mom what is wrong? I told her you were sick and it really bothered me. You know what she said? "Does that mean we don't have to listen to him everyday anymore" Ha,Ha.I've been to so many of your concerts, that my husband is getting jealous. I tell him you're the only one he has to worry about. Really to put all humor aside. I wish you all the best. I will pray for a fast recovery. I know life is a journey, not always a straight road, sometimes we have to walk up to the mountain top to see the whole view, and many times we need to carry others with us.(I don't know where that came from, but If you read that I hope you get it.) I believe God has a plan for all of us, and everything that happens is for a reason, we may never know why something has happened, until years later or maybe never, and even though it has happened to us, it may not be about us. Thanks for following your heart. ~ Laura Upland Ca.

Good thoughts coming your way bud. Having just experienced prostate cancer myself, I hope all is well. You seriously contributed to my musical experience. Best wishes to you this holiday season. I hope to hear of your well being for years to come. ~ Don Terhorst - Paso Robles, CA

Dan: I am a singer/songwriter who has been influenced by your art. My wife and I danced to "Longer" at our wedding 22 years ago. I just wanted you to know that I was concerned when I heard of your illness. My thoughts and prayers are with you, my brother. Please know that in our weakness, He is strong. Draw your strength from Jesus during this trying time. I'm sure you know that he is One that stays closer than a brother. My prayer for you is complete restoration of health. And, once that is taken care of, I look forward to many more years of musical blessings from a man who is truly gifted. Keep the faith! ~ Steve Moritz, Delanco, New Jersey

Dan, I hope this finds you on the way to recovery. Keep the faith and you are in our prayers!!! ~ Mike Gibson

Dan, I am a survivor of cancer. I am sorry that this happened to you. I know how overwhelming it is when you first find out that you have it. One of the biggest things that I learned through the whole thing was to "have a positive attitude." I am sure you heard that one and I am sure you already have that base covered. Please Know that there are many people praying and thinking about you. God bless. ~ Jon

Mr. Fogelberg, Recover. Reclaim health. Live long and prosper. These are my prayers for you. I thank you for your music. I thank you for your writing. From an enduring fan and fellow musician. ~ Tim Vanover, Warren, Michigan.

Dan, I've been sitting here for over half an hour now trying to think of some way to express my appreciation for all your music has meant to me. It's far more difficult to put into words than I thought it would be. You have such a gift for touching the deepest part of a person's soul through your music. I know my life has been spiritually enriched - not by simply listening to your music but often by experiencing it on a very personal level. I pray the Creator Spirit will help you and Jean through this difficult time and as you can see by the number of people leaving messages on this site you are truly loved - not the kind of adoration given to rock stars by their fans - but the genuine love of people who hold your music in their hearts like a close, personal friend. God bless ~ Doug Sternes, Toowoomba Australia

We wish you courage, faith, and support of all your loved ones. We hope to see you in concert again! ~ Theresa and Shawn

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. I wish you all the goodness that your music has brought to me. I heard one of your old songs on the radio today as I was driving and I knew every word in it. It brought tears to my eyes to remember back of a younger age, and sitting with an old boyfriend of mine at Red Rocks listening to you. It was a night of magic. I bought a shirt that night that had your name on it, and wore that shirt until it was almost in shreds. I started thinking what you were going through and felt the need to tell you how much your music has meant to me over the years. It was there through the good times and the sad times, weddings, funerals and sitting home alone just "thinking" parties, "girlfriend times" and boyfriend times. You were a big part of my life, though you'll never know it. Please get well and let's see you again at Red Rocks with that Colorado sunset. Take care. Love ~ Sandy

Dan, your incredible music "found me", 25 years ago while in college. This at a time, when I was stuck in a rut of both listening to and playing predominantly southern rock. Not a bad choice musically--but at the time, my health (bad choices of the 70's) and my spiritual life needed a huge boost. Your lyrics and spellbinding music--without a doubt, help lead me to better lifestyle choices. From "Part of the Plan" -which helped me to "understand", to "Leader of the Band", which kept me "stronger than" during my father's long journey and perish from cancer. ~My wife and two children love to hear me perform some of those wonderful songs. They will always keep me grounded and in touch with the beauty God has provided us all. Our prayers are with you! ~ Bob Andresen Minnetonka, MN

Dear Dan, In the early seventies you played at the Palace in Waterbury, Ct. This beautiful, historical theater closed in the eighties with a final performance by Tony Bennett. After tireless community effort, the Palace reopened this November with a grand opening performance by Tony Bennett. We are hoping that someday you will return to Waterbury and play the Palace again. It will truly be a beautiful moment.

All I can say is that I'm stunned and saddened today as I've learned the news of your illness. Just yesterday, I went to buy your Home Free CD (I've had the album for 30 years, as is true for the rest of your albums) and have been driving around today listening to your wonderful music (the other CD's of yours, as well). I've been a fan since my high school days in the 70's. In fact, my husband and I just can't seem to throw out our "albums" and your Souvenirs album is sitting right at the foot of my attic stairs, waiting to join the rest of our large collection!

In any case, I wish you well and have much confidence that you will make a full recovery. Your lyrics are really a part of my soul, and I pray that your own spirituality will carry you and your family through this difficult time. I do believe having a positive outlook is KEY, and it seems that you do have one. My heart goes out to you, Dan, as you've touched mine so profoundly over my lifetime. Best wishes for a full recovery. ~ Heidi Candell

Dan- Hope all is going well, want to wish you and yours a magical and blessed holiday season. Get well soon!! ~ Karen, Denver, CO

My wife and my own thoughts are with you . Years ago my wife turned me on to your music and I can't say enough what songs have meant to us. She is now a breast cancer survivor. Cancer will be beat and you will be there singing your songs and enjoying your life for many years to come. Thanks for your music, and thank you for being you. ~ Michael

Dear Dan, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Since 1971 and all through my high school years, your music influence me in so many ways. Every time I play your music or just hear one of your songs on the radio, wonderful memories overwhelm me. My best wishes to you and may you have a wonderful holiday season. ~ Mendy Fowler, Murfreesboro, TN

Many years ago, during the storms that we all endure when we are "growing up", your songs gave me strength, to get through those times.Your music would quiet my heart, and your words would touch my soul. Throughout the following years, you have never disappointed, and it seems your music and lyrics are getting better and better. You have been truly blessed.  That being said, thank you Mr. Fogelberg, for sharing your blessing with us, your fans, through your music. My thoughts and most importantly, prayers, are with you. ~ Lori Giles

Best Wishes for you, Dan. My wife and I have seen you many times and each occasion was special. One of our first dates was a show you did in St.Paul, MN when we were sitting in the second row. What an amazing entertainer you are. We wish you the very best and you are in our prayers for a speedy recovery. ~ Jim & Sheila Woodruff, Lino Lakes, MN

Dan, Your voice and songs have carried me through the years since I was a teen in Illinois (1960's-early 70's). Let my wish for your renewed excellent health help carry you through this journey. Millions of fans hold light for you each day and hope you feel it glowing what dark tried to cloud your thoughts. Hurry back and bring with you new words and music. Blessings and a bright path ahead. ~ Mimi DiFrancesca Heberlein, East Lansing, Michigan

Always loved your tunes...Best wishes, prayers are with you...sc

Dear Dan, I have followed you from the beginning. Your musical and lyrical talents have been a major influence to me throughout the years. You have inspired me personally as well as in my own musical endeavors. I saw you last year at Navy Pier. Your stage performance was wonderful. It was a memorable night for me. I believe that God has blessed you in many ways. If this written note is the closest I ever get to shaking your hand, I want you to know that I pray that God will continue to be with you and your family. Dan, through knowing your music, I know that you have a great heart. You deserve nothing but good things. Get well soon. ~ Sam Elia

I consider myself more of a spiritual than religious man, but my prayers go out to THE man who has inspired me like no other. The joy you have brought into my life is immeasurable. I wish for you only the VERY best, Dan. ~ Bud J.

Dear Dan, I have been a fan ever since I can remember and there is a sense of euphoria every time I listen. I have always had the love of music in my soul and there is something to be said for the incredible gift that God has given to you. You have been put here on this earth to touch so many lives and now, I too am passing that on to my own children. My son loves to fall asleep to your music. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have cried listening to "Longer" hoping that one day I would have the honor of having those words ring true in my own life. I have met and married my best friend last year and I am now about to lose him to Afghanistan for about 18 mos. with the Army Reserve. I can only say that your music will most definitely hold my heart while he is gone. May God's blessings be on your life and may you find healing in this time of need. Your are a wonderful inspiration and we love you tremendously. You are continuously in our prayers. We love you, Dan! ~ Brenda Hernandez, Raleigh, NC

Dan and family - All the best and good wishes from all your Scottish fans. When you are well enough to tour, what about a date or two in Scotland. God bless ~ Big Sandy.

Dear Dan, I danced with my dad to your song "Leader of the Band" when my husband and I got married 8 years ago. Dad bought me my first guitar at age 12 ("I thank you for the music"), was an on-the-road trucker ("stories of the road"), helped me sprout wings and venture out into the world ("freedom when it came my time to go"), and was (and is:-)) kind and tough just when I need it most. I make a point of saying "I love you" often, partly because of your song. You touch many lives. May God touch yours abundantly with comfort, strength and healing. Do take care. Thanks. ~ Margie (Illinois)

Dear Dan, I started to listen to your music in the early 70s. A friend of mine turned me on to Home Free, I've been hooked ever since. I have had the opportunity to see you perform at places like Red Rocks and countless other places. Whenever you're in the area I make it a point to catch your show. You have been an inspiration to my music. I have spent most of my life in Colorado in Boulder & the Vail area. I remember a little party after a gig you did in Vail some 20 years ago, where I had the chance to sit in with you, something I'll never forget. You played my old Martin D18 that I still & always will have. That old guitar has never sounded so good. It breaks my heart to hear of your illness and I wish you speedy and complete recovery. Thank you so much for sharing your life and amazing talents with all of us. I hope to hear more in the future. Get well soon. ~ Jim from Gypsum, Colo.

Over the years I have listened and loved your music. I am only 21 years old but my mother had me listening to every album that you recorded since I was born. So much of your music has touched different parts of my life. When I was just 10 years old I sang "Forefathers" in my school's talent show. I was so proud of that song even though I know that most of those students didn't know who wrote that song, but I did. You have also meant a great deal to my mother. A few years back, on your last summer tour, we went to Interlochen in Michigan to see you. For me it meant a lot because I was able to spend time with my mother who was not close to me at the time. For Christmas that year I found working passes from old tours, one in 1976 I believe and framed them for her. I spend most of my time working with bands in different venues in Michigan and have taken my mother to concerts around the state, taking her back stage to see what I do as a stage hand and letting her see the show from my angle. I have always wanted to do that for one of your shows. I pray that some day I might be able to do that. I pray for you and keep you in my thoughts. I hope that you will one day grace one of the stages that I work on. Thank you for your music, for the inspiration that you give me when I hear that music, and for the hope that you instill in your songs and lyrics. Thank you. ~ Olivia

Greetings, Dan - I am not in the habit of scribing fan letters, but I am currently sitting at my desk and listening to your Christmas CD, parts of which sound quite inspired. I was sorry to learn of your illness, but I wish you comfort and healing so that you can get back to the business of making people smile. Nina is a good friend of mine, so I've had the chance to meet you a couple of times and discuss my fondness for "The Reach". Here's to another successful haul in the near future....get well. ~ Jeff Weber, Irvine, CA

You have been such a positive influence in my husband's life which has "rubbed off" on me. We celebrated one of our early anniversaries with you in Chicago and have seen you several times in Merrillville. We have been married for 23 years and have enjoyed having you in our lives. (I'm sure you feel old reading this - sorry). I pray for you often for a quick recovery. Thank you for sharing the gift God gave you with the rest of us. ~ Cara in Indiana

Hi Dan, I am so hopeful that you actually get to read these messages because for years I've wanted to be able to express my gratitude to you. To this day I vividly remember where I was the first time I heard "Part of the Plan" on the radio. I really am not exaggerating when I say that your music has been an absolutely integral part of my life for the past 25 years. The instruments and lyrics and the spirit that brings them alive have greatly inspired me. Your music, together with many hikes in the Rocky Mtns (especially the San Juans!) has helped me to keep focus and find balance in the ups and downs of life. I have a son who just turned 18, and having walked through the challenge of raising a teenage son and looking back at my own youth, I finally understand the Thomas Wolfe quote that you put on the inside cover of The Innocent Age. Thank you for helping to clarify that for me. If I may be so bold, I'd like to suggest a good book that you might enjoy; it helped me through some rough times. It's called "A Bend In the Road", by David Jeremiah. Thank you so much for all you've given to us these many years; we're looking forward to more! May God bless you Dan, I'll be praying for your swift recovery. ~ Dan from Ohio

Dear Dan, I am sorry to hear of your illness, but I pray that you will know the peace and grace of God in these days. I join all your fans in wishing you a quick recovery and look forward to hearing the good news of the days ahead. God bless you! ~ David Delph

Dear Dan, As someone who first became enamored of your music when I attended a concert of yours in Jackson, MI about 30 years ago, and who has enjoyed your music during all the intervening years, it is dismaying to learn of your battle with cancer. My wife and I have several dear friends, though, who, thanks to lots of prayers and good medical care, have conquered the disease, and I am confident that you are well-covered in both of these critical areas, as well. Our prayers join those of the many who are supporting you in this quest, and we will enlist the additional prayers of our Prayer Circle, as well. "The First Christmas Morning" has become my all-time favorite Christmas album, and I am fervently hoping for a sequel, but trust your heart to resume creating the music that speaks so eloquently to a world in desperate need of good music and inspiration, just as soon as your strength and health permit. May God bless you and your family and loved ones richly during this time of year when we celebrate His gift of salvation to the world, and may He "banish misfortune away" from your household. With profound gratitude for your unique contributions to our collective conscience and our musical library, and fervent prayer for your speedy recovery. ~ David Green Vancouver, WA

I'm not even sure where to begin. I've followed your career and your music for years and like so many others I cannot even begin to express the profound impact your music has had on my life. I was listening to Exiles tonight when I thought I'd check to see if you had a new CD out. That is when I discovered that you were battling prostate cancer. Please know that our prayers are with you. I serve as the pulpit minister at the Gunnison Church of Christ in Gunnison, CO. Many in our congregation know your music well and have a great deal of respect for you. The prayers of our congregation will also be with you. I'm sure you have many around you who will be there for you, but I feel compelled to let you know that if there is anything I can do for you or your family, I would be happy to do so. In the meantime it is my hope that everyone will respect your privacy and that God will give you comfort and healing. Your words and your songs have helped me get through many tough times in my life. While these words are not as eloquent or as poetic, it is my hope that they will help you get through a tough time in yours. Get well soon! I look forward to more great music from you! ~ Darrin Cowger - Gunnison, CO

Dear Mr. Fogelberg, My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you. I sincerely hope that you are doing well, and I must say that hope is expectation. Smile. You are without a shadow of a doubt my very favorite lyricist. Your music speaks directly to my Spirit. I love your voice and your soul. I've only had the opportunity of seeing you perform once a few years ago, but I look forward to seeing you perform again in the near future. God has blessed you with a beautiful gift. My very favorite song that you've ever written is "Magic Every Moment." Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the Artist that you are. Thank you for sharing your God given gifts and talents with the world. Keep up the good work and Get Well Soon. A true fan ~ Karen

Hey Dan: The tears started to flow when I checked the website to find out about your concerts and read about your illness. I've been listening to your music since 1981 when I first met my husband, we played "Longer" as our first dance song at our wedding. Unfortunately after 25 years, we have separated but I hope it is only temporary. I continue to listen to your music as it reminds me alot of mine and my ex's relationship and all we've been through. I pray that your healing comes rapidly and successfully because there are many fans that would like to continue seeing you in concert. I saw you perform twice in the 80's in Michigan. Oh, I named my son after you. He's a singer/songwriter/maybe future lawyer. Again, my prayers are with you, I pray to God through Jesus Christ that you are healed and well for many more years. God Bless ~ Susan Priestner

I am not a religious person, but you are in my prayers. You have a special gift that brings hope to millions. Now may they bring hope to you. God bless you. ~ Sharon Liss-Sweeney

Dear Dan: My heart dropped today when I was speaking with a friend & we went on your website to see when you will be playing in California anytime in the next year. Your album Nether Lands and that particular song itself  led me to my own Nether Lands in Northern California (way northern). I believe we are equipped with the power of healing ourselves and it is our own spirit that finds the path. I know you will go there and find comfort in its familiarity and serenity in its purity. You are so blessed..... Respectfully ~ Lena-Humboldt County, California

Dear Dan And Family, To all of you our best wishes for your well-being and calm spirit as you go through these days ahead. You have given me energy and strength since 1974. May that strength be with all of you now, and the assurance of our love and continued encouragement. Love & Thanks ~ Dave Harwood

Dear Dan, What can I say that everyone else hasn't already? Your music has meant so much to so many people, including me. A friend of mine sang "Longer" in my wedding. Your music moves me to tears, laughter & joy. Thank you so much for your talent and for giving us your beautiful music. I was very upset to hear the news of your cancer. I have every faith that you will beat this! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May you have joy, peace & health this holiday season. ~ Tami Ashley - Myrtle Beach, SC

Wishing you a speedy recovery........I'm a long time fan, with many of your songs in my head. My Conn. based band Hardwood is about to start its 25th year, and we still cover 'Morning Sky'. Sending you Positive Energy! ~ Michael Wrubel

