"Dear Dan" Letters

March 2005

Dan, I was caught off guard by the news of your illness, and am still trying to process the complex emotional gamut I am experiencing. First let me say that you will be in my thoughts and prayers, as you battle your way back to wellness. I have considered you my best friend for most of my life, as your music and insight have filled so many places in my soul. You have touched so many lives with your wondrous gift; I hope that our prayers for your recovery can return that favor. I love you, my friend. We all do. All the best. ~ Tricia from Bloomington, Illinois

I have loved your music since I was first introduced to it in 1977. I have all of your LPs (yes, the big vinyl things!) and all of your CDs. Your music moves me no matter what mood I'm in. You have been with me through all of the ups and downs of my adult life and I cannot imagine a world without you and your special gift. My prayers will be with you constantly. Good luck and God speed. ~ Crissy, Mobile, AL

Dear Dan, good heartfelt wishes for you and your family at this time and for the future. I have been personally lifted and inspired by your magnificent music over so many of the years, especially in some troubled times. In many cases the music really has brought me through. I am glad now to have the opportunity to tell you this personally. Dan, I recently purchased The Wild Places, there is so much I identify with on the album. The best of luck to you, I know you will get through ~ Steve from Bedford, England

Hi Dan, I've enjoyed your music for many years! Happy thoughts to you and God bless! ~Jeff Adkins, Virginia Beach, VA

Hello Dan,I hope that everything is alright for you and your family. I have been one of your supporters since the first time I heard "Believe In Me" and of my big desires is to have the occasion to see you in concert. If you come to Quebec, I'll be there. Thanks for your beautiful songs. You make me happy. ~ Gérard(Gerry) Gagnon

Dear Dan, Since learning of your illness in the fall, I frequently visit this webpage and am encouraged by the prayers of many people on your behalf. Our stories are all very similar, what an impact you've had on a generation of people. My prayer is that your body is strong and recovering from your cancer and treatment plan, that your mind is free to create and write, and that your spirit is filled and renewed each morning that you awake. Your beautiful words and music inspire and continue to inspire. May God's Holy Spirit fill you this day and bring you his love, peace, and comfort. - May the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you His Peace - Numbers 6:24 ~ Pam

Dan, I am so sorry to hear of your illness. I discovered the news when I found your site looking for some history behind the song "Leader of the Band". I had always assumed you wrote it about your own father. You see, the song holds special meaning to me as well. My own father just passed away at age 83 from colorectal and lung cancer. He had retired as a public school band director after teaching for almost 50 years. It seems as though you knew my dad, too. He joined the Army in World War II, but he didn't let that stop the music as he played all during the war in the bands that existed at the bases in which he was stationed. He gave me, and everyone else he touched, the gift of music. My two sisters took different paths (much like the brothers in your song), but I continued my father's legacy and am still playing today...in my own big band, nearly 40 years after he taught me to play the trumpet. And I also like the words about earning "his love through discipline and a thundering velvet hand". That's MY dad! It's uncanny how similar the lyrics are to my relationship to my father. It's as if you wrote it about him as well. I've always thought of him every time I hear it and now it will have even more meaning. I will be reciting excerpts of the lyrics during my eulogy and then his step-daughter will sing it. It just fits. Anyway, I'm really sorry to hear of your health problems. I've always enjoyed your music and hope you can continue for a long time to come. Another "Living Legacy to the Leader of the Band" ~ Bob

Dear Dan, Your music was what inspired me to play acoustic guitar, write songs, and sing. A number of years ago I received an autographed picture from you, and it really picked me up as I had just had 2 heart attacks in the 3 months before I got it. It helped me keep my spirits bright, and still reach out to my music as I battled CIDP, a degenerative nerve disease somewhat like MS. You are in my family's prayers, and I just wanted you to know that you have touched many lives with your music and your kindness. ~ Bobby in TN

Dear Dan, I hope you are getting stronger and stronger. My father recently went through prostate cancer. I can feel your families' worries. You are in my prayers and I hope you can continue to shed love through your music. My husband and I miss spending those hot summer nights at Chastain Park in Atlanta singing along to all of our favorites. Get well soon. ~ Kelly in Atlanta

Just a note to wish you all the best that life can offer. My prayers are with you & your family. Your music has touched me greatly thru the years & if I've learned anything from your music it's that the best things in life aren't things. May God continue to bless you. ~ Teena Kilo

I have recently discovered Dan Fogelberg's music again after almost 15 years.I still love it as much now as I did back then. I wish him all the best in his recovery from his illness. All the best ~ Glenda in Sydney Australia.

Dan and Family: I am an Illinois girl and was saddened to hear about your illness but optimisitc that with support from family, friends, fans and medicine that you will recover. I have loved your music ever since I was sitting in the Auditorium theatre in Chicago, Illinois and heard you speak about your days in the college circuit playing music and rise to stardom. Your album "Home Free" was played many times when I was a teenager and especially love "To the Morning". I wish you well and know you must recover because who will continue to make the sweet and meaningful music that you have brought to my life and the lives of your fans. ~ Ellen from Deerfield, IL

I wish you all the best in your fight against Prostate Cancer. My father-in law was diagnosed back in 1986 and is now about to celebrate his 90th birthday. I wish the same for you and your family, that you have MANY more wonderful years to come. Hopefully you will find some type of message out of this experience to write into words . I'm sure you could take something that has not been so pleasurable and make it into a beautiful song. I miss your music and I know many others do too. I am 36 yrs. old and have grown up listening to and enjoying not only the melodies but more so the words and meanings behind them. Good Luck to you ~ Doreena Tompkins, Apopka Fl.