My mom just got your Soundstage concert and watched it crying. I hope you get better cause she is sad. I was at your concert with her and my dad in Atlantic City 2 yrs ago and you smiled at me. We were in the front row. Take care and get well soon. ~ Preston Jardine

Dear Dan and Jean ~~~ I have been rotating through various holiday CDs at home and on the road. Dan, your album, The First Christmas Morning, is both a delight and a blessing to me and my family and friends. I have given many copies as Christmas gifts since it was released, and have included "In The Bleak Midwinter" in my seasonal acoustic performances for a few years now. This year I finally worked out "This Endris Night," which is a beautiful counterpart to the perhaps better known "Coventry Carol." I might never have been intrduced to these two beautiful carols were it not for you. Indeed, your Christmas album is so Christocentric as to be a huge encouragement to all Christians I know who have heard it. When I listen to "At Christmas Time," I get a visual of a progression of all that Christmas is about: beginning with merriment, family and good cheer, it proceeds to love of one's neighbor, and ultimately love of God. It is somehow both cyclic, as you end it with the Source (from which one could repeat the entire song with even greater joy), and pyramidal, with a hierarchy of Life represented from bottom to top. It is like a musical Christmas tree, the final verse being the star at the top, and the preceding verses like lights, candles and decorations adorning a living, evergreen faith! So, with that warming thought, I thank you for all you have given us, and I wish you and yours a blessed Christmas. You are continually in my prayers, and my church prays for you each week as well. Yours in Christ ~ Hunt Sidway, Cincinnati OH

Hello, I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful Christmas CD. I traditionally listen to Christmas music the day I do my baking for the holidays. This year I am listening to yours. It is a good combination of uplifting and beautiful soul soothing songs. Thanks again for the many years of music enjoyment you have afforded me. Have a wonderful holiday season and may God continue to bless and heal you. ~ Donna Pennington

So many of your songs have been "about me". 19 years ago, our wedding song was "Heart Hotels." Words from other songs almost define me: "I take my place along the shore, and wait for the tide."; "I will take from Reach all that she has to teach to the depth of my soul."; "There's a love in my life, neither mistress or wife, & she waits for me every morning by the sea. Where the fishing hawk wheels and the sun warms the seals, there she lays at her silent anchorage for me".I can go on. From my younger partying days, I had a friend, like Tony in the song Tucson Arizona, had a classic car, "like a virgin parked in his garage" - my friend died in that car, years ago and that song in so many ways reminds me of him (less the use of the handgun). I, like so many, am praying for your recovery and await your next acoustic tour to Detroit! ~ RB from Farmington Hills, MI

Hello Dan, Just wishing you a very healthy recovery and you will overcome this life testing challenge. Your music is really magic to the ears. You are in our prayers. Yours in caring ~ Marie {Reg Nurse}, Australia xxx

It is the time of year that isn't fully festive and loving until the moment brings sincere holiday greetings from Fogelberg and (Billy) Preston. I'm bummed out that the Spirits have put you on 'pause'. But I know you need the space for healing. I hope you will find a little extra room for wholeness in my best wishes for your recovery. Lose the pain, and be well soon. It's Not Quite the "Same..." without you ~ CheryLee Wilson

Dear Dan, My husband and I have been admirers of your music since the 70’s – always eagerly anticipating the next new album, tape or CD. This weekend, I loaded a CD of your greatest hits into my car player, and when it got to ‘Longer’ I was reminded once again of the huge impact your music had on our courtship. In fact, I bought ‘Phoenix’ as a Valentine’s Day gift for my husband in 1980 – the year we were married – because of the lyrics in that song. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary in January, I’m sure that once again, your music will help us remember the special moments of our lives, and I look forward to your music being part of special moments to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We wish you and yours a holiday season filled with peace, love and most of all, good health. ~ Cindy & Mike, Los Altos , CA

When I heard you had prostate cancer, I became very upset. You have been an important part of my life, as I live a great deal through music. I feel I know and can see you through your music. I am a New Yorker transplanted now in St. Louis. Your concert was the only one I insisted on attending. You gave me the chills. I hope that ugly cancer will leave you so you can continue to be who you are which is a very beautiful man who makes very beautiful music. You are a living legacy.....please continue to be just that. My thoughts are with you. ~ Carol

Dear Dan - As we listen over and over to "The First Christmas Morning" CD, we remember the beautiful evening in August at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga when you sang the title song. We were brought to tears by your incredible musical poetry and the faith that inspired it. We pray that that same faith helps you through this trial. As everyone else has expressed here, you have deeply touched our hearts with your magical gifts-like no one else has. We have passed the love for your works of art to our four kids. We can't wait to see and hear you again. Merry Christmas and the most healthy, happy new year to you and your family. God bless you. ~ Terry and Eileen, Fair Oaks, CA

Dear Mr. Fogelberg, you have been a major musical/lyrical inspiration in my life and I wish you the best. I used to play a lot of your songs with a buddy of mine in college at East Stroudsburg University at coffeehouses and such in the mid-1980's; my wife and I met in high school and one of the major reasons we came together was because we started sharing albums (back then they were albums) by Dan Fogelberg...Home Free, Souvenirs, Captured Angel, Nether Lands, etc. I really admire your talents (providing your own backing vocals and playing many of your own instruments) and your ability to play different styles ("High Country Snows" was awesome! We have a big bluegrass festival here in Salem County every year and I got to meet Doc Watson there one year). We like your "Full Circle" album and we often listen to your Christmas album (I really like its old medieval/renaissance music and I like playing "This Endris Night" and "In the Bleak Midwinter"). It is December and your Christmas CD is in my minivan, as I write this.

I have been teaching English and directing musicals now for 18 years in southern New Jersey and when I do my poetry unit, I often play "Along the Road" and discuss it with students because of all of its interesting metaphors, similes, personifications, and even the allusion to a Pilgrim's faith. I write original songs for voice, piano, and guitar for a hobby and I know that much of my own style developed because of listening to your records--your harmonies, your lyrics, etc. I am motivated to create a Christmas CD of my own, with a song that tells about WHY Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol, another song based on Henry Van Dykes' book The Other Wise Man, and others. I tell you this because I always have appreciated your skill in thoughtful lyric writing and I try to apply it to my own songwriting. In short, thank you for your music teaching. You may not have known that you were a teacher, but you were, as my wife, my friends, and I were listening to your melodies and words and trying to improve our own craft with you as a musical role model. In this way, you have been a fine "living legacy" to your father, who taught music and who you honored in "Leader of the Band."

I went online today because I thought to myself, "I'd really like to see Dan Fogelberg on tour again, especially acoustically" and then I saw the news posted on your website about your health. My wife, Claudia, and I wish you the best; we wish you healing and we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Most Sincerely ~ Paul Kranz

Dear Dan, My husband recently made a Christmas tape and it wouldn't be complete without your voice. I saw you perform years ago at the Valley Forge Music Fair and I remember in particular there was a quiet and stillness after one song you played. I remember wanting to whistle (which I cannot do), or yell something. But the moment seemed so intimate, so perfect, and I didn't want to ruin the peace that was permeating through the Music Fair. Your voice is so rich, so genuine and distinct, and your gift of sharing your music with the world is a true legacy.

I logged onto your site after returning from a much needed vacation in the Pocono Mountains. While in the Pocono's, my husband and I were talking of the best shows we've seen, and yours came up as a favorite. I think of that particular concert, your voice so clear, so beautiful, and I feel peace remembering those too few hours spent there listening. I am a busy person, as is the rest of the world, so I don't get to surf websites and keep on top of all the things that interest me. But the feeling of peace I had when I got home from the Mountains reminded me to check your site for upcoming tours, and I see that you had to cancel a tour for the Fall of 2004. My prayers are so deeply with you. I haven't dealt with cancer in my own body, but I have witnessed its effects on others that I love. I wish you health, peace, and the strength to endure this path you are on. I can only imagine the feeling and emotion that must go through your mind when you hear those words from a doctor or physician. Can only imagine the finality of how it sounds. Yet, still, there are so many breakthroughs that have occurred over the past 25 years in the healing of this DIS-ease, that I know it will only be a matter of time before we can eradicate it. With a lot of prayer, and an understanding of what it took to get our bodies in this state, I believe, we can will ourselves out of it. The works of Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra and others have led me to believe that we all play an important part of what brings us our greatest lessons. Whether that be with health, emotional healing, a traumatic experience not relating to health, etc. I pray that you find the peace and endurance to move past this part of your past, and have it remain there, in the past. And I pray that your current days and your future are ones of love, health, and healing. Hope to see you soon!!!!!!! Warmly ~ Christine Corbett-Gipple, Turnersville, NJ

Dan, You've been such an inspiration over the years, Thanks for sharing your gift My thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish you speedy recovery; you are truly a good soul! God bless. Best wishes ~ Greg

OK...How to put it into words? As simple as this. Have felt a connection for many a year. I am third generation Illinoisan...almost 1/2 Cherokee. Play guitar, piano and sing...almost 47 years. Here is wishing that God's grace and peace be with you. Know this...that I am thankful for you sharing your gift and talents for these many years and for all the memories of being in concert in Phoenix. I remember Gammage Auditorium back when Nether Lands was big and then of course you played "Same Old Lang Syne" as a Christmas present to us in Phoenix. Anyway, I am sure you receive many an email from many a folk. Would love to have a beer with you some time.. As I am fairly certain that will never happen let me just say thanks again.. Peace ~ Tim McCain, Phoenix, Arizona

May God bless you and take good care of you and watch over you always. Happy holidays and merry Christmas.

Hi Dan, I have always loved your music. The first time I saw you in concert was at the SIU-E (Edwardsville, Illinois) campus. You sat on a stool and played your guitar and sang. I fell in love. I have always been your number one fan. My thoughts are with you. I live in Illinois so I was always partial to your song "Illinois" and the fact that you are also an Illinois boy. My Dad recently went thru treatments for prostate cancer. He seems to be doing just fine now. I pray you will have 100% recovery. ~ Pam Watson

Mr. Fogelberg, My (now ex) husband introduced me to your music back in 1980 when I was only 16 years old. I instantly became hooked, and have been an avid follower of your music ever since. I have been to every concert you have put on in my area. Your music and the compassion you put forth into it has helped me personally get through some rough times of my own, as I am quite sure it has touched others in the same way. So thank you very much. I am sending my prayers and thoughts to you and your family for a healthy and speedy recovery. Looking forward to seeing you return to the stage soon. Stay strong on God speed in your recovery Mr. Fogelberg. Sincerely ~ Shelley Donahue

Dan - It is clear from all these good wishes and support that you have touched so many lives. May all the joy and beauty you have inspired us with throughout your career now come back to you, 'full circle' in the healing power and energy we all send you. I saw you many times in Colorado, especially at Red Rocks where your spirit is forever etched. We love you! ~ Angela

Dear Dan, When I first "discovered" your album Souvenirs in 1974 I felt an immediate connection to you and your music. I thought "Yes, I've been looking for this for a long time". Your music has inspired and touched me since then. I'm a singer/songwriter myself and I have learned so much about harmony, guitar, songwriting and production from your songs and your records. Thank you for the gifts you have shared with us all through the years. I'm sorry you are dealing with cancer now but I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that the love and support of your family, friends and fans can offer you some comfort at this difficult time. All the best ~ Tom, Flat Rock, NC

Hi Dan! Just reading the messages and what a lucky guy you are. Hey man , we love ya!! Yes, you have all the trappings of success. The fame, the fortune, the adulation and no doubt when you were younger alot more but you are truly loved and I can only think of one other who is truly loved by the fans for his words, wisdom and honesty and that guy is a fellow Irish man. His name is Christy Moore. You may know him. As I have written before, I loved your music since "The Innocent Age" era. When I was a kid growing up I was more into U2 but always your words and music, along with Christy Moore, captivated me. As I'm now 39 years old I'm wondering how could someone so young write such beautiful and meaningful lyrics such as "Longer", "Nether Lands", "To The Morning", and so many, many more. You were only in your 20's when you wrote them. A favourite Fogelberg track? It´s truly an impossible question. I love "Forefathers" as my mum is also Scottish from Glasgow. "Song For A Carpenter" I love as you did that with "The Chieftains" and I do love that music now. I think it has to be "Leader Of The Band" as that was the beginning of my relationship with your music and I never thought I would still be listening to it 20 odd years later but I am along with so many others all over the world. When you get better make a visit to us over here on this side of that pond.Have a wonderful Christmas, all the best ~ Johnny Good, Seville, Spain.

Dan, Not everyone's religious. So where do I send my prayer? How does one ask for dispensation for another soul if there is nobody to ask and nowhere to send the request? I wish I knew. I only know that when I was a teen growing up in Champaign I chanced to hear you at the Red Herring Coffee House. You were in the chapel one time, I think, and in the basement another. Those evenings have stayed with me all these years. Even then, you were creating songs that would stir the emotions and impact many you would never meet. The spirit of the midwest and of the prairie seemed so much a part of your music. It's a memory I'll cherish forever. ~ Mike Field, Anna Maria Island

Dear Dan, I hope that all these pages of good wishes convey to you how blessed you are to have touched so many people with your music. The only thing better would be for you to weather this difficult storm to write and perform again soon. I have to admit that it's a selfish thought on my part. That's how powerful your music is. Be strong. ~ Ian Dickson, McKinney, TX

Dan, We have grown with you, shared your life, loves, travels and even watched your faith grow these last thirty some odd years. We are not ready to hear your silence and above all else, my good men, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE WITH GOD. Catch my drift?? We pray for those we love and we LOVE you. Besides you need to come back to Tucson again. God is still in the miracle business. ~ Jim and Kathy in Tucson

My wife and I are married 20 years and your music has been with us every step of the way.We recently re -committed ourselves to each other with a night devoted to listening to your music. We wish you God's richest blessings in your illness-you are in our thoughts and prayers. ~ Cathy and Roy Mccurry, Belfast N.Ireland

Dear Dan, You're the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place and why I continue to. You can't imagine how many people you've touched and inspired. I had tickets for your Nov.2004 show at the Palace in Greensburgh, Pa. . I still have 'em. I expect you to hold up your end of the deal. Thanks and we're praying for you. ~ Mike

Dear Dan and Jean - Wishing both of you a Blessed Christmas and the Happiest of New Years...May the coming year be filled with much hope, happiness and good health...Live Strong... ~ Linda Flasch, Palos Hills, Ill.

 Come back to Red Rocks!!!

Your songs have been an enormous inspiration to me since the 1970s. The positive energy, warmth and caring that emanates from each song has made your music unique and enduring. "The Innocent Age" in particular has always spoken to me. Christmas isn't Christmas until I hear "Same Old Lang Syne," spring must be celebrated with "Run for the Roses," and when winter finally comes to Nashville, I look at the ice skim on the lake behind my house and hear the rolling melody of "The Reach." So I send back one of your lyrics to you as I wish you courage, peace and a return to health: "Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light." ~ Bill Hudgins

Dear Dan, Your artistic talent and musical lyrics have been woven into my life's story. I have followed you since 1977. I send you prayers of healing and positive thoughts for the future...and I hope to see you on tour real soon! Godspeed ~ Sharon

Dear Dan, Thanks so much for all your wonderful music over the years. My wife had "Longer" played at our wedding in 1981, and I've been a fan ever since. I think we have all your albums now. In addition to our day jobs, she and I perform most Fridays at local establishments, she on the hammer dulcimer and me doing guitar and vocals. Your music is always part of the evening. We were planning to catch you in Jacksonville this fall to help celebrate our 23rd anniversary. Please take care, get well, and we'll look forward to seeing you when you feel up to another tour. ~ David Williams--Valdosta, Georgia.

I can't imagine a world without Dan Fogelberg. I am in my early 30's. I was just a kid when I first heard his music and his music has been a part of my life ever since. We need more Dan Fogelbergs in the music industry today to compensate for the lack of talent that the industry is suffering from. I pray for a speedy recovery so that my child, who is now hooked on his music, can look forward to new releases. Mr. Fogelberg is truly my inspiration. Respectfully ~ J. Stanek

Dan, I've been reading the well wishes of your many fans. They echo my own sentiments. Your brilliant music will forever be is a part of my past, my present and my future. I'm sure you know about the healing power of prayer. You can be assured of your recovery just in the sheer numbers of people who are praying for you, including this loyal fan. Bless you! ~ Marilyn O'Neil, Cheshire, CT

Dear Mr. Fogelberg, I am a 50 year old physician who has never been a part of anyone's "fan club", or taken the time to write to any performing artist...that being said, I find myself compelled to spend a moment of my time in the hopes that you might read this note. I recently learned of the affliction that you now suffer. It caused me reflection regarding the impact your work has had on my life and prompted my desire to share with you a little bit of your immortality. We travel through life weaving our way on our own journey, interacting with those we come in contact with. Our legacy is not just our personal memories nor the physical or financial achievements we can point to, but instead it is the effect our passage has had on those we encounter. Your gift has been an amazing talent to weave poetry into song in such a manner that lyrics become the canvas - painting a masterpiece that brings EMOTION to the listener....how many musicians can claim that.   We do not know each other, nonetheless your abilities leave me in awe, and I have sat with my daughter exposing her to your music so she too can experience the combination of both melody and message.  I don't want to overstate this, just tell you I am sorry for your current battle with the prostate cancer, thank you for the music that enriches our lives, and wish you only the best for the future.  Respectfully ~ Jeffrey P. Schonberg M.D.

Dear Dan, Soon, I will be listening to your Christmas CD again. I play it every year, but I'm currently still hooked on Full Circle. I continue to pray for you every day as I muddle through advanced nursing degree courses. You can probably see that I LOVE "Icarus Ascending" when I say that I am a survivor and I'm confident that you will be also. Peace be with you and yours this holiday season.I look forward to your recovery and next appearance, hopefully Charleston S.C. or Atlanta (Chastain Park). God bless you ~ Cindy Fabian

Hi Dan, My best wishes in this holiday season. Your words and music have been a part of me since my college days. Your songs have been there during my break ups and make ups (much more enjoyable!) and will remain with me for years to come. I send positive thoughts your way and look forward to seeing you in the Boston area when you are feeling better. ~ Ann M. Boston, MA

Dan, I'm a 57 yr. old man who has been a fan of yours from the "git go". After many moves chasing my career across the country I've finally settled down and retired. I set up my old stereo turntable today and rescued two albums from the moving boxes; The Innocent Age and All Things Must Pass by Geo. Harrison. You are one of the most profound musician/composers that I've come across in my time on this Earth. I thank you for the music and inspiration you've given me at various times of my life and wish you a full and complete recovery. Your family, friends and fans need you around in one piece.  If you never tour again so be it, God knows you've more than earned the break. Thanks again, God bless you and get well. ~ Wayne Ortiz

I was shocked at this news.  My wife and I  have been fans for 20 years, seen you in concert numerous times and found solace in your music during difficult periods in our life.  Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go out to you now.  ~ R. Webb. Smithsburg, MD.

Dear Dan, You are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. Our family has enjoyed your music through the years. Your songs continue to entertain us. A real talent! Just want you to know that I have traveled the same path (cancer). First time about 9 years ago and the second (different cancer) about 3 years ago. Am doing fine now. Hang in there! Better times are yet to come. ~ The Wagner Family

Dan, Though I said what I had to say in this forum during its first week, I just want to throw it out there that my prayers and hopes for you continue. What a gift you have, and are. How we ALL are praying and rooting for you! So glad you & Jean have each other. ~ Tim Ogard-Seattle

Your beautiful songs on The Innocent Age brought me through some very dark days in the early 1980s. All is well now and I can only wish the very, very best for you, Dan. My brother has just pulled through four years of prostate illness and therapies and is happy as a clam. With love ~ Susan Havey Blake, Newburyport, MA

Dan, When I heard your first music back in Manila that was then 1977 thru a friend of ours who introduced all your timeless collections of yours just to name a few, "Be On Your Way", "Nether Lands", "Song From Half Mountain" and many more . . . finally I came to watch your concert tours here in Bay Area, one Villa Montalvo, - Acoustic, and at the Chronicle Pavilion with your band. Just to let new know I just spoke to my best friend back in Manila and he's requesting for a selection of all Daniel Fogelberg Hits. I felt sad to hear the news about your health; our family will pray for you for speed recovery. God bless you with faith and perseverance. ~ MAS -San Bruno, CA

Dan, Every get well wish that proceeds mine has said all there is to say. I'm still compelled to send my sincerest gratitude for sharing your incredible talents with us. The world is a better place because of you. "Be still and know that he is God." - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ~ Denise

Dan - I pray for your full and expedient recovery from this ordeal. Your music has ever been a refuge for me, always peaceful and soothing in tumultuous times. Thank you for giving so much of your essence over the years. Thank you, also, for being such an inspiration for a little girl writing poetry in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. You're living a life to be envied and emulated, and this trial is an opportunity for each of us to tell you how much you and your gift means to us. God bless you in your restoration to glowing health, and Jean in her constant loving support. Goodspeed ~ Tamara J Engle, Markham, Virginia

We hope you are doing well, our love and prayers go to you and your family. I am listening to Nether Lands at this very moment (which you were so kind as to sign for us @ Jones Beach theater in the 90's), it, as does all your music, holds so many wonderful memories and thank you so much for them. We really want you to go better!!! Best wishes for Happy Holidays and most importantly a Healthy New Year and many more healthy years to come. We love you Dan.

Dear Dan, Here I am in Colorado, where it is white and one of the most beautiful winters ever. I am listening to your Christmas album. I love this album and the beauty it radiates--all from a kindred soul : ) I will keep you in my prayers as I believe God is with you. I love "What Child Is This". Best to your family ~ Veronica, Grand Junction, Colorado

Your music has meant so much to me over the years. I could go on with countless stories, but I'm sure you have heard the same such stories from many other fans. That is how universal your music is to those who Love, Laugh, Cry, and Love again. After countless years of trying, I have a 4 year old girl that I can't wait to share your music with and all the stories that relate to it. I have been praying for you daily since I read the news of your cancer. Stay strong! Much Love ~ Alisa- Nashville TN

Since it's the holiday season, I wanted to wish you and Jean a Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Blessed New Year. I keep praying, and sending good thoughts your way. I have been playing your Christmas CD and can't help but get a little teary eyed. I hope you get well soon. Thanks for all the great music you have given us. I know there will be more. (((Hugs))) ~ Cathy In NJ~

Dan - You've been a part of the music that's comforted my life for 20 years, and my heart is broken at your struggle. I pray that you'll conquer this challenge and continue to share your beautiful creativity for many years. Blessings ~ Rod Farrar

Hello Dan, As fans go, I probably am one of your longest standing. I saw you on a television show when I was in high school, (some time in those long ago years of the '70's). I think it was Friday Nights and you were introduced or brought out by Joe Walsh-- he obviously saw your beautiful talent and produced your first album. Then I was fortunate enough to see you in concert each time you came to my wonderful "'ol Pueblo", Tucson AZ. Anyway, I'm really sorry that you are battling cancer now. My mother had cancer and was a trooper through the whole affair. She was employed at the Cancer Center at University Medical Center here in Tucson and I do believe that they are making headway with the disease we all fear. Hopefully you are feeling well. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Good luck and best wishes! ~ Laurie Strauss

Not sure what to say. You have touched many with your gift of words. Look to your heavenly Father for guidance. HE knows all. The gift he gave you has touched so many. I pray and hope for healing... keep on, persevering. God Bless...

Dan, all of my best wishes to you as you battle your temporary deal. I cannot tell you how blessed I have been by your music. I am a musician myself, nowhere near as accomplished as you, but I "hack" your songs around campfires and family gatherings now and then. I saw your solo tour around '79 or so, I think it was at the Hoffeinz Pavilion in Houston, I think you were touring in support of the "Nether Lands" album. Have some cool pics of you playing a Guild 12-String, what an awesome concert, the way I prefer to see you, just you and your guitar or piano. Have seen you since, most recently at the "Cynthia Woods Pavilion," where you did do some of the old tunes, which was worth the price of the tix! All the best, my prayers are with you. God bless. ~ Richard W. Haines

Dear Dan, You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this tough time. You are one of our most favorite musicians of all time. We have been listening to your music since our high school days in the early eighties when our high school cross-country coach played your music, particularly "To the Morning." We have seen you in concert many times but especially loved Red Rocks in 2000. Please take care and know that God is holding you in the palm of His Hand. Sincerely ~ Dwayne and Whitney Ball

Dear Mr. Dan Fogelberg: I have loved your music every since I was a teenager. Now, I am almost 40 years old. I have 4 children, 3 girls, one boy, and my boy was named after you. His name is Daniel Joseph. My favorite song of yours is " The Reach." I would like to thank you for all the love and beautiful inspiration in my life you have given me. I know you will be just fine. Hang in there and I hope the best of wishes to you and your family. Thank you for you music, heart, and soul. You have made me a great person inside and out through your music. My wish was to always meet you one day. I hope it may come true. Once again I wish for the best for you and your family. Thank you. Sincerely ~ Diana Richardson, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Dan: Just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you this holiday season. Your music is magical! Love ~ Christine D.

Dan, I hope you are doing well, I was taken back by the news of your cancer a few months ago and just checked your web site for news. I am 46 and began listening to your music in 1978 while in college in Colorado, I have been a devoted fan ever since. I have all your albums and listen to them often. You and your music have always been a strong influence in my life. Your music always created a feeling of love, hope and happiness for me, through good times and bad. I had the pleasure of seeing you in concert 2 times, once in 1978 at Regis College in Denver and again in New York in 1989. Dan I wish you a speedy recovery and good health for you and your family this new year. Listen to your songs and they will bring you love, hope and happiness. ~ Todd

Dan, How can I thank you enough? As a musician myself, your craft has reached into my heart and guided me in a direction that I didn't even know existed. I was a teenager in the 70's. My main form of entertainment were artists with much more of a "hard rock" flavor. One day, my older sister gave me a Dan Fogelberg tape. To be honest, at first, I wasn't interested. Just a little too mellow for me at that point in my life. Then one day, I was working on a cassette deck in my 71 Chevy Vega station wagon that my aunt gave me and I needed a tape to play. I grabbed your tape and instantly, you had a captive audience. As I began to listen more intently, I became totally drawn in by what you do so well. All of the sudden the distortion pedal had a little less control over me and my acoustic guitar became a whole lot more important. From then on, I have been even more than just a fan. I am a student and I thank God for what you have taught me, simply from doing what you do. I'm praying that you get better soon. I'm now a pastor of a church as well as a worship minister. I want you to know that what I have learned from you, I use as best I can to glorify God and lead others to do the same. Thanks Dan and God bless!!! Get well soon!!! ~ Ron from Indiana

Dearest Dan - I have "The First Christmas Morning" playing in the background as I am baking cookies and wrapping presents to send to loved ones across the country. I am so thankful for everything in my life and a special aspect of my life is the part you have played. Your music has been an inspiration through good times and bad. Your beautiful melodies and lyrics create a peaceful, calm place for me to escape. My children have grown up with your music and I am proud to say my 19 year old is a music major in college ... my 15 yr old asked for tickets to your concert for his 13th birthday and was thrilled to see you from the front row. His comment was "mommy he really is real." That was one of those priceless moments I will carry in my heart forever. Please know you are in my prayers each and every day. I will continue to think good thoughts and wish for your full and speedy recovery. You are well loved. ~ Mary Jardine Browns Mills, New Jersey

Dan, you are the man! We have so loved your music over the years. And your wonderful performances, especially in Santa Fe. What an enhanced thrill it will be to see you perform again after you get well. Best wishes always ~ Ron and Cindy

So much more music to compose. Many more poems to write and scenes to paint. Keep the faith, Dan and loved ones. You have given to us for many years. It is our turn to give to you through our prayers. God give you and yours the strength to be victorious. ~ Margaret ~ Youngstown, Oh.

Dan – I have been a fan as long as I can remember, being introduced to your music by my older brother when I was a young teen. He passed away 3 years ago very unexpectedly, so now I listen to your albums for him as well as for me. I am continually touched by your words and music and cherish every album you have made. I send many prayers and good wishes to you for healing and recovery. I look forward to hearing of your next concert tour after your recovery. ~ TLV – Grand Rapids MI

Dear Dan, I have loved your music for so many years. It was your music that helped me through the greatest heartache of my life. I realize that your heart and soul were behind every song you wrote, and so I feel that I have had the privilege of knowing you personally through your music. At this time in your life, please know that you are in my prayers and I send positive thoughts your way. May God's Healing Love and Light penetrate your entire being and help you get through this completely. With loving wishes for your speedy recovery ~ Mary from Chicago.

My most heartfelt prayers go to the one and only Dan Fogelberg. my personal official "broken heart" album man, My only friend when things went bleak in the relationship dept. I have really needed to see you again here lately and was shocked to see this news. I hope your pain and tears are brief...maybe new insights will come from this journey. And as Lance says...live strong. You are now and have always been in my heart. ~ Karen Hennigar Austin, TX

Dan, From a fellow songwriter who greatly appreciates your level of craft, I wish you the best. I'm praying for your speedy recovery, and that your time in the interim is filled with love and peace. Con Fides ~ George Reiswig, Song of the River Music

With well wishes for the holiday season. May the new year find your health restored. To one of the finest musicians and performers. Happy Holidays and God Bless.

Whenever I hear one of your songs, a flood of memories from my teen years fill my head. I student taught in Peoria Heights in the late 70's and listened to your albums over and over. Your music is a part of me. May you find health and happiness in the coming year. ~ Catherine

Dan, From a fellow “Illinois Boy” currently helping my own brother through a very similar mess, I just want to say we all love you and have since the very start. Hang in there and knock it out! ~ SP, Southwest IL

Dear Dan, When I first heard your music, I was a young teen and loved you ever since! Saw you in concert in Chicago back in the early eighties, and even though I was in row 8, I thought I was in heaven. I am now a middle aged married woman with 5 kids and I make sure every child grows up hearing your music, because I know it will touch their hearts, as it did and still does mine. I am really sad to learn about your illness. Our family will pray for you and Jean every day! God Bless You Both. ~ Rachel

Dan, I am wishing you the strength and faith to fight this disease. This is a hard battle, but with all the prayers that are being offered for you, Iknow that you will make a full and speedy recovery. You will now join the millions of people who have survived cancer--I, too, am one of them. I look forward to more spectacular songs from you. ~ Rosemary from Waltham, MA

God bless you and yours. ~ Jane

Dan, I am here at work today listening to you sing "Same Old Lang Syne." It is being played on 92.9 here in Colorado Springs. The DJ also ran down some information on how you got started in the business and the challenges you are going through these days. I am writing to wish you the best of luck during this Holiday Season. I admire your talent and enjoy hearing your voice over the radio. I have done some singing myself and have a tenor range but not as outstanding and versatile as yours. You contribute much to the music industry. I hope you beat your current affliction and come back strong so we can see you in concert. Hang in there Dan and we will keep you in our prayers daily. May The Force Be With You and Bless You. ~ Walter

Merry Christmas to you and your family. I posted some of my feelings a few months back, so I won't repeat myself. Just suffice to say, your music still touches my soul. May God bless you during this holiday season as we worship Him for His great love towards us. Let us stay focused on the gift of the Christ child to show us what love is all about. I pray for your healing and return to sharing your heart with the world. ~ Steve - Kansas City, MO

Hello Dan, I too have had prostate cancer. Six years ago this April it was removed. At this time there is no reoccurence of the cancer and everything works .I just want you to know I feel your pain and fear. I can only hope that you are as lucky as I was. I love your music and hope to here new music from you soon. I wish I could say to you and make you feel the way I did when you sang, it was always so moving. My cancer was also advanced however the Dr.got it all. Good luck to you ~ Bob Davis

Dear Dan, I heard about your condition and will mix my faith and prayers with everyone else's to believe that you will be healed. I have truly enjoyed your music ever since 1975 and believe that you will come through this to inspire others just as your music has inspired us! ~ Warren

Dan, I heard on the radio about your illness. When my husband and I first met we felt we had known each other before! And when we got married 23 years ago, your song "Longer" was played before I walked down the aisle. Not very long ago my husband had a different type of cancer. One that if it had happened to him 30 years ago (when I started listening to your music) the doctors would have had to remove his leg. He recovered and is doing well and has adjusted to a few changes like giving up riding a motorcycle again (if he broke his leg it would probably never heal). Instead he is into 4-wheelers, bow hunting, and TaeKwonDo. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. Bless you for having blessed the lives of all your fans out there! Thank you ~ Lynn (St. Louis)

I have been a fan of yours for over 30 years. I have had the pleasure of hearing you in person back in 1992, in Maryland..your music has been an inspiration and has brought much joy to my wife and I. We hope and pray that you beat the Big C and you continue to provide this world with your beautiful music and lyrics. Your recent album "Full Circle" blows us away! Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your Family! ~ Fred and Melissa Hinze, Glen Alpine NC

Dear Dan: I am listening to Souvenirs right now, as I often do when I get ready for work. I first heard it when I was 13 and have loved it ever since. My best friend and I grew up listening to you back in the wonderful early 70s. I just now read of your diagnosis. Three years ago at age 40, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am hopeful but I always enjoy each moment of life. Life is very sweet, even with a cancer diagnosis. I wish you and your family all the best. I look forward to being at one of your concerts someday. ~ Cindy

Dear Dan, Just wanted to you to know that not a day has gone by since August that I haven't sent a prayer, a wish and a good vibe out into the universe for you. I've got "The First Chrismas Morning" playing. 'Tis the season for miracles and if all of us who've sent our words to this site and our prayers much higher have a say, you're in good keeping! Wishing you a healthy and happy New Year. You are missed! Best ~ Doris Tomaselli

Others have beaten this and so can you. I have a father-in-law and an uncle who were diagnosed with prostate cancer and they have lived on. Just try to go about your life as you have before and let this time heighten your sense of awareness. You have have always written from the heart and I hope you continue on. ~ Michael

I have spent countless hours listening to your music. It has always been an inspiration for me as I reflect on the poetic verse of what you are saying. And it has inspired me when I have searched for simple words to convey my own emotions of hope, and love, and pain, and joy. In my Inupiaq language, we say "Quyana", and I do thank you from depths of my poetic heart for your magic and your gift to touch other's through simple words. We all must face so many crossroads in our lives, and I wish peace during this journey. I will continue to listen to your words. And when you're up for it, Mr. Fogelberg, Fairbanks would be a fine place for a concert. You will fall in love with the beauty of Alaska and all she has to offer you..and all of us. ~ Billie

Happy Holidays Dan ~ This past Thanksgiving I thanked God for your music ( I own every recording of yours I could find), and this Christmas I've purchased multiple copies to give to my friends and relations. ~ Patrick Guinee ( U of I alum) Oak Lawn, IL

Dan, I started listening to your music in the mid eighties. Your lyrics and the depth of your messages in song have enlightened me since first I heard them. Your music has brought me tears of joy and also sweet memories of days gone by. When my mother was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, I found great comfort in your cd's in the hospital ICU. I want to extend my prayers from our family to yours during your recovery. May all of the people around the world you have touched, wrap a warm blanket of love and hope around you. Thankful and Grateful for your music. God Bless ~ Jeanette Miller