Just a short message to let Dan know his fans in Scotland (he does have them) are thinking of him. I personally love his music - it has helped me many a time, so I hope all the good wishes he and his family receive will help at this time. Love and Best Wishes ~ Alison Espy in Glasgow

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I have sung along with you for 30 years, going down the highway, or sitting in my dorm room. Especially fond of Home Free. Hope this finds you feeling better. God bless. ~ Becky Cox

Dan, I want you to know that the beauty of your music has been a positive force in my life for 20+ years.  I wish you well in your treatment procedures. I know it's a tough thing for you and everyone in your family to go through. I just wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You have been an inspiring artist that has always reached my soul with your music and lyrics. I could always relate to so the messages you have given us with your talent. I have missed not being able to see you in years in concert. I have followed your career since I was 18 years old in the early 70's and never stopped. I hope and pray for you and sincerely hope you win this fight, all of your fans are behind you completely. Good Wishes, Love and Faith ~ Julie Kaminski

Hey Dan, Best wishes on your recovery. I was sick myself two years ago, and my neighbor who was well into his nineties by that time, said to me, "don't worry, the first hundred years are the worst" !! Take care ~ Rick

Dan, I listened to "The Reach" on the way to work this morning, and that song just makes me feel so good, hearing the swell of the strings at the end, and hearing the pictures you painted so beautifully. "The Innocent Age" album brings back such fond memories of college for me, in addition to being just great music. I pray that you are able to draw strength, peace, and healing from all your fans, and from daily listening to just a little of the wonderful music you've given the world. Thank you, and get well soon! ~ Bill Romer, St. Louis, MO

Dearest Daniel - For you I pray that The White Light of The Holy Spirit surrounds you, heals you, protects you, and keeps you safe and free from harm. I pray that God gives you, your wife and family strength and courage to overcome your challenge. I am grateful to God that you have Jean in your life to love you, comfort and care for you. Know that you are loved by many. ~ Martha...Ocean Springs, Mississippi

Dan - My prayers are with you in your illness. My husband and I were stationed in Scotland with the Navy twice and did much hiking together -When I heard "Since You've Asked", it became our song - it spoke to me in a way I have rarely encountered in a song. Our best wishes and hang in there. ~ Kim from Virginia

Dan, may God give you the strength to continue your battle. May He bless you through each day, and always remember you are in the thoughts and prayers of many. Much love ~ Marvin Matthews, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Good day, Dan! I've enjoyed your music tremendously for many years. Your songs bring me peace, joy, deep thoughts, tears and smiles. They warm my heart, and touch my soul. THANK YOU for using your creative gifts for ALL of us. Wishing you a speedy recovery, and many happy days with Jean. LOVE to see you back in Dallas one day soon! Warmest regards ~ Julie Ann

Mr. Fogelberg, I look forward to reading about your full recovery from your battle with cancer in People magazine very soon. :) My wife and I are long time fans who saw you at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor in the late 1980's. I recently have been pulling out my old record albums and realized that I have a huge investment in your music. I bought your most recent CD last summer but I really enjoyed the 1970's & 80's when I would lay around reading the album liner notes and learning to play "Part Of The Plan" and "Nexus" on guitar along with you while I listened to your great albums. Our best to you and your family. ~ Geff & Nancy Phillips, Plymouth Michigan

Dan - Having read some of these letters my thoughts are this; you will probably never realize just how immense your music has touched others. It has gotten countless through rough times in their lives-- including mine. The helplessness I feel is that there is nothing I can do to help you through your trial. The prayers for God's will for your life are all we can offer. God gives each of us a gift to use for others. We are the lucky ones when you give that gift of your music to us. He is always with you in the good and the bad and has promised never to abandon you. ~ Rick from Wisconsin

Dan, after reading through the many best wishes that people have sent you, it's hard to say anything new. I first heard your music visiting friends in Denver in the early 70's. I was born in Denver in 1953 and lived in a lot of different places in Co. I moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1969 and have lived here in paradise all these years. You have been with me through all that time. Like everyone, your music has helped me through good and tough times. My prayer for you and your family is that the Lord would return to you all the love and encouragement you gave to all of us with a hundred fold return. With all the prayers I have seen for you I have no doubt you will be fine. God richly fill you with His Presence .....love ya' man ~ Bill Platz

Dan, You are in our daily prayers. My four year old daughter, Shannon, is also fighting cancer. I find strength and hope in my faith, and on the shoulders of my friends and family. We love you Dan, and are looking forward to hearing your music again. We pray for your continued progress toward good health.

Dear sir, I live in the UK, and have listened to and sung your music, as I myself sang in a rock band. The joy your music has given me and my friends in the band is the best. I think my favourite song was "Morning Sky." So sorry to hear you are unwell. I hope someone can make you well again. And you can come to the UK, so we can come to see you. May your God go with you. Very best regards. ~ Allen M.

Hi Dan! My fiancee, Laura, and I had the privilege of hearing and seeing you in concert at Casino Rama, in Orillia, Ontario in late 2003 (your first time playing in Canada in several decades, you told us). It has been said that "The highest purpose in the universe is the creation of an effect" and the effects you created on us on that wonderful night will remain with us for the rest of our lives; we are still unable to express in mere words the sheer aesthetic of it. Thank you for the magic - our thoughts are with you! ~ Michael Biggins, Meaford, Ontario

Dan, like another well wisher, I also discovered your music while a student at the University of Michigan in the late 70's. I have been a huge fan ever since and was so very sorry to hear of your illness. I shall keep you and your lovely wife in my thoughts and prayers. Be strong!

Dan - We're missing you. Can't wait to hear your spirit rise and sing again. ~ Robert in Sacramento

Dear Dan, I was floored to hear that you were diagnosed with prostate cancer. Like so many of your fans I felt the need to pay tribute to you. I have a small custom picture framing shop and framed the sheet music for "Missing You" (my all-time favorite) surrounded by small pictures of all your album covers. I have it proudly displayed in my shop. When I look at it I smile and remember to say a few words to the "big guy" on your behalf. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Get well soon, because as your biggest fan, I'm not giving up on the notion that one day I will meet you. With very sincere best wishes ~ Cindy, Ludington, Michigan

Dear Dan, Godspeed to you...I can't put into words the gut wrenching things your sweet songs have nursed me through. Somehow you touch us all of us to the core. So hopefully all these wishes and hopes for you will help you through a tough time. I had the tickets in my hand to see you in Coral Springs,Fla. I have a feeling you'll be back here. Funny how life kicks us in the butt when we least expect it! You have my love, prayers, healing thoughts and I will greet each sunrise with knowing you're a winner! ~ Cherie in S Fla.