Words cannot begin to express the joy of your music, nor hoping for your quick and speedy recovery, Get well soon ~ John Love

Hi Dan!! I´ve been reading the beautiful messages you are getting from the fans you have touched over the years. Every day I read the messages for you and with such positive vibes coming from us, the fans, you will get better soon, and as one wrote a few weeks ago, I believe this episode of your life will create your best work.I´m following one from Doug in Toowoomba, Australia in so far as I hadn't a clue what to write but at the same time feeling compelled to write something, even though it´s impossible to express one's feelings to a poet as that's what you are.Dan, get better soon and I also take this opportunity to wish you, your family and all the people who are with you a fantastic Christmas and 2005 - get well soon buddy! All the best from ~ Johnny Good in Seville, Spain

Dan and Jean, Best wishes and our prayers are with you. "You find out who your friends are; When you're feeling all alone. They're always there, with love to share; or to have a hand to hold. Always." Just part of a song I am working on for you Dan. Next time you are in Nashville it will be finished as my gift for your recovery. Keep the faith. ~ Rob Mitchell, Murfreesboro, Tennessee

To Mr. Dan Fogelberg, Your music will forever be a part of me. "Same Old Lang Syne" will forever give me a feeling that takes me back to a difference place in time. Best wishes to you and may you get well soon. One of my great regrets is never to have seen you in concert. I am still hoping. Much love and respect ~ Roshelle White

Dan, Hope this message finds you and yours in good spirits, as your spirit has lifted many of us through the years. Will never forget the great times in years past listening to you, beginning with your first album with its raw guitar and vocals. Thanks for being you, we are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. ~ Tim, Mpls

Dear Dan, May the Gods envelope you and your family with love, joy and healing during these holidays of 2004. Though most don't truly know you, you have always given life to your thoughts, through your songs, so we could arrange them into our lives. In which case...most feel they do know you. Please keep the strings vibrating on the guitar, piano and vocal cords! With all our prayers to health ~ Ken and Janet in Michigan

I have been a fan of your music for many years. Many of the songs you have written are classics. I was very sorry to read about your cancer diagnosis. I hope you have a speedy recovery, and can get back on tour soon. I will say a prayer for you and your family. Sincerely ~ Susan

Dear Dan, I just found out about your diagnosis via the internet. My first thought was, life without your music and poetry is unthinkable! Your work has touched me in more ways than you could ever know. Nether Lands in particular, has been a force with me through many years of life changes. It moves me whenever I hear it. I'm a poet as well, so I really appreciate not only the melodies but also the words you choose. Regarding your journey with cancer, it is simply that. I am but one more soul who sends you love and light on that journey. Part of my spiritual belief is that Spirit is omnipresent. That means that God or Spirit is also in the cancer cells. So anything is possible including complete return to health and wholeness. I keep a stanza from "Nexus" up on my bulletin board. I am a social work intern counseling people in all walks of life with all sorts of "stuff" to deal with. This quote has helped me so much and it continues to give others hope. So to you, here this echo of your own sweet words...

Wealthy the spirit that knows its own flight,

Stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright,

Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light.

God bless! ~ Wanda Springer

Dan, I have loved your music from the beginning days and looked forward to every new song written from your heart. I have introduced many to your music and continue to be thrilled every time I hear a new "Dan" song. I am now praying for your speedy and complete recovery from this illness. I wish you and your family strength. May the Great Physician, the Lord, heal you and make you stronger each passing day. In Jesus Name I lift you up for the kind of strength only He can provide. God Bless you.~ Paul, Brandon, Mississippi

God bless and be with you and your family. Your music from '80 and '81 brings back so many memories. Especially "Same Old Lang Syne". I pray for your speedy recovery. ~ Philip Baldwin, Charleston, WV

Don't know where to start so I guess I'll just say that I've loved your music since my days in college in the mid-70s. I've introduced your songs to my kids and they love them too. We (my daughters and I) were lucky enough to attend one of your concerts several years ago - and thoroughly enjoyed it. Your song "Magic Every Moment" has become my mantra and an idea I try to share with others. In fact, I taught religious ed classes at church (8th grade students) and I used that song to help teach them about the wonders that surround us everyday if we just take the time to notice. Your music is so much more than just notes and words. It is spirit and life and humanity. Most of us hope that we can have some sort of impact - leave the world a better place than the one we stepped into. You are blessed to be able to achieve that goal and those of us who have enjoyed your blessing all these years thank you for it! I can honestly say that your songs have helped to inspire me to look at the world with different eyes, to always look for the magic in every moment and to understand that we are all a part of something much bigger than ourselves. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. You have touched so many lives. May all of our good wishes touch yours. ~ Aimee

Dan, you have been a great part of my life since the early 70's when I first heard "Part of the Plan". I was therefore very sorry to hear you had prostate cancer. My brother-in-law is undergoing treatment for the same thing now, so I have some idea of what you're going through. Please know that my heart-felt prayers are going out to you. God Bless You. ~ Jeff Wells, Pittsburg, KS

Dan, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you fight this great battle! Your music has blessed and given joy to many people throughout your music career, especially myself. Your Christmas Album, The First Christmas Morning, has become one of my favorites for this time of year. And as it brings me great enjoyment this holiday season, I thank you for sharing your great talent with the world and I pray you will have strength and faith to get through this trying time. God Bless ~ Carol, Columbus, Ohio

Whether in illness or health, know that positive thoughts and gratitude are always being sent your way! ~ Susan B, East Grand Rapids, MI

Dear Dan: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God grant you full healing, strength and faith to get through this most difficult time. I wanted to say thank you for your beautiful music. You truly are a very gifted artist and the world is blessed to have your music be a part of it. Your music comes directly from your heart and soul and it is a beautiful thing to hear! May God Bless you and your family. ~ Angie W, Iowa City, IA

Given all the happiness you have brought to so many of us, I hope you are repaid with good health in the New Year. ~ Colleen

Dan: A get well message from one of many that appreciates skillfully crafted music, full of depth and feeling, and far beyond the stuff out there that's superficially welded together and a nod of respect for an artist who, more than anyone else, made be aware of the difference. Get well Dan...."too long the strings have been silent". ~ R. Tutt, Glasgow, KY

Dan: If it were not for you I would not have had the courage to pursue my own musical journey, Many nights I would listen to your music and it has inspired and moved me forward in my own direction. Please know I wish you the best and thank you for being my "Leader of the Band" ~ Carl Tosten

At this holiday season we just want to say thank you for all the joy you and your music have brought to our family. We miss you and traveling around to your concerts but want only your good health for you. In the meantime, we have your music for enjoyment. Thanks for being who you are! ~ The Leasure Family

As I sit here and listen to my favorite song ( "Forefathers" from the Tales and Travels CD) I am praying for your speedy recovery. My future wife introduced me to your music in 1977. We would listen to her favorite song ("To the Morning") over and over. We have been listening to your music ever since. We have enjoyed many concerts, but what was the best for us was being able to sit in the very front center seats of your last outdoor concert at Echo Basin, Colorado celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. I had surprised her with this event, not letting on what we were doing. We stayed there for the week enjoying the outdoors, and went horseback riding with Tanya Tucker a couple of days after your concert. Tanya said she wished she could have enjoyed your concert also but she just flew back in from a show in Lake Tahoe. We are saddened at your illness, but look forward to seeing you play again for your many fans. My God bless you and your family . Get well soon. ~ Bret and Brenda Nielsen, Layton, Utah

Dan: It's no small thing you have done with your gift. Your music and poetry have touched my soul. Your songs got me through some very tough times. I believe you have strong magic that reaches the hearts of many....Thank you for sharing your talent and gift. ~ Mary Eiffe

Dan, I hope you have a complete recovery. I have enjoyed your beautiful music for over 25 years. It has sustained me through good and bad times. I look forward to seeing you in concert soon. ~ Sally Coble, York, PA

Dan, I have never posted to anything before, but had to thank you and share a story. In "times like these", that have stolen all too many of our children's "innocent age"(s), it seems that your music is still helping people understand and evaluate their lives. My daughter, who is thirteen years old, has asked me for CDs of all your works for Christmas. She told me that your voice/songs were like old friends, because she had heard them since she was a baby. I had sung her your songs such as "Believe In Me", "The Innocent Age" and "Gambler" since she was born. Those CDs certainly will be in her stocking. My best wishes...to you, your family and friends for a great and healthy New Year. I can't say that I understand what you are going through, but know that you have so many people praying and pulling for you because of how you touched and effected their been one of my very favorite singer/songwriters for a long time. I am praying that you come through this illness soon. Just wanted you to know how much you mean to so many people. May God Bless You! ~ Michael

My prayers and thoughts are with you. I think you are one of the greatest musicians and songwriters of ALL time. Please just wait a little longer for heaven... the earth is not finished with you. ~ Sallie C

Dear Dan: I have known you since the early 70's. I fell in love with your voice and music then. In the late 80's I saw you in Nashville, TN. I prayed and cried for you through the whole concert. I bought your Christmas album in 2003 and have played it all year long. I just heard tonight from some friends of mine that you had this prostate cancer. I hadn't heard the news. Please know that I will continue to pray for complete healing. God's will be done on this earth as is it is heaven. Much love to you. ~ Betsy Blackstock, Knoxville, TN

I have loved and listened to your music since I was in high school, over 30 years ago. I got to see you perform in Biloxi, MS, last year and it was a true thrill. I left there feeling like a teenager again. You are and will always be one of my very favorite performers and song writers. God bless you and may he grant you a complete and speedy recovery. ~ L. Ainsworth, Brandon, MS

Dear Dan,  I have loved you and your music for 30 years and have marveled at how beautifully you weave words with melodies. You are the Gibran of music to me, I play your music regularly to this day. My 3 beautiful children, now all in their 20's, always think of me when they hear one of your songs on the radio, because I played you sooooo much during their youth, and they love you too!  Many thanks Dan for the awesome gift you have brought to the world. Many healing blessings to you sothat we can hear you loud and clear yet again. My favorites from you are "Lonely in Love", "Sweet Magnolia" and "Sand and the Foam".   Thank you Dan ~ Dr. Christopher Allen, D.C.

Dear Dan and Jean -What more can I say that hasn't already been said in these thoughts from all your fans and friends? I don't believe anything has been left out. All I can say is that I've loved you since 1979 when I was first introduced to your music as a Christmas gift! What a gift. I still listen to it.....25 Christmases later. You are one in a million and God certainly blessed you with the voice of an angel. It soothes when we hurt; it shares a shoulder when we cry; it brings back so many happy memories when we feel like we are getting old; it uplifts us when we are down; it brings a smile each time! You are truly a survivor.....your music proves that in itself. You will be back stronger than ever. I have no doubt. Just keep your faith and a positive attitude and don't give in to the illness. "This too shall pass". Thanks for the joy, peace and happiness that you have brought to everyone that has ever heard your music. I have always wanted to see you in concert, but haven't had the chance. I have no doubt that the chance will come and you will be back singing like no other. May you know how much you are loved and how many are praying for you and your family. We love you always! ~ B. Cheek, Huntsville, AL

Our highest Prayers are for you during this progress of healing. May God always shine on you. ~ Mike Pomerleau

I can't begin to tell you how your music influenced my life. My prayer is that God will bless you and that you will be back making your music. Thank you and God Bless You and Yours! Merry Christmas

Dan, On the eve of my first cd release, I feel compelled to send a message to you tonight. As I reflect on the past twenty years of being a semi-successful singer/songwriter, I realize how much your influence has blossomed in my writing. To emulate you would be futile, to pay tribute to your mentors and heroes as you have have done with "The Buffalo Springfield", and as I do you, is like passing on the torch. The release of my first disc (entitled Coming Home) is exciting and bittersweet at the same time, as I am saddened by your illness. You have been both an inspiration as well as a teacher to me. I learned the art of recording by listening to how you layered your acoustic guitars, as well as your vocals. I always dreamed of becoming as proficient a musician as you are, but I don't think it possible. I dedicated this disc to you and to the creative spirit that you have instilled in me through your music. During the holiday season, may you and your family find the peace of mind that this holiday brings. Be safe, be well, my friend. Thank you for sharing your music with the world, you have made it a better place........Godspeed! ~ Jim Long, Whispering Pines Studios, Manasquan, N.J.

Dan, I was amazed at how saddened I was to hear of your illness. Then it dawned on me how much your creations have impacted my life. Better than any photo album, listening to your songs bring back not only the memories of certain points of my life, but also the deep emotions. As I get older, I treasure those emotions even more. I can't begin the thank you for sharing your talents with myself and others. My wife and I pray that God's grace works within you and your family's lives to bring healing. ~ Mark and Jennifer Byrd, Downingtown, PA

I hope and pray that healing continues for you. Have a Merry Christmas. We are looking forward to new material. Be well. ~ Martin Gibson

I am so very sorry to hear of your illness and my prayers shall certainly include you and your family. Your music and lyrics seem to have paralled my own adult life and have been loving your music since 1978. I have always looked forward to the day I could attend one of your concerts and will, God willing, be able to some day. I am a Male RN and have worked in many specialties during my career, including Oncology. Right now I am working in the ER here on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Northwest Montana. I'm sure you are receiving the best of care and I know that there are a lot of people praying for you and your recovery. Thank you for all that you give. There are few noble men left these days it seems, and you certainly are one of those. My best wishes, and God Bless you and your family.~ Russell Feightner RN, Ronan, Montana

I hope we'll hear you singing your beautiful tunes very soon. Merry Xmas from Barcelona (Sp).~ Javier

Leaving my Botany class behind, my roommates and I drove down from Colorado State to see you at Red Rocks.  As luck would have it, we ended up front row center.  I remember saying I could die happy. The sound check came on and out you walked wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap.  You began jamming.  No one noticed.  I said "HEY THAT'S DAN RIGHT THERE!!!"  Everyone around me thought I was insane. No one else was paying attention or listening, except me.  You were smiling the whole time. (apparently enjoying your secret) I kept on"THAT'S DAN RIGHT THERE!!!", afraid of your secret being revealed, you looked me straight in the eye, took off the hat, pulled up the glasses and gave me a wink, you then put your finger vertically to your mouth to shut me up.  I immediately shut up and enjoyed the best Dan Fogelberg concert ever, it was obvious you were having a blast.  The session ended and you turned to me and mouthed thank you.  No Dan, THANK YOU.  I have seen you in concert many times before and many times after that day.  But that was the best concert ever.  I send my love and my thanks....Get well FAST. ~ Cynde

Dan, We have loved your music for years. Sending you our love and positive energy for a complete recovery. Peace, Love and Merry Christmas. ~ Nyla Gardner and Buddy Linscott Eliot Maine

Dan, I was very saddened to hear of your illness but confident that you will recover. It's amazing what can be done to treat cancer these days. My father is a living example, having survived both prostate and pancreatic cancer. He's 72 years old and doing very well, as I'm sure you will. Keep up the good fight. Your songwriting, playing and singing have influenced me more than any other musician. I have known of your music since the Phoenix days. I was still in grade school, but I felt a connection even back then. I developed my love for playing acoustic music largely because of you and it's still my second love (the ocean being the first). That is why "The Reach" is my favorite of your songs. You paint a picture in lyric and song that only an ocean lover can truly grasp. I try to play and sing that song often, but can never get through it because it usually makes me cry. You would be flattered to know that while visiting San Francisco several years ago on business, I was befriended by an extremely talented street musician who knew many, many of your songs. We played and harmonized to your songs all night, even when nobody was listening. It was a very memorable experience. I wish you the best in your fight and hope to see you perform in Pittsburgh, PA again. ~ Greg, Pittsburgh, PA

Hi Dan, I just wanted to wish you well. You've brought me so much happiness with your music. I'm a retired football player and your music helped me through 27 knee surgeries and recently a knee replacement. You also taught me to not be afraid to feel alot of emotions, not just my tougher side. Your music brought my wife of 20 years together. Friends hooked us up to attend a concert of yours for our first date. I send you my love and best wishes for a recovery, very soon. ~ Jim

Dear Dan, I just wanted to say Merry Christmas and you and Jean are in my thoughts and prayers. I finally got the courage to play your beautiful Christmas Cd the other night. To me, it is the some of the best work you have ever done. It shows your true artistic ability and the gift you have been blessed with. When most singers come out with a Christmas CD, it is usually the same old Christmas songs that they sing. Not you, yours is the most different and creative one I have ever heard. Thank you for your gift, as I will cherish this CD every Christmas. Have a blessed holiday season. ~ Jeanette

I do certainly hope that you will get better. I have your greatest hits CD of 1982 and I love that CD of yours. ~ Chris

Dear Dan & Family, My husband introduced me to your music when we first met (20 years ago) and I have loved it ever since. I have also had the pleasure of seeing you in concert. And, when I listen to a tape in my car - it is most often your music that I listen to. You have a special gift. From your music I can see you have a beautiful heart and spirit. Thank you for the beautiful sounds and listening pleasures you have provided me. I wish you a speedy recovery and the return of good health and happiness always! I look forward to having the special opportunity to see you on stage again a nd lots of new music in the future. Best wishes ~ Jacolyn Firestone, Boston

Dan, your music has been a source of great inspiration, reflection, and joy to me since I first heard it in the mid-1970s. It remains all of that. With trust that the good Lord will be your guiding light through this illness and that through prayer and the good wishes of all, He will heal you completely. I know that the love of your family, friends and fans is and will be a great source of strength for you, much as your love and wisdom has been a great source of strength and inspiration for all of us. God speed in your recovery. Wishing you only good things during the Christmas season, in 2005, and always. Looking forward to hearing much more of your music! Throughout your life, your life has been your music and vice-versa. I, like everyone else, await your next album and know that your recent experiences and awarenesses will be reflected in your future music. Having been an avid fan for over 30 years, I feel that God will want you to continue your work here on Earth with us and that you will go on to inspire others as you have always done. ~ Jodi, Nashville, Tennessee

Dan, I was telling my daughter about your music. She is 19 yrs old and I was saddened to see about your illness while on the web site. May God bless you and give the strength to overpower this. You are in my prayers. ~ Donna

Greetings from Alexandria, LA. I hope all is well with you since your battle with prostate cancer. Since the age of sixteen ( which has been quite some time ago) I have been wanting to see you in concert. I have been a very blessed person, not requiring many "things", but want badly to see one of your concerts. I have decided to ask/beg my husband, who is not much of a concert goer, to give me tickets to one of your concerts as a gift for Christmas, which is fast approaching and probably too late; Anniversary, which is in March and/or my birthday in May. Do you plan on going on tour in 2005? If so, hopefully you will be going to Baton Rouge or New Orleans and/or someplace I can convience him to go. He is not much of a traveler, so let's hope for the best! Again, sorry to hear about your problems, as we have had a few of our own! Best wishes ~ Linda Lemoine-Ueckert

Dear Dan, My young family grew up through the 70s listening to your music. We followed your successes and applauded them because they were so richly deserved. (Never made it to a concert, unfortunately.) I am now 61 years old. My (grown) daughters still listen to your songs, hopefully with some perspective they lacked when Mom and Dad played the tapes in the car on trips while they giggled in the back seat. I have recently revisited some of my favorites, and I am deeply moved by how much they mean to me now. If my daughters have grown up, I guess I have grown wise. NOW I know what you were talking about! Two songs in particular could have been written about very private parts of my life--and in a very real sense, they were, because you write about what William Faulkner called "verities of the heart." The songs are " Same Auld Lang Syne" and "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler." It's so very rare for a songwriter to go beyond teenage angst and hit a sweet spot like that. You have a special gift, and you ARE a special gift to all of us who have had similar experiences but couldn't put them into words, let alone words and music. Thank you. ~ Richard Mansfield, Columbus, Ohio

Dan: Your music has been inspriring me for the last 30 years. I never get tired of listening to you. I visualize a happy and healthy Dan! ~ Ed Winslow, Oregon

Dan, I want to extend my best wishes to you and your family. I truly hope the "stories of your demise" are greatly exaggerated. I've been a huge fan for at least twenty-five of my thirty-seven years on this earth. I'm so grateful you came to our small town nearly twelve years ago to perform your magic. You truly are an "artist." Your musicianship, voice and writing are as good as it gets. Thanks so much for your "stories of the road" and with God's blessing, for those stories you've yet to tell. Stay positive and strong ~ Eric, Bloomsburg, PA

"Yellows and grays paint the sad sky today..." Still one of my favorite Fogelberg lines. I was upset to hear of your diagnosis, but am confident that you will pull through this. I also want to say that when my father passed away a couple of years ago, I couldn't help but draw some strength from "Leader of the Band." My father was a very successful band director for many years, fought in WWII and impacted hundreds of lives in his community in a positive way. I think your song was a testament to all band directors from the "old school" who have had a lasting impact on their students and, in our cases, their families. Fight the good fight, Dan. ~  Tom G, Edgewood KY

To Dan (or as we like to call you, Fogey) and family, We are praying that all goes well with you and your health. You have been an inspiration to me and my husband for many, many years and we have followed you throughout your career. We attend all the concerts we can when you are in our area and have been fans of yours for more years than I care to mention. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we know you will get through this and create more wonderful music for the world to hear. Until that time, you take good care of yourself, enjoy your hiatus and enjoy every moment you have with your loved ones. Your fans will be there waiting for you when you're ready to come back. All the best ~ Lori

Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers. I have been a fan of yours practically all of my life. Best wishes always. ~ Thomas and Donna Wiggers

Dan, Your songs are so incredibly powerful and meaningful. Thank you for creating music that always stops me in my tracks. I look forward to many more years of your amazing writing. Get well soon. RB--St. Louis, Missouri

Dear Dan, I would like to extend my heartfelt concern for your health and well being. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your lyrics and music have been a source of inspiration througout the course of my life. I know it will continue to be. May God's grace continue to be with you always. Sincerely ~ Loraine Myers, Reading, Pa.

Dear Dan: I'm a big fan and a cancer survivor. I had colon cancer thirteen years ago and survived the treatment and have had many full years since. Iknow you can have the same outcome. Positive Mental Attitude!!! That's one of the keys. Don't worry if people don't know what to say to you, because the disease still scares people. It is curable! Hang in there. I'm looking forward to more tremendous music from you, and can't wait to play it on the air. I'm in radio, and have had the priviledge of playing many of your songs through the years and have enjoyed seeing your live shows. God Bless you and your family. Happy Holidays. ~ Lyle

Dan, Your music has always meant so much to me. I hope that you find your way through this disease and come out the other side healthy and make music for many more years to come. ~ Theresa

Dan, I just wanted to send my very best wishes to you and your family. You have always been my mentor and inspiration for me as a musician. Through your music so many of us can identify the importance in preserving our Native American cultures and wildlife. Thank you for your songs as they have always lifted my spirits and filled my heart with joy. In fact, I told my wife that my only request when I pass on is to have "Nether Lands" played at my service. This as so many of your songs have affected me deeply. A close friend of mine that is also a musician (Steve Price-Drummer for Pablo Cruise) has battled cancer of the larynx and now is in total remission. He is happy and very positive about life and was recently married. He now has to speak with assistance of a tube placed in his throat. His attitude is wonderful and he is playing his drums better than ever. I was so happy to get Steve and the other original members of the band together for a private concert here in Northern California the day before his wedding. The magic is still there and I am so glad to announce that they will now be sharing the magic of their music with all of us again. The love and passion for each other and their music is a great inspiration for me as well. I left the music business in the early 80's and swore I would not ever get back into it again. Never say never! I started a new production company with a friend of mine. Both of our lives have been changed for ever having someone we love diagnosed with cancer. My business partner's brother has leukemia and I lost my best friend from this same horrible disease. We are now producing shows and will be doing a number of benefit concerts with Pablo Cruise and other artists. "Cruise For The Cure" May God Bless You. See you on the stage soon! ~ Steve Hart, Rancho Murieta, California

Hi Dan, I just wanted to let you know your music has made me strong in times where I felt weak. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. So many of us feel you sang what was in our hearts like no other. I know you are going to fight this illness and come out even stronger and write your best song for us. Please know we are all thinking positive thoughts and praying for you. Go slow below the surface and easy through the waves my friend. ~ Sandy in Phoenix

I can't tell you how much your music has meant to me over the span of my life. For everyone that loves music there are usually two or three bands or artists that really hold a special place. For me, you are one of those artists. My prayer is for total recovery in all aspects of your life.~ Rob Lofland, Lindale, Texas

You are an icon...a great musician and artist. You will live through your music for generations to come! I've been listening to you since the 70's! You have the most melodic voice of anyone I know! My prayers are with you and your family for your full recovery! God Bless you now and always. Best Regards ~ D.Conner, Kingsport, TN

My best wishes and prayers for your continued recovery. I continue to listen to and attempt to play your music, as I have basically grown up with a love of your music. God speed your recovery. ~ Ron, Bristol TN

Really sorry to hear about Dan's illness. I hope he recovers soon. His music has played a huge part in my life as illustrated with the beautifully lyriced "Along the Road." All the best for 2005. ~ Eric

Dear DF, I am a Chinese from Hong Kong. I have been listening to your beautiful and sentimental songs since the 80's. I am really upset to learn that you are sick. I said a prayer for you today and hope you will get well soon!!! ~ Camela Chong M.L.

Hello Dan -I don't believe in long letters about how great you are as a performer or as a song writer so I will keep it short, You are a Great Performer and a Great Song writer -wow. Now that we got that over with, Dan be well. My thoughts and my prayers are with you. You can beat this and you will. From a freind that has been with you since 1972. ~ Joe

You have been a source of love and inspiration to so many. Thank you for your beautiful music and the honesty your songs portray. You are a joy for us all. May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hand. ~ Regina Cosenza

Dear Dan, You have been one of my favorite performers for many years. I started listening to you in college...20 years ago or more to be exact. Your wonderful lyrics and beautiful melodies have brought joy and comfort to me throughout the years. The talent that you have has been God given and I am blessed that you have shared it with us your fans thus far. I am so sorry to hear the news that you are sick. Please know that my prayers are with you for a full recovery. God bless you and your family this Christmas season. ~ Jan Jones

Hi Dan, I've lived and loved your music for my entire adault life. You are a master songwriter with few contemporaries. I wish you well and pray for your eventual full recovery. You are the leader of the band. My children will pass your music to thier children. And so on... ~ The Blaster

Dan, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Your concerts at Westbury Music Fair have been one of the highlights of my life. I took my friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer to one of your concerts there and it was the best present I could have given her. Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping to see you at Westbury soon. Best Wishes ~ Maryanne from Long Island

Dan has been a big influence on my music over the years. Heartfelt warm vibes sent in his direction. Get well and continue to make music. Good luck and best wishes from North Carolina. Namaste ~ Doug Prescott

I've gotten to see Dan a couple of times at Chastain (Atlanta). What joy to see someone whose music has meant so much to me over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with him. May this gifted musician keep on playing. ~ JB

To Dan and his family, I was stunned by your unfortunate news while buying your new album "Full Circle". I have been with you all the way, my friend, from being a senior in high school buying "Home Free" in 1972. Your music is a major part of the soundtrack of my life and a talent like yours that I have cherished for 32 years comes but a few times in a lifetime. As a young man I was frustrated that you never came to Florida to play, until February 6, 1982 that is, when "Fools Gold", Kenny, Billy, Joe, Mike, Russ and the gang played Lakeland Civic Center - 20,000 strong. My wife Denise and I have seen you play many times, with many bands in many settings, always so damned impressed. Please come through this Dan. I would give anything just to hear you play "The Last Nail" one more time. As I stand on my deck overlooking The Great Smoky Mountain National Park I'm saying to you Dan, you will beat this, I will see you sing that song one more time, and may God bless your family and friends. Your friend and fan ~ John Bougae

Hi from Richmond,VA. Growing up in the late 60's and 70's listening to your music and looking at your beautiful (sorry I should say handsome) face was one of the highlights of those times. They bring back such sweet memories of people, places and spaces in time. I had somehow lost touch of your music and career but recently started searching the web for info on you. Anyhow this is just to say you are in my prayers and thoughts as you struggle in your battle. The Lord has truly blessed you and us with your music and I know that one day at a time you can make it. I celebrated 23 yrs. Of sobriety a week or so ago and I know that God is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves and whatever higher power you believe I hope that it will give you comfort and peace. Take care of yourself and live well ~ Suzanne

Dan, tonight I visited your website and read the news... I'm numb! I just told Sharon (my wife of 31 years) and we wanted you to know what you have meant to us, our friends and to the world. We have crossed paths so many times, I'm sure we will cross again. I think about the thousands of bic lighters that lit the night air every time you played "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler," and want you to remember those words that hopefully will give you faith -- "Let it Shine, Oh let it Shine." We respect your request, God bless you and your family Dan, shine on! ~ John and Sharon Lattanzi

Dear Dan & Family, I am very encouraged to hear you are still out there fighting this thing! I especially want to thank you for the incredibly positive influence you've had on my life. At age 52 now, I often reflect back on my youth years in Colorado where I lived from 1975-89. I will always remember one lonely night when while driving through Boulder, I noticed cars parked along the road and many people walking towards the basketball stadium at the University of Colorado. On the spot, I decided to pull off and ask what was going on. People said Dan Fogelberg was playing at the field house. I followed the crowd, purchased a ticket, and went about to have one of the most memorable, spiritual evenings of my life. It has made all the difference!!! Today, some 27 years later, I played "Make Love Stay" and "Leader of the Band" and the memories flooded back. I will end by saying that last year, I lost my father. My family played "Leader of The Band" many times the week after his death. It helped us all move through the emotions as for years we told him how much he was our "Leader of The Band." Our fathers surely had much in common. I don't know if you'll get the opportunity to read this, I'm certain you've received many, many words of appreciation and get well. If so...thank you from my heart, and if you don't..thank you from my heart! Stay strong Dan, it is not time yet for your voice to be silent!!!!!! ~ Jerry Esposito

Dan you have provided so much lyrical and musical inspiration over the years, and the universe will provide even more inspiration back to you as you face the challenges ahead....Andy Berdy- Ellicott City Maryland

Dan, I was very sorry to hear of your illness. I was and still am one of your biggest fans. Your music gave me many hours of happy times and great memories. As you go through this difficult period, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. ~ NL

Hi Dan, It came as a terrible shock to hear about your illness. I have been a fan from the beginning and especially through the The Innocent Age and beyond. As a musician myself, I have been uplifted by your song, words and expression. Even though I am non-practicing religion, my thoughts and my family's are with you. Even here in Australia you are a legend. Good luck with your journey. ~ David Bray and Family, Melbourne, Australia

Hi Dan - Chills went up my spine when I got the news, I cannot imagine a day without your music in my life. I have listened to your music from 1968 ("Looking for a Lady" the first song I had heard from you) and have listened to you almost every day from then on. I did however see you in Thousand Oaks (03). WONDERFUL NIGHT full of magic. Thank you for that. Dan I hope you are well soon, you (belive it or not) have been helping me through a very tough time in my life and if there way to repay you I would, dont check out on me now man I still need you, I really hope to see you again soon. Any way I am not real good at these things so please be well. God bless you all. A native prayer to you, Dan -- May beauty be above you, may beauty be below you, may beauty be behind you and may beauty be in front of you. a ho. Warmest regards to Jean. Love from the Shaddix family to the Fogelberg family.~ Jim Shaddix

You have given me so many hours of happiness. I wish for you and your family many, many, more hours that will turn into years of happiness. I can only repay you with good thoughts and words of encouragement for you and your family. My words seem such a small and inadequate repayment for what you have given me of yourself, but, Thank You and may God Bless you and your family and friends. ~ Alice Anne

Dear Dan and Jean, Just checking in on you to see how you are doing. Keep holding on Dan! I also want to give you some thanks for your inspiration. Love ~ Jessie - California

Thinking of you during this joyful season with gratitude for all you have given of yourself to us. Wishing you peace, happiness, good health and love this Christmas, in the new year, and always. We love you.

Dan, just thinking about your music brings back some wonderful memories. Thank you for Nether Lands. It was my favorite album in high school and the lyrics continue to amaze and surprise me even to this day. As a cancer survivor, I know that the initial diagnosis can be frightening; however, I also found that the experience freed me emotionally and spiritually. I hope that it can do the same for you. I wish you all of the best in the coming year. ~ Tracey in Alaska

I wish you and yours wonderful holidays. My brother actually introduced me to your music---he's your age, I'm 7 years younger. He used to play your music for me at night, and I fell in love with your words and songs. It's such visual and beautifully orchestrated music. It can take you to other places no matter where you are. I've been a fan since Home Free, and have many memories tied to your songs. I used to hum "Aspen" to my kids as I rocked them to sleep, "Long Way Home" is one of my running songs (and it does seem like a long way home when I run these days), we always played "The Wild Places" as we started going through the tunnels at Yosemite, and truly enjoy your Christmas album, especially "In the Bleak Midwinter". I'd love to hear you sing "Stars" at a concert some day, thanks for touching your various songs/albums at your concerts. It's always wonderful to hear some of your early music. So many thanks for sharing your gift of music with the rest of us. How fun Christmas must be at your home, music abounds, I'm sure. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and I look forward to your next tour. ~ Jill

Dan, Listening to Christmas songs on the radio and heard you... found your home page and was sorry to hear about your illness. A former Boulderite transplanted to Nashville in 1990 I was reminiscing and thought it would be a privilage and fun to play bass and sing with your band... I'll spare you the usual flattering resumé, just always enjoyed your music. May the strength and peace of the lord be with you and your family while in this time of uncertainty. Sincerely ~ Bryan Grassmeyer

Dan, Through adversity comes the strength to evolve and grow geometrically beyond the scope of our past. Those with the strength to overcome an obstacle, will indeed be rewarded with the personal growth, love and friendship, you have graciously shared as an artist. My wife is a cancer survivor, in our prayers and thoughts, you will become one too. God bless you this Christmas Holiday and for a speedy recovery in the New Year. ~ Bill & Cheryl in Maryland

Dear Dan, I was 17 and a month past the suicide of my father when I found your Nether Lands album beckoning to me from the limited collection of albums for sale at the Bon Marche in Richland Washington. It was the summer of 1977. What I found in that collection was some understanding of my pain and courage for the journey ahead. That journey has taken me to Nashville where I have had some success as a writer and artist. I have often been accused of being too poetic or intellectual or deep. My music has sometimes been criticized by some as complicated because it was more than just I, IV & V. I just smile and think about the beauty and depth I found so inspirational in your music and I know that I was and am inspired by your creativity. In the process of navigating the ups and downs of the music business this last year, I met another long term Fogelberg fan and we have decided to start a band playing your music here in Nashville. It was a highlight of my year sitting in his car last week listening to your box set and trying to decide which songs we were going to sing. We sang and I realized I still remembered the words to songs I hadn't heard in a long time...such is the impact of your music on my soul. Thank you. I hope someday I will have the chance to shake your hand and thank you in person. Regards ~ Michael Peterson