Dan, I have been a fan of yours since your first album came out. We have been to every one of your concerts in Nashville, Tn. I was so sorry to hear about your prostate cancer. My Dad had the same advanced cancer you have, and he had surgery 12 years ago and is still cancer free. I have him taking a nutrional supplement from the company Mannatech. It is the Ambrotose granules. There is scientific proof that this product workls to repair cells. His PSA was 7.2 when he started taking it and is .006 now which is barely detectable. Go to Mannatech.com. I have been praying and thinking about you. Just have faith you will be healed. Your loyal fan ~ Lisa Wilbur

Dan, Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanks for all you have done to enrich so many lives, including mine. ~ Rick Tingstrom, Mountain View, CA

Dan, There are so many things I would love to say to you, so many questions I would ask....I think your soul is wise beyond your years and God has given you such a wonderful gift that you actually recognized and did with what God intended. Thank you for that. I can think of so many things I have gone through in my life that are book marked in my soul with a song you allowed us to share. Yours was my first concert and due to one of those I got my first hubby to move out...I had a date with Dan....YUK YUK. He didnt know it was a concert ticket. I sang your songs to both my boys as I rocked them, danced my first dance with my true love at our wedding in 1998, and sang your songs when he died 3 years ago. No matter what, the gift you give us with your stories make us laugh, cry, comfort and give us some very wise advice that I still follow (lessons learned). I know there are many fans like myself that are praying for the Lord to hold you and your family in his arms and give you all the strength you need to make it down the path life leads you on now. Dan I am praying for you and all those that you love and hope that this note will find you getting stronger every day. God bless you all and know that you are in our hearts. ~ Margie Johnson

I just wanted to add my wishes for your continued recovery and strength during this process. Your music has sustained me, and lifted me and calmed me throughout my life. I discovered you while house cleaning as a teenager, and have continued to listen and celebrate your talent. I also had the pleasure of seeing you live at Chastain Park in Atlanta a few years back. Some of the audience members were not terribly respectful, but for this girl, it was the night of a lifetime. May God bless you and keep you all. My prayers are with you every day. Most sincerely ~ Jill Pisano

Dan, I sit back and think to the days as a struggling musician how I would destroy the vinyl LP's I had of your music in effort to learn to play your songs note for note to be able to entertain others in the years I worked the bar/restaurant circuit in New York. I have been a fan for 25 years and have always been in awe with the talent you possess not only with your song writing but of the many instruments you play in your recordings. If you asked me which one of your songs was my favorite, without hesitation I would say "Leader of the Band".

Like your Father, my Dad had a love for music, and as a young man he played the 4 string tenor guitar and he never did anything with the gift for music that he had. He passed the gift of musical ability to 2 of his 4 sons, myself being one of them. We see this gift 3 generations later. My relationship with my Dad was not close when I was young until the day I had started playing local taverns and restaurants and we sat at dinner one night talking, and I told him I needed a new guitar and an amplifier. After dinner he said let's go down to the music store and see what they have. We got there and I pick out a Guild solid body electric and a Fender deluxe twin reverb amp .He put a deposit on it for me and the following day he took money from his savings (which wasn't much) and paid for my equipment in cash. After that he and I became very close. He came to see me at every gig I went out on. And for the 1st time in my life, he was proud of what I was doing with my life. My Dad was taken from us with lung cancer in 1981. A few months after his passing, you released "Leader of the Band". I played it for my Mother and brothers and we all cried that night. So I want to thank you for that song and though it was written for your own Father, it brings back fond memories of the years I spent with mine and the memories of seeing him listening to and enjoying the great names in music he listened to such as Glenn Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, and the later greats, Chet Atkins, Tony Matolla, Perry Como, etc.

I am sad to say, I have never had the privilege and the opportunity to come hear you live. Today I was sitting here at home listening to one of your recordings while I was on the PC and it struck me to do a search on the net to see if you had a website in hopes of finding some info on your next tour. So here I am at thelivinglegacy.net to discover your latest tour has been cancelled due to an illness you have been in treatment for. My heart goes out to you and I will keep you in my prayers for God to put his healing hand on you. And I hope to have the privilege to see you live some day soon. God Bless! ~ Paul Zavalick, Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Dear Dan, I had no idea. I will pray for you, your family and friends. Many years have gone by since your music first became a part of my soul. I'll never forget the first record of yours that I owned. It was "Captured Angel". I have always treasured that record and still have it to this day. My brother whom I was very close to had gone away to college and I missed him dearly. When he came home for Christmas that year he gave me "Captured Angel" as a gift. We listened to it together many times during that Christmas break. It was the last time I ever really felt close to him. He graduated from Cornell, worked as a scientist for a while, and then moved to Guatemala. It's been 20 years since I have seen him but...just today I put on your music, laid back, closed my eyes and flew back home to that Christmas of long ago. I can't express how your music touches me to this day. Thank you for being my mentor. I wish you all the best. Please know that I have and will always love you. All my strength I give to you, your wife and friends. ~ Cynthia

Dan, You have been an inspiration to me for over 25 years. Without knowing it, you have have taught me to sing the harmony! Your music has been motivational and uplifting to me through so many circumstances in my life. Through the insight and personal feelings you share, I have always felt as though I almost know you. I look forward to every new release, to enjoy the part of you that you share with those of us who love you. My thoughts and prayers will be with you every day. Maybe in this way, I can give back some of what you have given me. Until the next release ~ Susan Smith-Brown, Overland Park, KS

Mr. Fogelberg, Within the past month I was diagnosed with advanced malignant melanoma. Throughout some of my treatments, I listened to your most recent album Full Circle. It was a comfort and an inspiration, especially the song, "Icarus Ascending" -as so many other fans have recognized, you truly have the gift of understanding the human condition. I have been a lifelong fan and just recently narrated a recent trip to Mr. Rainier with the music from Nether Lands. Throughout the past 25 years you have been part of my wedding ("Longer"), births, travels, celebrations and struggles. I plan on making you part of my therapy as I take on this next challenge. As a fellow cancer battler, I wish you the best in your fight. Beat this monster! Write your music! Continue to touch our lives with your gift! Sincerely ~ K. Roberts, Sugar Grove, Ohio