When our son Alex was 2 weeks old, you were appearing in concert outside of Chicago. My mother watched the baby, and my husband and I went to your concert, loving your music very much. When you sang "Run for the Roses", I turned to my husband and said, "that's what I want our baby to be, the fire of a mare and the strength of a stud." Many years passed, we moved to Arizona, and you will never know how deeply that wish came true. As a sophomore in High School Alex was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, Type I diabetes, and an unknown liver ailment. Through it all, he ran cross country and track, facing physical and emotional hurdles, that you, as one facing serious illness can understand. The summer before his senior year, (this year) the liver problem proved to be in stage 4, although the diagnoses was still not positive, they believe it to be schelcerous cholingitis, it is what Walter Payton died from. He now needs a liver transplant. All season, we took videos and pictures of the team, and put together an end of the season video. We used "Run for the Roses" as background music from the Flagstaff Invitational. It was so beautiful, and mama is beside him to help make him strong, and we are hopeful his outcome will be as successful as yours. He is a musically gifted child, plays many instruments and is planning on attending University of Arizona in the fall on academic scholarships. He is planning on being a doctor. He is currently a volunteer research assistant at Barrow's Neurological Institute, one of only a few students in Phoenix chosen for these positions. I just wanted you to know how much your music means to us, and has been interwoven in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ~ gary kula

Dan, It is Christmas morning as I write this note to you. To hear of good news and your recovery would be the most precious gift I could hope for. I started playing your songs in the early 70's. Even though I cannot read music, I painstakingly used my tapes, play...stop....rewind in order to learn your guitar playing. I have played your songs for so many people and seen the enjoyment it brings. I so much enjoy turning people on to your music. My father gave me my first guitar at 5 y/o. He was a singer/songwriter.....Leader Of The Band. They would play every week in my basement. When Innocent Age came out and I heard the song for the first time I wept. My father passed away in 1986 from a brain tumor. I inherited all of his musical stuff. Including his 1939 Gibson SJ200. My most precious inheritance. I have many other guitars that I play quite regularly, however, Dads guitar remains in the case. The only time that I pull that guitar out is to play Leader Of The Band. His blood runs thru my instrument and his song is in my soul. I went thru different stages and styles of music as the years passed. First it was stuff I could find in the library. Folk stuff.......Michael row the boat ashore.....Then I got into rock with the electric. He despised it. He was country all the way. That passed quickly as I turned to the sweet tones of acoustic and the songs of yours. Even thou yours wasn't country (till High Country Snows) he finally approved and would actually listen and enjoy what he heard. Since then I have listened and enjoyed such a wide range of music, however, the one mainstay has always been yours. I have 16 of your cd's. All of your vinyl up to High Country Snows. I have never missed a concert and have lost count. I continue to play......stop.....rewind and learn. Get well soon Dan. ~ Tim Vanover, Warren, MI

Hi Dan! Thanks for years and years of wonderful memories. It's amazing how many memories include your music. You've touched a lot of lives. Hope Christmas and New Year's find you doing well and having fun! All the best to you in 2005!

May peace and joy be with you and your family during this Holiday season and in the coming year. Thank you for the music. God Bless. You are in my prayers. ~ Paul

Oh Dan...I have loved you so since I was a teenager. Your music is a safe haven for me. a peaceful loving place. I will pray for you and your well being. May God Bless you abundantly for all the insight he has blessed you withand please know that your songs have touched me and inspired me for years. There is no way I can ever repay you, only with prayers. May God Bless you and heal you in the Blessed Name of Jesus Christ. I do pray and feel for you. You are a blessing to me -- for many years until now in my 40's..... Merry Christmas. Love, Peace, Prayers & Faith ~ Susan, oxo

Dear Mr. Fogelberg: It was your music that touched me when I was a young girl in my 20's from Maine alone in Philadelphia yearning for the peace and serenity that only the beauty of Maine's mountains, lakes, forests and streams and craggy shoreline can quench. I am now back in Maine and pray that you and your family will overcome the obstacles put forth. The future is always a bright beacon. As a man with the depth and understanding of faith, you know this. No matter what comes there will always be a positive outcome.....sometimes it is hard to see. I wish you all the best. ~ Jinney Kinney Castle Rock-on-Green Lake, Maine

I read all these entries, and am amazed at how many people you have touched in your life. How lucky that you have this website to know that all these people think about you daily. Wouldn't it be nice if each person had a page like this to realize how people feel about us? I hope you are doing better everyty day and that you are surrounded by beautiful nature and things that make you most happy. ~ Tarey from Zanesville

Dear Dan and Jean, God bless you at this season of Christmas and grant you peace, joy and love. Many prayers are lifted on your behalf in thanksgiving for what you and your music mean and in faith that the Lord Jesus will bring healing to you. Merry Christmas! ~ Pam

Dear Dan, You are such an inspiration for me. Your music really connects with my life. Having someone I know that died from cancer in my family, I know the pain and struggle it is. You and your family will be in my prayers. Happy Holidays and God Bless. ~ Jim, Chicago

My husband and I are sending you our very best wishes, and are holding you in the light. We hope that you have a wonderful and blessed holiday season. Your music is such a gift to us. "Only one thing matters: that wherever you go, and however you go, you hear the music of life." (Wish I could remember the author of that, but even though I can't, it inspires me nonetheless.) Thank you! ~ Mary and Mike McNellan

Dan, I hope you are feeling well. I've known about your battle for a few months now. I've been praying for you often. You and your music have touched me so much you will never know. I just wanted to wish you well and let you know alot of people have you in their prayers. By the way I love your new CD. It makes me feel like I'm listening to your music for the first time. It reminds me of Home Free and Souvenirs. It is awesome. I hope we hear more of that fantasic music soon. ~ Brian Norris

Dear Dan and Jean ~ Season's Greetings from the southeast. Dan, I just wanted you to know that I had all of your albums, then replaced them with cassettes, and have since replaced everything with CD's. However, when going through my DF library, I couldn't find 'Windows and Walls' on CD, so I bought it today. It's so good as are all the songs that you've done! The Christmas music has been wonderful lately as well. Thank-you for my Christmas gift; your music. I continue to pray for your recovery. I hope to hear soon in 2005 that your health is improving. ~ Cindy Fabian

Somewhere in the mid seventies when I was around thirteen, I first heard "To The Morning". It awoke a passion in me for music and life that has never died. Dan has shared his music and words with the world all of these years, and I pray that all the joy he has given the listeners, will come back to him in love and good health. I'm selfish, Dan, get better, I need to keep hearing your songs! Sincerely ~ Sarah Mallory, Tennessee

Dear Dan, You have been an inspiration to me for many years and may my prayers for your full recovery be answered with one hundred percent recovery. You have been a miracle for me and may many many miracles come to you. Sincerely ~ Steve Hardwick

Dear Dan, Being the son of a big band musician myself, (and my Dad was a member of His Dad's band) music was always abundant in my home. My Dad went from music to veterinary medicine, I followed those footsteps as well. Both he and I enjoyed your music from the beginning, and at our backyard wedding in 1983 you were present in "Longer" for my wife and "Leader of the Band" for our fathers. My wife is a breast cancer survivor since 2000. Her treatments and surgeries were ordeals, but we have hurdled those together, and look forward to our future together. We continue to enjoy your music, and were saddened to hear of your diagnosis; but we wanted to wish you well, and wish you a happy holiday season. ~ DocTerry and Tigger Paula

There are no words that work as well as the lyrics passed on from your soul. You've given all of us a living legacy. I pray that this battle is won for you and yours. There are meanings in your words that translate to beautiful ideas -- each of us can find wonderful expressions of our own through what you've shared. God Bless and give you strength, courage, endurance. ~ a fan since my 70's teen summers in the Rockies, A Boyer

Hey Dan, You don't know me from spit, but I sincerely hope that you and your family enjoy MANY more Christmases together. As a fellow Dan who has also been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I go in for surgery on Jan 13, and my surgeon and I are both very optimistic. My wife has been an amazingly positive force through al of this with me, and I know that my faith will help me get over the rough spots. I want to hear new stuff from you, and I want to be able to listen to it and dance if I feel inclined! Merry Christmas, and may your life be filled with positives after this "blip". ~ Daniel Awender, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

As someone who has enjoyed not only listening to but playing the totally unique and incredible music of Dan Fogelberg since the 70s. (I'm listening to about the 6th tape of Nether Lands as I type... going to have to replace it again..) I just want to pass on to Mr. Fogelberg my deepest thanks.. not only for the music itself.. but for "being there" for me so many times in my life. His music, the poetry of his lyrics and the spirit that soars in both has accompanied me for over twenty years. Now I hope that this humble message reaches him and he knows that he is in my prayers and thoughts. It's a small payback for all his amazing talent has done for me over the decades. Get well, Dan...A fellow Illinois boy ~ Stephen Griffith

Dear Dan, When I heard the news of your prostate cancer, I was so surprised and sorry at the same time. You are very young to have this type of cancer. I pray that you can cope well with whatever treatment options your oncologist recommends. You have given so much through your music. It is time we give back to you with hopes and prayers for a speedy recovery. Thank you Dan Fogelberg for making my life so much happier. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. A fan for many, many years. Love ~ Penny Whisenhunt

I've been a fan since the 60's. Wish you the best. Hope to see you at the Keswick sometime soon. You're the best!! ~ Ron Caseiro

Dan, You will always be the man. It was about 30 years ago that I became one of the world's biggest Fogelberg fans after being lucky enough to see you in concert in Buffalo, New York. You were opening a show for the already famous Eagles. After your all too brief concert I was hooked forever. 30 years later I had the honor to see you in concert again in Orillia Ontario and God willing, I'll see you perform again soon. All of Canada is with you ~ Mike

Get Well and Stay Well Dan - For nearly 30 years I have been listening to you and have thought of you as a brother. Hope things go well. ~ Rick

Greetings to Dan and his family: I am so sorry to hear about what you're going through, and hope that things are looking up for you. My mother had colon cancer in 1996, but is still with us through the blessing of early detection. I have been thinking about you recently as I just purchased Nether Lands on cd after having it on vinyl for almost 25 years. It's my favorite of all your works--so rich, beautiful, and sensitive. Hang in there and know we're all praying for you. Your music and artistic talents are such a wonderful contribution to this world. I wish you all the happiest of holidays and hope 2005 will be much better for you. Merry Christmas! Sincerely ~ Lisa J. Bilgrien

Dan, We are all praying for your complete recovery. My girls, ages 10, 8, and 6, remember you each night in their prayers. They are second generation fans. My 10 year old, Bella, accompanied me to your concert last 4th of July in Denver, and you were awesome as usual. Even though Bella was not feeling well that night, she refused to miss your show. Bella has taken up piano and guitar, inspired by you, no doubt. Thanks for all of the great years of music, and please get well soon, we miss you! We love all of your music, and are especially enjoying "The First Christmas Morning" cd this holiday season. Best wishes to you and your family this holiday season ~ Scott Lucareli

Merry Christmas Dan! We continue to pray your treatments leave you healthy and happy. We miss you and wish someone would update your website with your progress. The power of prayer is awesome..as are you. Blessings on your holiday and a wonderful 2005! In our thoughts and continued prayers! ~ Chuck and Barb

Dan - When I think of your music, I notice a stronger stride in my step... I have actually "met my former lover" at a grocery store, and when my father died I played the rhythm of "Leader Of  The Band" over and over in my head... God bless you and please continue being DF... ~ Jim Maggio - Colorado

You can't begin to know the impact that your music has had on my life. I'm a 50 year old race car driver/writer and get a physical every year, but I always worry about prostate cancer since my dad had the disease. He ended up living a long life after treatment, passing away at age 87. Anyway, since I was 25 years old, I have decided that on my tombstone, I want this statement: "All of the answers you seek can be found in the dreams that you dream on the way". Hope that won't be a copyright problem. If it is, the record company won't be able to sue me since I'll be dead. Just wanted you to know that there is another soul out there thinking about you from time to time and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your music. Hope to see you on the next tour, if I don't wreck one of my cars - Mike

Dear Dan, God Bless! I have loved your music for 20 plus years as did my late husband. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Sue Hunter

In all my life no one has ever touched me the way you have. At 15 - with no job so no way to buy a present and a man who lived "Leader of the Band" as a father, I bought parchment paper and a calligraphy kit and set out making my father the one gift he treasured and displayed until his death. Now it hangs in my bedroom. It is the words - words from your pen and voice into my heart, your words, your heart. You never traveled through LA without me being there, even if  I had to attend the show alone. I now live in Nashville and have waited for my chance to see you here, and I do EXPECT to see you here :) You are a man of honor, one of the few in this business I truly respect. There's not a cd, album or cassette I don't have in my home or truck. You've been through every love, every heart break, every stage of my life with me. And now - I am here for you... you will be in my prayers and my thoughts daily. You are so very much loved. Know that!! ~ Shari Boyd

Dan, My thoughts and prayers are with you. You have been a big part of my musical life. I own every recording you ever made and have enjoyed every one. Especially thru Captured Angel. I've come to see you every time you came to Pittsburgh and hope to get the chance to see you again and I'm sure I will. Again best wishes for a full recovery. your biggest fans ~ Abe

Dan, I feel like I know you. I wish that I could. Your music has been with me (us) since the mid 70s when I was first introduced to Home Free, Captured Angel, and Souvenirs by my then boyfriend, John, who is now my husband of 23 years. I cannot begin to describe what your music has meant to me personally over the years. I was so disappointed to miss your concert this fall; for the first time ever, I actually had 7th row tickets and was flying high to think I'd be that close! When I heard your personal news, my heart sank very deeply for you and of course you had no alternative but to cancel your fall tour. It must be so heartwarming for you to read your many fans' notes of encouragement and prayer. You are loved by so many. I pulled out my Christmas CDs and have been enjoying yours again so much. What a powerful CD, as is ALL of your music. I want to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season and the very best for the new year. You have my most sincere wishes for a complete recovery, and I look forward to seeing you again just as soon as you are up to it. We'll be celebrating with Bruce Marshall and his band on New Year's Eve in York, Maine, and I'm going to ask him to play me a song of yours, and we'll be thinking of you and praying for you ~ Cindy Farley and husband, John, of Cape Neddick, Maine

Dearest Dan - May angels be watching over you - keeping you safe ... May you and your loved ones enjoy all of your favorite cherished holiday traditions ... May all of your Christmas wishes come true ... With much love always ~ June / Norwalk, CT

Dan: Just wanted you to know that we have been fans for many years. You are such a talented person.... your music is an inspiration to us all. We had the pleasure of meeting you at a benefit held after a concert at Great Woods in Mansfield, Massachusetts over ten years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We are looking forward to your next tour. Best Wishes for a speedy recovery. ~ Paula and Joe Butterfield

Dan, We know that God works wonders, and we know he is working on your behalf. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. You are much Loved by many, many people, much more perhaps than you can imagine. God has given you a special talent, and God will see you through. Always a Friend ~ Dan and Kathy Corvin, Liberty Township, Ohio

Dear Dan, I was thumbing through my albums and noticed I still have a copy of Home Free. Then I realized that I have been a fan of yours for more than thirty years. I was living in Gunnison Colorado at the time, going to school. Your songs have helped me through many a cold winters night. I have a family of four now and live in Loveland Colorado. Your songs have always inspired me to live better. This holiday season our thoughts are with you and we wish you the best of good health. Sincerely ~ Bruce Kolacny

Hello Dan, I have prostate cancer too. At first I was not very encouraged by the diagnosis and prognosis. But I have been treated and continue to follow-up and it has now been five years. I have a few annoying symptoms but I just laugh those off. Otherwise, LIFE IS GREAT. I ride a motorcycle regularly (my lifetime hobby) and go backpacking in the mountains. I will pray that you do as well as I do. I know you have a very positive attitude and I also know you are going to be fine. God bless you. ~ Dan - Seattle

Hi, Dan, Wishing you and yours all the best for the holiday season and upcoming year. How can we ever thank you enough for your awe-inspiring and totally spirit-lifting Holiday Season music? We are just in awe of that CD! Thanks a billion! May the Creator watch over a truly blessed man, Daniel Fogelberg. ~ Dan from Mendham, NJ

I truly enjoy your music and hope your recovery is swift and complete. Best Wishes. ~ Christine Conner

I wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU for the impact that you and your music has made in my life. My thoughts go out to you and your family through this holiday season. ~ Jan -- Minneapolis

Dan, I'm no different than any of your other fans and I've followed your entire career. My prayers not only go out to you but your family too. I know several prostate cancer survivors and I expect a full recovery on your part. The world has been blessed with your suburb talent and heartfelt poetry. I wish you great health and success in he future. Godspeed ~ Greg DeMaio. Lt Col, USAF

Dear Dan, I am a spiritual person who has followed and immensely enjoyed your music and artistry over the past few decades. Your music and eloquence has deeply touched my soul and has been the inspiration for what has now become some of the fondest memories I have as it cataloged the passage of the times with my family, friends and even my exhusband. I thank you for the many magnificent performances you have given, which I was fortunate to attend at the Greek Theatre, while I lived in Los Angeles. I was compelled to write because I was so saddened to hear that you have been ill. Having just recovered physically and emotionally from a possible life threatening illness myself, I just wanted to send powerful healing thoughts and prayers from all the healing angels to surround you and your family as you bravely face the challenges of getting well again. I wish that you will soon feel all the collective healing energy that all your fans and loved ones have been sending to you. If you are interested, I would humbly like to suggest a great tool that I used to substantially keep me grounded that may also help you as you journey back to good health again. It is the Universal Angel cards by Juliet Jarrey Hubbs and Nora Monaco. They really helped (and still continue to help me) as they invoke greater awareness and understanding from within. I wish you well again soon. Keep the faith!! With warmest regards and best wishes from another loving fan. ~ Robin

Dan and family: We continue to think of you daily and send positive thoughts your way. We wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season. May the support of family and friends help you during this difficult time. ~ Denny Peck, Christine Evans, Carlisle and Emma.

Hi, I have been listening to your music for the past 25 years, and have seen you several times in concert. Please know that I will keep you in my thoughts as you recover. I look forward to attending another concert of yours soon. ~ Mary Ann

I am also a musician/songwriter of some 35 years or so. Your music has had an impact on my writing and performing. The emotion always comes through in your voice. At 53 years now, I've been increasing confronted with how mortal we all are and how precious life is. Music lives forever and we both share that. My prayers are with you. I look forward to your musical return. ~ Jim Goodman

Dear Dan, I just found out about your illness and wanted to send my prayers your way. I lost my father to prostate cancer 11 years ago but so much knowledge about treatment and cure has been gained during that time. "Run for the Roses" and "Same Old Lang Syne" are two of my favorite songs and bring back such wonderful memories of the 70s. Take care and I know that we'll be hearing your music for many, many years to come.A fan ~ LC in St. Louis

Am sitting here listening to "Same Old Lang Syne" and thinking about what this song and all of the others have meant to me. My life would not be the same without the gifts that your songs have given me. Thanks for all the memories. My thoughts are with you and your family at Christmastime and throughout the new year! Wishing you a peaceful and healthful New Year ~ Penny-Nebraska

As a 49 year-old advanced prostate cancer patient living in Madrid, Spain (47 years at diagnosis), I want to send you my best message of hope for the New Year 2005 and for countless new years and music albums to come. Since my diagnosis and treatment, I am participating in a U.S.A. prostate cancer support board where you can help others and be helped by many. My best wishes for a prompt recovery. THERE IS HOPE! ~ Manuel Pascual Morales

Dear Dan, I am a native of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and I have to tell you that your music has given me strength and inspiration since I was in High School during the early 1980's. Much of your music has reflected the love and passion I have for this awesome valley called Jackson Hole. I received many a medal during High School Nordic ski race events and I did it with the inspiration of your music playing in my mind. I hope that you will visit Jackson Hole sometime in the future and perform for us here. Your voice matches the mountains here. Thank you for your offering of love, beauty and the lessons you have taught me that have made me a better man. God bless you and my prayers are with you for your speedy and full healing and recovery. All my very best to you and your family during this holiday season and into the new year ~ Benjamin Scott Clark

Dan, I want to thank you. You are 100% responsible for me meeting my beautiful wife Ana. We met at your 1985 concert in Irvine Ca. (Irvine Meadows) If not for you...well...I can't imagine life without her...I can't imagine your music not being in our lives. We wish you the best. Our prayers are with you and your family. ~ Tim & Ana

My husband and I were brought up on your music in Peoria, Illinois where we lived until almost 30 years old. We have seen many of your concerts and have enjoyed all of your C.D's - all your music touches us in so many ways! We will always be dedicated fans - last time we saw you was about 5 years ago in Oregon at a winery - it was wonderful and magical! Merry Christmas to you and your family and I am hoping a speedy recovery for you! I know you can do it! ~ The Ellis Family, Oregon

Dear Dan, I, like millions of others, hold you close in my heart, especially now, for the least I can do for all of the unspeakable ebullience that you have offered up since my first Souvenirs introduction to your creative genius is to send you Light and Love. I am a 20+ year chiropractor /clinical nutritionist. I encourage you to follow Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo's blood type eating and supplementation construct at www.dadamo.com. In fact, Dr. D'Adamo most recent four hardback short books on Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Dx., and Arthritis are massive. A dear friend of mine is recovering nicely from prostate CA utilizing D'Adamo's cancer protocols from that same book. ~ Dr. Peter Williams (singer / songwriter too!), Marietta, GA

Dear Dan, I've followed you and your career since the 1970's and hope to continue following you into the far future. We have grown older together and my prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family for a speedy recovery. God bless and get well soon, as the world still needs your voice, your philosophies, your stories and passions for the environment and the forgotten people. ~ Dan Lewis, A fan from Minneapolis

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter sang "The First Christmas Morning" at our church Christmas candle light service last night (I accompanied on guitar) and in addition to the compliments for her singing, I heard many comments about how beautiful the song was. Most had never heard the song before. So thanks again Dan for adding your talents to the Christmas holiday. ~ Steve -Ohio

Dan, Get well soon...We love you and your music so very much. There is way too much work left to be done, for you to check out now....I send you love and light ~ jeffrey

Dear Dan: Thank you for providing reference points through the years. As life progresses, subconsciously some phrase will surface that seems to match what's occurring. Very frequently, that phrase is one you gave me via one of your songs. Four months of impact can be a long time for musicians. Your contributions are in their fourth decade for me. I gratefully offer prayers, thoughts, and best wishes. ~ Patrick in Michigan

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you fight this fight.Ironically another of my favourite singers, Matthew Ward, took on and slew this particular dragon an exact decade ago in 1994. I've seen him in concert both before and since. Haven't yet had the pleasure of attending a concert of yours ("Greetings From The West" on VHS is the closest so far!)...but I don't doubt I'll do so before too long. Two or three days ago I listened to "The First Christmas Morning" several times; will give it another spin tonight and it will be all the more meaningful...Peace ~ Steve Tournay (a fan in Hamilton, Canada)

Dearest Dan and Family, Missing you and thinking about you every day, sending loving blessings of good health, healing and Light. Stay warm and breathe in healing energy with each breath you take. Healthy, Happy Holidays to you and yours. In Light ~ Debra - Miami

Dear Dan - Dennis Leary has it all wrong. I got along just fine in the 70's. Your music helped me bag, and hang onto, the love of my life. Thanks, and best wishes.

Dear Dan-All the Power and Purity and Honesty and Love you have always expressed so clearly in your songs will get you through this personal crisis-I just know it! You have always been such an inspiration to me and my family for so many years and your great and moving music and imagery has been part of the sound track of our lives-from Hawaii to Europe, the California Coast, Malibu and Big Sur, all over the world-your songs resonate with memory and the wonderful meaning you have added to our lives. Such enrichment and depth, Belief and Faith! I pray that you will live a long life and please know just how much your music and your presence here has meant to us, thus far!!! All our and MY love to you.. ~ ALDEN MARIN-Pacific Palisades

Dan, I'm your Italian fan. Your music has been my soundtrack for thirty years and I hope it will carry on for another thirty years. Make me a promise: when you are better, please come here to Italy and perform. Italian people know you and listen to your music. I'm sad and I don't have other words.  For 30 odd years I have loved your music and can't find the words that express what your music has meant to me. I thank you for the music and lyrics that always that meant so much. Get well! ~ Bill Small Richmond, Maine

I can only wish Mr. Fogelberg sincere wishes for a full recovery and the support of his family and close friends.  Dear Dan, I was looking for concert tickets as a Christmas gift for my wife Marsha when I saw the notice about your being treated for cancer. Marsha and I have been fans since the 70's and we send you our love and wishes for a quick and full recovery. We hope to see you back on the road soon of course, but hope that you can spend all of your time now with your family and those close to you. For me, "Leader of the Band" always brings tears to my eyes because I relate it to my father whom I admire and love very much. I have enjoyed figuring out and playing you songs on the guitar, and admire your talent for playing, writing, and performing. We have been in your audiences several times while you have been here in Southern California, and look forward to being there in many more concerts, clapping, singing, screaming, and celebrating with you!! Happiest of Holidays to you and you family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!!! ~ Lee Meyer

Dan, I have enjoyed your music since my high school days in the mid-'70s. Like many of your fans, I have also shared your wonderful gift with friends and family. I have eagerly awaited each new release like a letter from an old friend. I have yet to be disappointed. Your album The Innocent Age has become a cherished part of my collection over the years. At the time "Same Old Lang Syne" came at a time when my kid sister was fighting the battle of her life against a rare form of childhood cancer. Although she did not survive, that song, as well as the entire album proved to help me endure the physical and emotional separation I felt after her death. To this day, that masterpiece has continued to not only comfort me when I feel down, but also brings a smile to my face. I am praying for you and your family, Dan, and I trust you will make a full and complete recovery, for somehow I sense you still have much to say to us. Thank you for your gift of music that you have so generously shared, and May God Bless and Keep You. Your Fan ~ Tony Hedrick, Kokomo, Indiana

"Behind all seen things lies something vaster; everything is but a path, a portal, or a window opening on something other than itself." ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Here it is the new year. I wish for you good and better health. We all think of you often. I have listened to your music almost every day for 28 years. I will continue to listen to your wonderful music until the day I die. It has been part of my life daily since I was a teenager. Your new CD, Full Circle, is so good. Please take care of yourself. God bless you and your family. ~ April

Dan... Our Positive Thoughts and Prayers are with you and know God will watch over you and your family and all will be fine soon...Have tremendously enjoyed your music over all these years and your Humphrys concerts in San Diego and know that there is still alot of music left for you to play. Much Love and God's Blessings. ~ Mike & Roxann, Rancho Mirage, CA

Dan, remember that God is with you and you will get better soon.

Dan, best wishes to you and your family as you recover from your illness. Your songs and lyrics have kept my heart humble and my head down to earth. From a Canadian fan. God bless!!

Dan, You are in my thoughts constantly, and I pray that you and your family are continually strengthened during this fight.I pray that the Lord comforts you throughout this battle, look to him for strength! ~ Laura in Arizona

Dan, stay pleased with those you share yourself, remember what they give is from their love for you, and that is based on who they are shared with you personally. All of them must be grand friends and loved ones, I wish every one of them the best through all this, and hope that each have learned on a more personal level just how strong and caring they can be in times of need. It's quite an awesome gift to find that strength one thinks them self incapable of. I hope daily that you've found yours Dan, and know with that strength, will come a gift to yourself nothing will ever replace. Stay strong, and know you are being thought of by many good people wishing you nothing short of better health, and much deserved peace and happiness. Happy New Year Dan!

Dan, fellow former Central Illinoisian, thought and prayers to you and yours. I've loved your music for years, but this year, it was ultimate comfort as my family went through the deaths of two family members. Godspeed and get better--you're still on my list of "Concerts to go to"! ~ Melinda in Orlando, FL

I just wanted to express my hopes and wishes for your recovery. Your music has inspired me for years. I saw you in concert in San Antonio several years back and your performance only served to solidify my admiration. Your song "Leader of the Band" always reminded me of my late Father. Again, my best to you and your family. May God be with you. ~ Barry

Dan, I was just thinking of you and wondering how your health was. Since I haven't heard anything recently then, I assume you are progressing. Praise God! I will pray for you. You are my favorite artist and songwriter. The best of all time. No one does it better than you do. I appreciate you so much. Best of everything for you and your family. ~ Linda Wheeler-Boston

Hi, Dan - My dearest friend told me last night of your battle with cancer, and I've been thinking of you ever since. (I've got you plugged into my ear via my iPod right now!) My friend and I decided last night when we talked that you were a very important part of our 'formidable years' as we went through high school - 'Nether Lands' and 'The Innocent Age' were staples for us in those days, and you have been one of those constants in our lives for 20+ years! We thank you for that. We know that you will be fine - we are sending good wishes and prayers your way for a speedy recovery. We wish you strength and peace as you battle (and win!) this disease. ~ Sara & Danny

Dan, All of out thoughts and prayers are with you. We love your music, and it has meant so much to us personally;more then we can say. Our 11 year old son is a cancer survivor, so we understand what fighting cancer is like. May you heal quickly! Love ~ Sue and Paul

Dan, From the moment I heard about your illness you have been in my thoughts. As a cancer survivor, I know a cure is possible and I wish this for you. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your music with us. I'm a fan from the "old days" when I was living in Nederland, CO in the late '70's, early 80's. Your music has brought me so much joy and has helped me through some difficult times. My prayers are with you and your family.~ Kathie Said, Costa Mesa, CA

Dear Dan, My family and I wish you strength and faith during your fight! We hope that your friends, family and fans might inspire you as you have inspried us always! Love, hugs and prayers are with you! ~ Susie Cooper

Dan, I have loved your music for so long. I am thinking of you and your family every day and praying for all of you. May God give all of you the strength to carry on as long as it takes to fight this horrible disease. Many prayers to all of you.~ Sue H

During my final year of nursing school (1973/4), a fellow nursing student introduced me to Dan's music. I loved it immediately and still do today. Just tonight I was looking for the words to "Same Old Lang Syne" ( I find myself drawn to it during this time of year) and discovered this website and Dan's illness. I pray for a steady recovery for Dan. I know that it is possible, for all things are for those that believe. ~ Sheri Harding, Murfreesboro, TN

Dear Dan, What you and your gifts have meant to me have been echoed so eloquently by others, I won't be redundant. I just got back from Colorado and each time I looked up at the mountains I thought of you and wondered how you are. I know we will see you sing again and wish you a promising new year. ~sevh

Dear Dan, I have been a HUGE fan of yours since the mid 70's. My older brother introduced me to your music by playing many of your songs on his acoustic guitar. Over the past 30 years, your musical talent has inspired and mesmerized me from Home Free to Full Circle. I truly admire your gift as a singer, songwriter, musician and artist. Your music has had a profound, positive influence on my life. I have been lucky to have seen you perform several times in concert both solo acoustic and with your band. A few years back, I even had the pleasure of meeting you at the Turning Stone Casino. Your picture is still proudly hanging on my refrigerator! I have enjoyed listening to the beauty of your Christmas CD this holiday season. May you find comfort in knowing that so many people care and are praying for your complete recovery. Wishing you peace, love and good health in 2005! ~ Jill Alder - Clinton, New York

Hi Dan! I have loved your music from the beginning but for some strange reason--only just realized you had a Christmas cd. I have listened to it on my i-pod until people think I am crazy--then I put the speakers up to everyone else's ears and say--YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS!!! It is beyond beautiful!! My husband and I were distressed to hear of your illness but know that the Great Physician is well able to carry you through to healing. We are praying for you every day and look forward to hearing of your good health in the coming year. Thanks for all you have given to others. In His grace and grip ~ Carol Anne and Billie Hanks, Jr. Salado, Texas

Dan -your music has been the soundtrack for my life. Your eloquent prose underscored with your beautiful melodies have so enriched my days. Please know that you are sincerely appreciated and kept in the thoughts and prayers of many, including me. I only wish I could offer you the source of strength and energy that your music has given me. All the best to you and your family through this difficult chapter in your life. I know that you will be triumphant. ~ Linda Flinn Truxton, MO

Dan ~Just wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I have been a fan since the mid-70's and your music has meant so much to me. It has been with me through both happy and sad times and has truly touched my heart and soul. I have attended quite a few of your concerts in suburban Philadelphia and you've always been so gracious to your fans. May God bless you with good health and a long, happy life. Happy New Year. ~ Lynn

Dan, I hope this New Year finds you well on the road to recovery and looking forward to writing, singing and touring again. You are the best lyricist in popular music and your songs have inspired people for decades. 'Leader of the Band' helped many of us reconcile the death of a parent. 'Believe in Me' is the perfect love song and my personal favorite. We anxiously await good news about your health and will be standing in line to buy the next album or concert ticket. Thank you for your music. ~ Bob Franklin

Your songs have made an excellent sound track for my life thus far, and the three concerts of yours which I have attended are the best I've ever heard (and as a child of the late 60's, that's a lot of concerts!). I wish you and your family all the best and know that you are in my prayers. God Bless You and Yours. ~ Janet Ousley

Dear Dan, We know 2005 will be a much better year for you. We have been fans forever and really look forward to your recovery right along with you. Take time to take care of you! You will be amazed at how much your fans love you and how loyal they are when you are able to tour.  Hope you have a happy and wonderful New Year. Please know we are out here in the millions pushing for your speedy recovery and good health. Fondly ~ Melissa and Tim Downey, Michigan

Like so many others, I have been listening to your music for years and years. So many songs have touched my life. It has been a pleasure to tag along on your musical journey. Thank you for sharing your incredible gift with all of us.My heart goes out to you and those around you. I pray that you will recover and be restored to the very best of health. ~ Julie, Indianapolis, IN

Just sitting here at my desk at work and the radio station is playing your "Same Old Lang Syne" song as they do every morning since you have been ill. Each time they play it, I check your website to see if there is any news from you on how you are doing. Today I thought to myself, gosh, it is now December 30 and they are also playing it because tomorrow night is New Year's Eve. I have heard this song countless times and each time it gives me the same chills it did when I heard it 30 years ago. It is a reflection of so many different feelings and memories for so many of us and I thank you for writing that song and sharing it, along with all your other songs, with each of us. Happy New Year to you and your family! We love you, we thank you for the joy of your music, and we wish you a speedy recovery! ~ L. Riski, Tampa, FL

Dan and Jean: I just read your biography and I have to say that after reading it, I feel like you're an old friend. I've loved your music for many years, not only the melodies but the incredible lyrics. Not too much music really sends a message like yours does, so putting thoughts and emotions with melodies is what it's all about in my estimation. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I know with God's healing power and the love of your family and friends, the battle is already won!! Your "unknown friend" ~ Alex Patton, St. Louis, Missouri.