I am hoping you are healing so we can all see you do what you do best. SING!! I last saw you in Oregon at the Sokol Blosser vineyard playing for a Save the Trout concert. I was in Portland for a bead conference and was so excited that you were around also. You made me laugh so much at that show especially when you said you loved trout with butter and almonds. You played beautifully and it was a great show and a wonderful night I will always remember. I was with my childhood friend who had flown in from California. Thank you and I can hardly wait for more of those special nights with you singing. Please be well ~ Marcia from Boston

What a gift you have shared with us. I have been touched and inspired by your music for more years than I care to admit. It took me 20 years to be able to make it to a live concert in Deer Valley, and it was well worth the wait.My prayers are with you. ~ Valerie D. Salt Lake City

Hi Dan! It amazes me how you still get these messages from all of us, me included. I love your music, or should I say your poetry. As an Irish man, I grew up with U2, Christy Moore, Thin Lizzy and all that comes out of my small country. Yours was an exception to the "Irish Equation". As I'm writing this this I´m listening to U2´s "Sometimes You Can´t Make It On Your Own". Dan,you need us and we need you. Please forgive me Dan, or indeed any of Dan´s fans that may read this on me quoting another artist, but .." you don´t have to go it alone..". We´re with you, mister, every step of the way. You take care now and all the very best from a humble fan who now lives in Seville,Spain. ~ Johnny Good

Your music has been a part of my life for soooooo long now. I can't tell you how often I pop a Dan Fogelberg CD into my player... it's amazing to me how I always come back to the songs that mean so much to me. And yes, I keep watching for something in the news to let me know how you are doing. Whether the light be the moon's, the stars' or the sun's, I wish for it to reach you, heal you, and warm you on your darkest days. -- Kim Golding, Tacoma, WA

Dan, I have been listening to your music for well over 25 years, from the early days in Rockford, Il. I must let you know that your music has been a lifeline to me during some very desperate years. You are a true musician in every sense of the word, as your music comes from your heart, whether angry, happy, sad, or love. I am very very sad to hear of your illness, as I missed your concert in Rockford, and at Navy Pier, and would like to be able to continue to attend your concerts. I must let you know that in many ways your music has saved my life and for this I am forever grateful, and will be your fan forever, And I hope to be able to listen to your music for many many years to come. My prayers are with you always. ~ Mary R.

Dan, my husband and I have been fans for almost 30 years now. We've been married for almost 14 years and I don't believe a week goes by that we haven't had a "Dan Fogelberg" night, just hanging out listening to your music. Now our children look forward to listening (twin girls - Age 5). Thanks for all the beautiful songs and wonderful memories. This e-mail is to wish you a safe and speedy recovery, you are literally in our thoughts and prayers always. Here's to future memories!!! Love ~ The Hochenberger family

You made me learn how to play piano, and drums, and sing, and believe in things that I never imagined. Your music is part of my soul, and always will be. My daughters love you, my wife and I love you, and we know you will be back because my daughters have to experience you at Wolf Trap in DC -- to hell with the curfew !!! Get well brother.

Mr. Fogelberg - I will never forget the day my college roommate, Mamie, played your album for me. I was instantly hooked. Thank you for sharing your gift with me for so many years. May God bless you during this time and surround you and your family with his angels of comfort and peace. ~ Cheryl in Tennessee

Dear Dan, I am a musician living at Lake Tahoe California. I have been playing your songs solo and in bands since the 70's. I also used to work for John Carruthers Guitar Repair in Los Angeles in the mid 80's, and had the honor of helping to "set up" your guitars on occasion. Although you have seen me (I delivered a few of your guitars to studios and rehearsal halls), we have never met. I have been meaning to send you my best wishes for a swift and complete recovery for a while now. Today seemed like a good day to do it. I have a solo acoustic gig tonight, and I will close my eyes and think positive, healing thoughts of you while I sing some of your songs. Get well! ~ Sheldon Felich

Dear Dan, I have to take this opportunity to tell you that your music remains a wonderful part of my life. It defined my teenage years and was the background music when I was establishing who I was at the time. When I married, I lost so much of myself that the marriage ended in divorce. I began listening to your music again just find that part of me that was gone. During the divorce, I especially listened to your Exiles album and your words helped me through a painful period. Your music reminds me of what I love about myself and it has been a centering force throughout my adult years. For that I am very grateful. I wish so much for you to be healthy and happy. Beyond that, I wish you peace. ~ Amy E. Crates

Dan - I used to listen to Phoenix over and over again. I've been missing your music and just yesterday pulled my album out. Yes, I'm from the 70's and still have your album. I listened to you in concert here in Knoxville, Tennessee; just you and your guitar. It was such an awesome concert. I closed my eyes while listening to you. That had to be the best concert that I've ever been to. I know that you'll pull through this experience even stronger. My thoughts are with you and your family. May God touch you with his healing spirit. ~ Robin Parris, Knoxville, TN

Heal, Amigo.......this tired old world still needs you, your spirit, your heart. There simply is no one out here ready or able to take your place. Keep well, much peace ~ Mark Helsel

Dan, I saw you in Houston 15 years ago and could not sit for the whole concert... much to the dismay of people behind me, I'm sure. I was so honored to be in your presence. May you find peace that only Christ can give. Today there will not be a moment when God does not care for you. Blessings ~ Candy

You have always been an inspiration to me since the early 70's in Colorado when I first saw you in concert. Since that time I have gone to see you every time you were near in concert. On of my favorites was the concert in the Woodlands when you had the singer from Firefall which was such a blessing because I saw them at Ebbets Field in Denver so many years ago. You have always blessed my heart in a way that no artist has ever done. Through the years it seems that your music is written on the same path of my own life. Today as a Christian I see that God has directed your writing. You will beat Cancer no doubt all you have to do is believe in your healing. Love to you and your family. ~ DeAnne - Woodlands, Texas (former Colorado)

Dan, Prayers and positive thoughts are sent your way from all of your fans in the Interlochen and Gaylord area. (Yes, we know how you got your middle name...) Your music inspires us. Please be well. ~ Christine Hoose

Dear Dan, You have been my favorite singer, favorite writer, and idol since I was in college in the 78-82. My first album was Phoenix and then I bought every other album you ever released. I saw 2 of your concerts in Austin, Texas in the early 80s. I wish you the best. I look forward to many more years of music. I also look forward to seeing you on tour again. May God Bless you and your family. ~ Steve Sanderfer

Dear Mr. Fogelberg: I was a fan of yours before I even knew it. When I was in high school in Arkansas, I dated a young man who used to "spin the records" for the high school dances. During the warm-up sessions prior to the dances, he would always play this one record that I loved upon first hearing but foolishly never thought to ask who it was. A few years later while in college at the University of Denver, I heard the same song coming from my neighbor's dorm room, and raced over to her door, knocked until she answered, and asked like a mad woman, "Who IS that?" She responded, thankfully, rather than slamming the door, saying, "That's Dan Fogelberg and the song is Nether Lands." Since that time and over the years, your music has been a constant in my life, and throughout my travels and different careers and stages in my life, I managed to make my way to your concerts in Denver (to support Gary Hart--yes, way back when), Memphis, and now in Seattle--at both the Woodland Park Zoo and at the Pier. I've gone from having your music on records and cassette tapes to toting it around on my Ipod. Your music inspired me in my recovery from some serious health issues of my own way back when, and I hope that my good wishes and those of all your fans will see you through this difficult time and into a rapid and continued recovery. Thank you, and all my best wishes from our here in the Pacific Northwest ~ Nancy in Everett, Washington

Keep up the positive spirit, meditate to light energy, positive thought. Best wishes. You make beautifull music ~ Paulus Verwey

Dear Dan, I want to let you know that you are in my prayers as you battle cancer. I truly wish you only the best... I had the chance to speak with you in the Quad Cities about 11 years ago. You were such a kind, down-to-earth person; I remember thinking, "Wow, here's a guy who followed his dreams and is doing what he loves." It inspired me to do the same and I returned to school to become a teacher. In fact I wrote a paper for a course and called it "A Reach to Teach." Corny, huh? Anyway, thank you for all you've given to us through your music and kindness. ~ Kevin

Hi Dan, I have been a fan of you for many years. We hope you feel better from the cancer and hope that you can come to Sweden and play sometimes in the future. We are all with you here in south of Sweden.~ Kent Eriksson

Dan - My prayers and thoughts are with you! Keep the faith - God is good. ~ Terry from PA

I have been listening to Dan since I was a little boy in the 70s.His music has inspired me so much. One of my favorite songs is "Believe In Me" from his Greatest Hits album, probably the most beautiful song I have ever heard. I wish Dan a speedy recovery. I will be prayin for ya. ~ Eric from Arkansas

Dear Dan, I was sorry to hear of the lonely struggle you face dealing with the ugly demon such as cancer. There are many that can relate to the struggle. I have seen the effects that cancer can take not only on the body but also on the soul and spirit. You have and are a tremendous spirit. Stay true to that and don't let that demon take that away from you. You can do it and beat it. I have never written to anyone like you before but I felt compelled to tell you that my thoughts are with you and that I will light a candle for you today. I'll keep it lit and pray for your swift recovery. God Bless ~ Rosemary

Just a note of what Dan means to me. I have listened to his music for 30 years. I love his music. I want to unite with all who love "the living legacy" with all their hearts. I will unite in prayer for our Dan. Dan, we love you. We know God will hear our prayers. Brothers and sisters let's pray for Dan's recovery. Love you, Dan ~ Albert Tamayo, Texas

Dan, Still thinking of you. Hope your recovery is going well. I was devastated when I first heard of your illness, but am hopeful that you are doing fine and will be back to create more beautiful pieces of music as only you can do. Peace & Love ~ Jennifer in Illinois

Dear Dan, I have loved you music since the 70s and in 1982 walked down the aisle to marry my wife of 23 years with "Longer" playing in the background. You will always be in my thoughts. Wishing you a speedy recovery. ~ Norm Ephraim, Boston

Think positive, all things are possible. Thank you for the beautiful music.

Dan, Your music has meant so much to us over the years. I remember quite vividly skiing the mountains of New Mexico listening to Nether Lands, my roommate putting "To the Morning" on the turntable to wake to in college, a friend showing up at his house with a copy of The Innocent Age the day it was introduced and listening to "Tullamore Dew" while traveling in the Appalachians. We are very sorry to learn of your illness and hope you have a full and speedy recovery. May God bless you and protect you! ~ Steve and Maria Taylor, Charlotte, NC

Dan, you have touched my heart for many years. I am originally from Boulder. I remember seeing you in a hardware store, but refrained from making contact, in respect of your privacy. Good luck and good wishes. I pray for your victory. Peace ~ Ken Martin

Dan, I have been a fan since the 70's. I remember the first concert at the Auditiorium theater (Chicago) - just you, a grand piano and a bunch of 6 & 12 string guitars..amazing talent! I learned guitar playing along to your albums.I performed "Longer" at my brother's wedding. I taught my son to play guitar and every time I play "Leader of the Band", my wife wells up with tears! Also, as a Urologist I have treated many patients with prostate cancer and it can be beaten. I do not know the details of your disease (nor is it any of my business) however, I wish you the best ~ Dr. Michael Donnelly: Beloit Wisconsin

Have been a fan since the 70s. Never have been to a concert but was hoping to see you. That's why I went to your site. So sorry to hear about your cancer but I am encouraged by your letter. My father had it too and beat it! My prayers are with you and your family. I know you can beat it!

Dan-Your music and your concerts are woven through my life. I'm from the "Old School" having seen you perform since the very early days, lucky that I was at the Greek Theater in Berkeley so many years ago on the Netherlands tour when you and Tim W. came out and gave us a great show. The Magic and Spark of Energy that you have put out to us all- though your music and perfomances has been so steady, so comforting. I send you thoughts of comfort and healing. Having just relased my first CD of my own music I'm thinking that you were so instrumental in my development as a songwriter, for this I thank you and wish you Peace. Sincerely ~ Nicholas Vitale

Hi Dan, I hope whomever receives this will forward it to you. As you are aware, your music has meant much to many. I only saw you in live performance once. That was at the Boutwell Auditorium, in Birmingham, Alabama. That must of been somewhere in the mid-70's. You played solo for the first part of the program, and then were joined by your backup band "Fools Gold" a smashing band in their own right. To say least, I and my wife, were both enthralled. In mortality, I don't see how a performance like that one could have been improved upon. We still esteem it as the best concert ever attended. Perhaps, in the next life, better music can be made! ~ Don Jones