On a whim, and feeling in the mood for some awesome music, I went out tonight and purchased "The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg". I work in the music industry in Nashville, and so rare is the day I am inspired to actually purchase a CD, instead of calling a friend who works at another label, to get it for me. (one of the few job perks) But I really needed to hear "Hard To Say", "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the Band". I walked outside and busted it open with a key (because there is never a CD opener around when you really need one) got in my car and I called my younger sister on the phone and played some of the music for her while I was driving and singing along at the top of my voice, and we had a good laugh/cry about the good old days, and how I wore out my vinyl of Dan's Greatest Hits. We even remembered the vinyl cover, describing to each other the photo of Dan and what he was wearing. (flashbacks can be a scary thing) And I came home and went to the website to see what sort of tour news there might be, and saw the announcement about Dan's health. I want to send my thoughts and prayers, and thanks for all of the wonderful music. There is no new music out today that can surpass the absolute beauty of the songs written and sung by Dan. I pray for his recovery, so that he can continue to make new memories for all of the people that love his music and those yet to discover it. Sincerely ~ Debbie Loring, Nashville, Tennessee

Dan - Godspeed on your recovery and prayers that your treatment is effective and your prognosis good. So many of us out here care for you, are concerned and wish you only the very best. A golden nugget of positive and hopeful info would be a truly great way to bring in the New Year for all Dan Fans. God Bless. ~ Greg (a dedicated fan since 1971)

Dear Dan and family, Every time we play a song from your Christmas album this holiday season, we send extra special prayers your way. Wishing you the peace and the promise of the season. ~ The Carrere family of Reading, PA

Dear Dan, I have listened to your music for years and heard one of your songs tonight on the radio, which led me to your website. I just wanted to say that you will be in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you and your family the best. Get well soon. ~ J.Bourque, Boston, MA

This message is for Dan Fogelberg and all of the other victims of advanced prostate cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. My ex-father-in-law suffered and survived from this tragic disease while in his early 50's by participating in a research study of radio-active bead implantation. He is now 63 and in wonderful health. I hope you all find the treatment specific to your needs and live a long and healthy life. Mr. Fogelberg, you need to know that I have been a faithful and loyal fan since the mid 70's. I am "only" 38 years old but adore your music, especially the duets with Tim Weisberg, since I am an old flautist and a University of Iowa Old Gold Singer from back in " the good ole" big hair days. My best wishes to you and your family for a fantastic new year and a long prosperous life! Love ~ Bonnie L. Muller

Dan...Like so many others, I pray for you. Whatever will be will be. We are not in control and this is not all there is. I believe so strongly in God. Anyway, many, many have survived this cancer. Be strong. Your music has been such a part of my life. I'm 47 years old and just today I played the CD, Captured Angel for my most special daughters, Laren and Lindsay, ages 6 and 8. It meant so much to me that they loved "Old Tennessee", "The Last Nail" and "These Days". Your music is so special. I am crying typing this email. Our prayers are focused on your needs.

Dear Dan, My niece Beth introduced me to your music many, many years ago. She was at Mount Holyoke College, and I was teaching high school in western Massachusetts. More than a decade separated her and me in age, but we both derived great pleasure listening to your voice, your ability as a musician, your gift as a songwriter. I just heard of your illness and wanted to make contact. I'd like to pass along an expression: "When the warrior is ready, the battle appears." (This is obviously a variation of "When the student is ready, the teacher appears.") When I was a child, I felt God had been unfairly cruel to Moses, not allowing him into the Promised Land because he had made one mistake. My mother explained to me that Moses was God's star pupil at that time, and the teacher holds the best students to the most stringent rules and expects them to take on the hardest lessons. I believe our tasks are to love and to learn. You have been given one of life's most difficult challenges, but this must mean God considers you to be a warrior worthy of the battle. The immense talents you have, not to mention your physical beauty, indicate that God has blessed you, has considered you a star pupil. People around the world are praying for your perfect healing, whatever form that takes. You have given us an opportunity to reciprocate in small measure for what you've given us. Feel the support holding you, from thousands and thousands of friends you have never seen. Let our loving wishes for your healing give you strength and peace. ~ Laurie Rosin, Sarasota, FL

Dear Dan, I pray that this note finds you strong in spirit and in body. I want to thank you for blessing my family and myself with years of musical and poetic nurturing. Your melodies, harmonies and lyrics have always provided such solace; a spiritual revisiting and transport when I've needed it most. I find it amazing how I could feel such a connection with someone I've never had the pleasure of meeting. I could never find the words to truly express my gratitude to you for realizing and sharing your gifts with so many people. I have to believe that the path of inspiration and love that your life has taken will come full circle and give you the strength to overcome your current challenges. Please just know that the loving energy that you've shared with so many intimate strangers over the years comes back to you infinitely today, tomorrow and always. I send you love and look forward to many years of inspiration from you in whatever form it may come. With loving support and admiration ~ Suzanne

I say to you a simple but heartfelt Thank You.Your music has been my friend and companion since I was a junior in high school when a boyfriend gave me an 8-track of "Captured Angel". I have appreciated and enjoyed everywhere your muses have taken you musically over the years. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. May you continue to be aware of the amazing unlimited blessings that are unfolding for you now. ~ Laura D. Allen, St. Louis, Missouri

This winter solstice, I burned a yule log and danced around it for days and under the clear night sky-in my mind, that is, in the moments I looked away from my computer screen, the clutter on my desk and in my mind. This, I felt, would bring me closer to the earth, rest and renew my soul, and allow me to see more clearly across the year past and the year to come. On the first day I thought about you, and as I looked across the fire (to your website), I saw that you had fallen ill. For days now, I have been stoking the fire, thinking. The prospect of your demise (which I hope, as you say, has been greatly exaggerated) has caused me to reflect much on the past, the present, and the future. I have read many of the good wishes, thoughts and prayers posted on this website, and it warms my soul to know that you and many others like you will always call this good earth home. (May it be Evergreen.) There we dance, dance around your fire, celebrating your gifts and wishing only the very best for you and your family in these trying times. For years you have been, and for the rest of our days you will be, a bright, shining light for us all. For this I pray: That you will die an old, old and happy man, warm in your bed and with your lovely wife - and a warm fire - beside you. Then, when we go to the high country and feel the sun in our faces, we will know that you are there, king and shepherd of the wild places. This is my vision. Ever on. Yours truly ~ Kathleen Carter, Temecula, CA

Dear Dan, We've never met, but I feel I know you. Your music has inspired me since 1976, and I have collected almost everything you have produced. I've sat in the audience each time you have passed though St. Louis, and I'll never forget the acoustical tour of 82, as it is my favorite. Your hardship has touched me deeply and I so wanted to find a way to contact you. The spirit in your music demonstrates to me that God is in you, and has been for a long time. My prayers are with you. I am confident that you will... just like the phoenix, rise from the flame. Look forward to your return to St. Louis. ~ Kevin Marler

Hang in there, Dan! Your music has meant so much to me throughout my life, from the first album of yours I bought in 1977 (Souvenirs) right through to today. At every stage of my life - college years, adulthood, marriage, divorce, life's upheavals - I've always found something hopeful and restorative in your music. I've also had the pleasure of seeing you perform live several times over the years.Thank you for giving me something constant and comforting in my life. I hope our good wishes for you will in some way repay that debt. Health, my friend! ~ Katherine

Dan: My husband and I have loved your music for years and were sorry to hear of your illness. Please accept our wishes for your recovery. We also have two "living legacies", ages eight and five, who are following our example and becoming fans of your music. We all hope to see you again in concert. ~ Chip and Lori Christ, Fort Worth, Texas

Dan, For many years your music has been some of my most fondly cherished. You will be in my prayers. When you've kicked this thing, and decide to tour again, I will be first in line for a ticket. ~ Ted Whitten, Tucson, AZ

Thinking of you. You have touched me deeply with your beautiful voice and words. In return for this gift you shared with me, I send you my gift of Reiki healing touch energy. May it aid you as you need it. Peace and blessings to you. ~ Suzy McFarland

Dan - Hope you are recovering well. You have touched so many peoples lives with your music and now we are here to return the favor.. I wish the best for you and peace to your family as you travel thru life's journey. Looking forward to seeing you in the future. ~ Scott D, San Francisco, CA

Dan, I was sorry to hear of your illness but with so many people having beaten this disease, I'm sure you will do the same. I became a fan while in college in the late 70's and still never tire of the smooth tunes from the Nether Lands album. I look forward to your recovery and the inspirational music that i'm sure will follow. Peace be with you ~ Ken

Dan, I've listened to your music since the early 70's. My older sister would play your albums and I would listen. When I was old enough to buy them for myself, I bought all there is! I still have them but have since bought tapes and CD's since record player needles are hard to come by these days. I also saw you on a few different occasions outside of Philadelphia at the theatre in the round. I and many others have been blessed for years by your talent. May God bless you and your family richly and heal your body.Be strong and fight. Thank you for your labor of love. ~ Joy P. / Virginia Beach, VA

Hi Dan, I have enjoyed your music for years. I only wish I was as talented. I was just looking for a tour from you and found your site and was surprised to hear of your condition. I hope everything will turn out as God wishes. My prayers are with you too. I'm sure you will conquer this. Take care and God bless you and your family. ~ RK - Iowa

Dan, I've been wanting to tell you how much you have meant to me in my life since this forum of love & support for you has been set up. For some reason, my computer would not let me respond....until tonight! I had tickets to your November acoustic performance, when I received a call from the theater to inform me that you had cancelled due to illness. I came to your website & was devastated to find what you had to deal with! I've come here often since, to read what others had to say about you. I found that you have touched them ALL the same way you have touched me! Not many artists can touch ones soul....but you have mine. Not only the beauty of your compositions move me, but the true real-to-life lyrics that could only come from one who experienced them. You have learned a lot from life....stuff that I'm only now beginning to understand & experience myself. I call "Don't Lose Heart" my theme song....THAT song has picked me up more times than I can say!I love all the music you've given us....but the one CD that hits home with me the most is your "Full Circle." It speaks to me & the struggles I find myself dealing with. It's given me renewed faith in God....& in love. You are in my prayers always. I hope you are feeling the 'love vibes' from all of us....may they heal you! Love you, Dan! ~ "Dotty"....Clairton, PA

You're in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you for a wonderful, happy new year. ~ Judi

Strange how music can touch. Twelve years ago I bought your album Nether Lands, second hand, and I was so moved. It makes me happy, and brings me back to the rockies in Canada. When I was there in 1990 I never had heard of you and your beautifull music. Isn't it wonderful that when I hear you now, I'm there again?? For me it's a miracle, time after time again. I spend much time every day with my hovawart-dog Djemmy in the woods where (lucky us) our house is and sometimes you just walk with us. I hope it's clear what I exactly want to say. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Your music means a lot to me !!!!!!!!"Changing Horses" and "The Reach" are my favorites. Mr.Fogelberg, today I heard of your illness and I wish you all the best. Going to send you strength. May 2005 bring you your health back !!! ~ Ingrid van Helmond, the Netherlands

Dan, I have grown up listening to you and you are a poetic genius. Every time I hear "the snow turned into rain" I think of my high school sweetheart. I'm only 23, but I cherish good music. You are in my prayers and may you have a Happy New Year. God Bless. ~ Erin

Dear Dan, I wish you all the best, good health and fast comeback to us. Please come to Poland for a concert - Polish fans are waiting! Happy New Year! ~ Zbig Belch, Poland

Dear Dan, My prayers for you continue to be for a complete recovery, and peace of mind for you and your family. You were on my mind today as I played with the iPod I got for Christmas....downloading all of the wonderful songs on your albums which are so dear to me after many years of listening to them again and again. The technology keeps changing, but your music stays with me and your voice feels as familiar as that of an old friend. I will continue to hold you and your family in my heart as you work to get better. You have my support, encouragement and love. Warm regards ~ Pam

May God shed his light on you and strengthen you daily. ~ Charley

Dan, You music has inspired, comforted, and entertained generations of fans in the years you have been performing. Your grateful fans all support you during this time of trial, and will hold you in our thoughts and prayers as long as you need us. May you fight the good fight and win this most important battle. My father died of cancer in 1987. Your music was one of the FEW musical commonalities he and I had. Your song "Leader of the Band" reminds me of my Dad to this day. Thank you for giving of yourself. Vaya con Dios, Dan. Get well soon. ~ Barry E. McClung, Kyle, Texas

Dan, Thanks for the music...I've been listening since 1975. I purchased Nether Lands again today and for a few moments on the way back to work I was taken back to a simpler time. In this year of sadness keep strong...Your music gives me a little reprieve in my own year from death and cancer. Thank you. ~ Shari H. Fort Worth TX

Dan, Your music is LIFE! I always seem to find something that relates to whatever is happening in my life, whether I'm ecstatically happy or melancholy. Being a native of Colorado, your music always "brings me home." I can't be there as much as I like, so when I'm feeling homesick, I put in one or your CD's. All the best to you, your family, and your recovery. Look forward to seeing you again soon...home at Red Rocks! ~ Kelli J. Russell, Colorado Native

Sending you the light to heal and or guide you through this discovery of yourself. Sending you the strength, the courage to "see" your place into the journey. Wishing for you the courage "to not have the answers" (especially if they don't come readily to you) and give yourself a break ALREADY, that you don't have to always be strong. You have given me the gift of your music, for this I am "someone else", than I was before I heard your poetry. Open your hands to wrestle YOUR cancer, or shake its hands and be at peace with it. ~ I. Dunn

Dear Dan, I've been a fan since the early 80's. I was so sorry to hear about your cancer. I had been wondering where you had been in the music genre. In my early 20's I'd brag and say I would marry you in a heart beat, and everyone who knew me believed that, and then I met my husband! I fell in love with your words, music & lyrics the first time I heard you. I just want you to know that I still love your music. Please keep writing and singing. It will help the healing process. I'm a pen & ink & watercolor artist myself, and I know that my art helps me escape and it's therapeutic as well! Please know that I'm a lifelong fan and wish you the best in healing and in life. Please keep the songs going! I'll be praying for you! Lifelong Fan ~ Mary Kaye Casaday

Dear Dan: I first discovered your music in the early 1970's. But it was when I went through a divorce and began raising my daughter on my own that I realized the strength of your songs. Your words and music carried me through many difficult times. I thank you for that. My sincere hope is that the words from your family, friends and fans will help carry you through this difficult time. Many blessings to you and your family. ~ Debbie in Winona MN

Dear Dan, hope everything is going well for you and your family. Haven't seen anything recent on your homepage. You are always in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless You. ~ Joe and Cheryl

As many have, I 'grew up' listening to your music. Funny though it may sound, there has always been a strong connection between events in my life and your music...as if we were all growing and living parallel lives. Thank you for the gift of your music and your spirit. Life would have been very different without it. May all the grace that God has to offer be yours. Sincerely ~ Kimberly

Dan - since Souvenirs I have kept track of your music with rapt attention and awe at your mastery of music and bearing of soul. You are an angel. My prayers are with you and yours for a complete and quick recovery. Keep your light shining bright. ~ J. Howell, Austin

My husband and I wish you the very best in your recovery . . . you are a treasure, and we hope you make it back to the road very soon. Best regards ~ Joanne and Ira Morrison

Dear Dan, I find so many things in life ironic. I was just telling a friend of mine about you and what a wonderful album Nether Lands is. I listened to that over and over again when it first came out as I just noticed in 1977. I also fell deeply in love with someone while listening to that album, the key word is deeply. This album to this day is absolutely one of my all time favorites. I decided today to look and see if you would be touring this year and where as I live in Mass. By knowing your music I know you are an inspiration to people and are guided. Dan I know you are going to get better because you are not the cancer. You are much bigger than the cancer. You are just having these symptoms to tell you to change your life. Much love ~ Petra

I don't know what to say other than that I have been a fan of yours for over 30 years. Your music touches me in a way no other artist can do. I have seen you in concert and hope to see you again in the future. My prayers are with you. Keep the faith. With love ~ Patty from New Hampshire

I have been a longtime fan...my thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep thinking those positive thoughts!!!! ~ Deborah P Pope

Dan, I was a senior in high school when Nether Lands was released and it still remains one of my favorite albums. In August of 1981, I took a cross country trip with two friends. While descending from the Continental Divide on Hwy 82 in Colorado (between Leadville and Aspen), the title track from Nether Lands came on the radio (how appropriate). I will never forget the moment. Thank you for sharing your music and talent. I wish you the very best during your recovery and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely ~ Billy H. Adkins in the North Georgia Mountains.

Tears fill our eyes as your songs fill our hearts. Thoughts of healing, recovery, love and family our sent your way to to comfort you. Thanks for all you have given us. ~ Lynnette from Kent Ohio

I hope that you and your family have been able to have a peaceful, happy Christmas.Your music has been so much a part of our lives in good times and in bad time----I hope that you realize how much your music has touched the lives of so many people. Now, all those people are trying to touch your life back with all our prayers.Looking forward to more of your fantastic music. Be Well ~ Rosemary & Jack, Waltham, MA

Dan, I am a recovering survivor, and all through my surgery and five-year medication and visits to my wonder oncologist, I have felt at peace. Our inner strength is what brings us through adversity. That's what has been my life's philosophy as a successful blind woman, and a role model for others. "Part of the Plan" is a song that says it all. It's all about the things we do along the way. We play your music on "The Acoustic Edge" on KCLC FM in St. Louis, Missouri, and I know our listeners wish you the best. ~ Naomi from St. Louis

Hi Dan - I, too, am thinking of you this holiday season. I'll be DJ'ing NY Eve and am sure I'll play "Same Old Lang Syne". I've been introducing my kids to your music. Whatever it is- 'Captured Angel' to 'Nether Lands' to 'Phoenix' to 'Innocent Age', they love it like I do. You made my college years better. Check that-- you've made my LIFE better. Your songwriting is stellar. Your lyrics are passionate, ring true, and are emotionally moving. Your musical instrumentation is superb. I'd rank you up with people like The Beatles as far as ground breaking musical ventures into the unknown. PLEASE get better, Dan. My world needs you. I want to see you in concert again. I need your new music. I know this will happen because God will be with you. Thank you again for what you've done for me. Peace.

May God's peace be with you and your family during this difficult time.