Dan - still thinking of you. May these messages of love and support find you healthier each day. Peace, my Friend. ~ Linette in St. Louis

There is nothing growing in you but the goodness of God. Stand in the warm light of this truth. Thinking of you ~ Yvonne Quinlan-Pierce

Hi Dan, I don't speak English very well, but I'd like to send my thoughts to you and your family. You can't imagine how much you have been important for me and overall for my sister who died in 1986. Your songs were vey comforting to her until the end. Be sure that there' s an angel in the Heaven, her name is Marisa and she is praying for you. Be strong! ~ Federico-Rome -Italy

Hey Dan - I just found out that you were ill. My prayers are with you. You seem to be a positive person so I'm truly thinking you'll be ok. I first saw you live in 1979 at St. Johns University in Queens New York and I've been a fan since. Please know that all that know of you are sincere in our good thoughts and prayers for you. Keep your chin up and with a little luck we'll see you out and about in short time. Good luck to you and your family. Take care from a fellow working musician. ~ Kenny Forgione of the band "Wonderous Stories", NY

Dan, I've been a big fan since the 70's and wanted you to know that my prayers are for you and thoughts are with you. On behalf of 105.7 The Fox and 93.3 LiteFM in Columbus, Ohio, all our best for your speedy recovery and an even speedier return to our town. Thanks ~ Russ Egan

To Dan Fogelberg and Family, My husband and I have seen you here in concert at Chastain Ampitheatre in Atlanta, Georgia several times. I have been an avid fan of yours since the 70's. My husband on the other hand was into a different type of music until he saw you perform live in Atlanta. He was blown away as I have always been with your words of love, encouragement and strength. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and we hope to see you soon in Atlanta. My daughter is 25, my son, 21, and I would love to pass on to them the wonderful music, words and beauty you bring to the stage. Blessings to you.... hope to see you soon ~ Debbie and Curtis Sorrow

Dan, may God bless you and heal you. I have loved your music since I first heard you in the 1970s. You work has been such a blessing to me and to many others. Take care.

Dan, I am a huge fan. Have been since 1975. My prayers are with you.

I was unaware of your diagnosis. You have given my family and myself such an unbelievable connection that I wanted to offer our thoughts, prayers and best wishes as a family to you for a complete recovery. Here is a little history. In 1989 my wife and I wed and chose "Longer" as our wedding song. In the last part of 1993 we had the opportunity to attend your concert at the Valley Forge Music Fair while my wife was carrying our first child (who was born in April 1994). It was a boy. I would always sing to my son before bedtime. My father passed in the end of 1995. I always chose "Leader of the Band" as the bedtime song after that point. I guess it had a message in it for me as well that I wanted to pass on. My second son was born in May of 1998. To date he sings it with me before bedtime. He even requests it. He is six now. Unrelated, back in December of 2004, we had an opportunity to see a band called the Rick Recht Band. Even though it was his own music, his style was pleasantly reminiscent to me of yours. After the concert I expressed my pleasure of listening to him and asked him who was his inspiration, he mentioned he loved the music of Dan Fogelberg. I was not surprised at the answer as I knew from his performance. In summary, your talent & inspiration is spread a long way and I want to thank you. It wasn't only the songs I mentioned above but "Magic Every Moment" is another my children enjoy hearing. You see you inspire not only the classic age group but your legacy lives on in my children. Your music will continue for generations. It is timeless. You were given a great gift and you took hold of it and gave it to us. For that I say THANK YOU. Please get well soon. ~ Alan Tate

Dan, My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are my all time favorite singer.I have spent many, many hours with your sweet songs. I am looking forward to your "return"concert in Colorado after you beat this. Godspeed my friend. ~ Michael Goll

May the love you have shown in your music and have brought to others bring you full circle into wellness. God Bless.

My sincerest wishes for a full recovery. I found this website while I was searching the internet to see if you were back on tour yet. Two years ago, my husband and I, along with two of our friends attended your concert as well as James Taylor's concert at Chastain Park in Atlanta Georgia. To me this is the biggest compliment I can give your music- your concert outdid J.T.'s by a mile. I thought he hung the moon before I saw you in concert. So much life and emotion went into your show. I had tickets ordered for your show again last fall but then I was notified that you had fallen ill and wouldn't be able to perform. Needless to say, I was disappointed and I greatly missed not having that opportunity to hear and see you again but I realize how tough the battle with cancer can be on a person's body and soul. Hang in there and keep your spirits up. I don't think God is done with you on Earth yet (even though I think you would be an excellent addition to his Heavenly choir). Once again, I'm looking forward to getting my J.T. tickets- but I sure wish you were ready to come back and sing to ME and everybody else again. Get well SOON! We love you here in Georgia. ~ Yolonda Shelnutt

May you master this as you mastered your music. My lifelong ambition has been to come to the US and see and hear you play live. We still have many years ahead in which we can make my wish come true.

Good Luck Dan. ~ Jon Carter, Berkshire UK

Dear Dan, I am thinking about you right at this moment as I listen to one of your cd's. You have the most beautiful voice, and your songs are truly inspiring. If you ever have a concert in Kentucky, I hope to attend so I can get your autograph, and I would treasure it the rest of my life!! I've been a faithful fan of yours for many years. God Speed and take care Dan, and I'll keep on praying for your recovery. ~ Mary Jane Miles, Kentucky

Dear Dan, sorry to have heard of your illness. I have been a loyal fan of your work since the first time I saw you in concert somewhere around 1973. I have been fortunate enough to see your shows 4 times since then. As a guitar player myself having been heavily influenced by your work I want to say thank you. God bless you, and don't lose heart. Remember that playing music is the best medicine. ~ Al Davis, Edmond, Oklahoma

Dear Dan, You are in our thoughts and prayers for a healthy recovery and a cancer free future. You helped me more than you know quite a few years ago. I'm 48 years old now with a husband and two beautiful daughters, but I have been a fan of yours since my teen years. In my late twenties and early thirties, I developed panic attacks as a result of a traumatic experience. Over the years it became very difficult for me, facing my fears every day. I remember every time you would come to St. Louis, I would wish so badly that I could see you in concert, but I couldn't deal with the crowds. Finally, I decided to take back my life for myself and the sake of my husband and children. I thought I could find my ticket stubs, but I think the year was 1992 or '93, you were appearing at our outdoor theater, Riverport. I had been seeing a wonderful therapist and this was a test for me. I wanted to see you in concert after so many years of being a fan and not being able to see you in person. My dear husband bought the tickets and under no pressure. I took baby steps to that concert. It was wonderful and so were you! It was one of the most freeing experiences of my life. It was a major life change for me. I knew if I could face a crowd like the one at your concert, I could start taking control of my life once more. I will never forget that night - hot August night with a sky full of stars and a warm breeze. I always feel empowered by your music..and I needed that concert so badly. I will always have a place in my heart for you. You were like an old friend, calling me to come out of the fog I was in..remembering my stronger, younger, fearless days.

You are part of our family. I still tear up when I hear "Leader of the Band" reminding me of my own dear father. And I remember explaining to my own daughters just what "Run for the Roses" meant. I started with your albums and now I listen to you on my MP3 player while I exercise. Times change, don't they? Your music still empowers me and reminds me of younger days. So please, Dan, know that we are praying for you and your dear wife, knowing that you two will have many happy years ahead of you. We all need you to keep making that sweet music. Thank you so much. Sincerely ~ Melanie Skaggs

Dear Dan, I have always enjoyed your music. I had the opportunity to see you five or six years ago at the Mann Music Center for an outside concert in Philadelphia. You were extraordinary. You have given so much to others with your insightful lyrics. I am very saddened to hear of your recent bout with cancer. I wish you peace and a speedy recovery. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ~ Lorraine, Philadelphia PA

Dear Dan, Your spirit within your music has brought many of us together over the years. I think your love of all things natural and God-inspired, have been given back to this earth through your music. May God give to you all that He can give to get you back to inspiring His people. Thoughts, wishes and prayer to you and your loved ones through all of us out here that will await your magical return to inspiring our lives.Come back to Chastain FIRST! ~ Brenda Lorenzo, Atlanta, GA.

Dear Dan, I am so sorry to hear about your illness. Please know that I am holding you in my heart and am sending positive energy your way. My husband and I have listened to your music for the past 30+ years and feel nothing but utter respect and admiration for your talent as a song writer, poet, musician and singer. We've seen you in concert in both Kansas City and in Atlanta and cherish those events. In a way, your music has woven itself into our 30+ year marriage and has enhanced it as we have so much enjoyed listening your music together. Thank you for all you have given us. You are an exceptional talent and have contributed so much. I have complete faith you will defeat this illness and will soon be sharing your gift again. ~ Lyn Rebel, Lenexa, Kansas

Dan, I check in often to see how things are going for you and I am constantly reminded of the overwhelming goodness of people. So many of us love you and your beautiful words and music. I wish you and your family the very best and pray that your recovery is going well . May you always be surrounded by love. ~ Erika, Middletown,CT

My prayer is that your complete recovery will only be the beginning of your best work yet! Thank you for the blessings you have given us and now may you experience the blessings of all those people you have never known showering you with healing. ~ Jill Brown, Amarillo, Texas

Hi Dan, I have been praying very strongly for you. I really hope that you can feel the power of our prayers! With Holy Week approaching,I always lift up what ever suffering I am going through to Jesus with his suffering. I then can rejoice more in his resurrection and find new life, and hope.

I really miss hearing about you and preparing to see you on tour. I am very happy that I got to see you at least 2 more times in concert after my 8 years of exile!!! I guess we all go through that stuff from time to time. Your music and concerts have been such a tremendous blessing and part of my life, not to mention the times I have met you, ( LIFE CHANGING MOMENTS). I guess it is true what they say, it is the moments we remember most in life, not days or weeks, but moments! Yes it is true, "There's a magic every moment" I love that song! I believe that one of the greatest things about seeing you perform, is that moment when you play the first few notes of a song, and there is this part of me that wants to begin yelling for JOY and another part of me that wants to stay completely quiet, as not to miss one note or word of the song, to sit reverently and quietly, to cherish each note and word, as if to hold on to it forever in my heart and mind. I wish you your happiest Easter ever! Much Love and Peace to you and yours, Dan ~ Laura Boughner, Richmond

Hey Dan, Well, there is not much more to add than what these other fine folks have already said. I think I could be friends with many of them as they seem to reflect the same feelings about you and your music that I do. But it just goes to show that just because we don't hear your music played much on contemporary radio now, or even in the old days, you still managed to reach the hearts and minds of many, me included. I know you always filled the halls of every concert I've ever attended, whether by yourself or with a band. You have touched the hearts of many people, but that is what I think you were meant to do. Thank you for allowing us to experience your gifts, and I myself have learned to follow the path of heart, as opposed to the path of convenience. I hope you and your family are well, and I think I would be safe in saying there are thousands of people looking forward to seeing and hearing from you again. The Creator Spirit will light your way, and see you through. I know we will see you again! Hope you're on your feet again soon! ~ Mike

Dear Dan and Family, Over the years, your music has been pure blessing to me...you have the giftings and heart of a poet. Not many artists can evoke emotion that transcends time... I'm praying for a full, miraculous recovery for you and that your best songs, yet...may rise up out of these hard places...God's Richest Blessings to you and your family...~ Patricia Wood

Dan, bought one of your cd's today and have been playing it over and over. I have been a fan of yours since 1970 and your music always takes me back to when I was 10 (I'm now 44). What a gift you have been given. The gift of song. Do you ever think of just how many people you touch with your beautiful lyrics and voice? Fight strong and true and leave the rest to the universe. You will be ok. Be at peace. God bless and thank you for giving us a piece of your beautiful soul through your beloved music. I will be praying for you. ~ An Australian fan

Dan, I've heard it said that suffering from a serious illness makes one more aware of the precious nature of the lives we are given. We become fully cognizant of the love in our hearts, the rising and setting sun, the gentle and glorious passing of the seasons and the incomparable beauty of the world we find ourselves in. As terrible as your struggle must be, it is my prayer that you are enveloped in God's grace and peace and are secure in the knowledge that God is with you every step of the way. May you experience the full measure of blessings that are reserved only for those who look their own mortality straight into the face. God is all powerful and over all. He hears our prayers. You are safe and secure in his hand -- no matter what. Hang in there, buddy. It's almost time to sail again! ~ Mark

Dan, I'm an Italian fan who discovered you and your music last year, thanks to the four cd box set "Portrait". What a revelation, plenty of GREAT songs and music. It would be great to see you live in Italy, but I will consider coming to the US of A to see you live on your next tour (because you WILL do many tours in the future!!!!!). GET WELL SOON, my thoughts are with you. Thanks for the music. ~ Lorenzo from Italy

Dear Dan, I was reading through the comments from your many well wishers and I came across one from a fan that had never experienced one of your concerts. She commented that she would like to take her kids. I did take my boys to see a Dan Fogelberg concert. And it was an experience they will never forget. True talent. My kids also tease me about the fact that you are my all-time favorite. I have been to many of your concerts, and have never been disappointed. Hope you are feeling better. The next time I see you in concert, I'm bringing my grandsons. Oh yes, they love you too! Kaleb even tries to sing along. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery! Very sincerely ~ Cindy, Ludington, MI

I had written a note for Dan before, I just have to share what is in my heart with Dan or with everyone who loves Dan and his beautiful music. I am inspired by all the lovely people who love Dan. I don't want to preach to anyone, but I want to share my faith with anyone who cares to hear about it. The reason I say this is because Dan means so much to me even if he doesn't know who I am. I am a musician and when I heard Dan's music 30 years ago I was inspired by his lovely music. To this day Dan is my favorite singer and will always be. To make a long story short I happen to know there is a God who loves to heal his people. I have been constantly praying for Dan. Last year my mother had cancer and I know without a doubt that God healed her. I read about all the people who care about Dan and wish all the best for him. I know if we believe there is a God Dan will be healed. I am truly sorry if I sound to preachy, but I am willing to do anything to help Dan get well and I know he will . God bless Dan and anyone who reads this note ~ a fan from Texas

Dan, You have been with me in song since 1975 and how you have filled up my life. I had the good fortune to see you several times. My thoughts and prayers are with you and I wish you the courage and peace of mind to do what you need to do to get strong once again. With all good wishes, a tremendous fan ~ Joanne

Dan, I have not checked in on any of your sites in a while and was shaken to read that you are ill. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Your work has played a major role in giving me the courage to pursue my own creative pathway. Best wishes and thanks ~ Wes Waugh, Boone, NC

Hello Dan, I saw you many times in Colorado in the 70s and 80s. Do you remember the station here in Boulder, KBCO? They played you a lot. Your music has really touched me deeply. I too, am struggling with this terrible disease. I was diagnosed in January of 2004. Finished my chemo in June. I will pray for you to overcome this illness. Believe me, it can be done. Best of luck to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Jane Madrid, Boulder, Colorado

Dear Dan - I'm so sorry to hear of your illness. As I have recently lost my wife of 30 yrs.the one thing that has brought me comfort is the bountiful hope to go on, that your music conveys. My wife and I were and are huge fans of yours, and I pray that all goes well for you and yours. "TO THE MORNING" Sincerest prayers, wishes, and love ~ alecstrings

Dan, I've never been to one of your concerts, but I hope to attend one when you are well and back out doing what you so obviously love to do. Notice I say "when" because the power of hope, love and positivity is one of the most enduring legacies of your music. Your music has been focal to some of the milestones of my life, and nothing moves me like "Leader of the Band." I'm sending all of the good thoughts and prayers I have in me to you right now. Please be strong and fight! -CLS

Your "gift" of spirit and soul poured out to those who happened to, or chose to listen....changed a generation, or two.. and many are or will be further found because of it. And knowing the songs, most etched in my heart, that for whatever reason were born to you and us alike. We pass them on to ours, and them to theirs and the spirit and the souls each take a bit of yours along. And we are better for it in some strange way. Strength is something that we draw from within ourselves but not so simply from ourselves. Stay well. Our prayers go out to you. ~ LZ, Florida

Dan - You have been a defining presence in my life and I can tell you exactly when it happened. I was in seventh grade and I heard "Same Old Lang Syne" and it changed me. I can't believe it's been 25 years since I've be in 7th grade but I feel so connected to you what you've written. I've collected all your albums and, even though I listen to the "top 40" music stations I know I can always put on a CD of yours and be pulled back into a world that is more introspective and caring, and it makes me a better person because I try to be that way to others. I've been to two of your concerts at Waterloo Village NJ and I've always pushed my way to the front for "Same Old Lang Syne" and it always throws me back to 7th grade and I wouldn't change the feelings for anything!! God bless you for being here, because you really affect people and I'm glad I'm one of them! My prayers are with you and your family. :-)

Dan ~ When I passed by a magazine display the other day and saw a copy of the magazine "Windows and Walls" I thought of you, and of how much joy your music has given me over the years. Thank you so much for the gift you've shared with so many people in this world. Please know that my prayers are with you and your family now, and in the days ahead. Peace be with you, and love ~Leigh Casler

Dan: I have one of your Martin D-41DF guitars and play it every night. When I play your songs I think about you and wonder how you are fairing. I'm not a religious man, (go figure I was raised Catholic) but I talk to a higher sprit that he/she will help you through this difficult time. You have been a part of my life since the early 70's and you have given me a gift of inspiration that has helped me to shape my life to be a better person. When I put your guitar back into its case every night before I go to bed I see your signature on the fretbord and hope that you will fair well. ~ Rich, Pittsburgh PA

Dan, You've been a great inspiration in my guitar playing. I'm 44 now and continue to play and inspire others using your music. I'm not much on praying but I've said a few for you. I lost a wife to cancer when I was 22. She loved your music as well. Thanks for "Nether Lands". ~ Bobby Davidson (Dallas)

Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Dan. You were on our minds this week. We didn't know of your illness until we visited your website. We were hooked while attending our freshman year at the University of Southern Mississippi,1974. A girl down the hall played "Hickory Grove" and that was it! Every party we attended got quiet when Dan was on, a spark of creativity would give way as guitars came out of cases and everyone would bond together as we sang your songs. Keep Going,Dan, you are a blessing! Sincerely ~ Liz and Mandy Picayune,Ms

Hi Dan, My prayer is that you be visited with the same great joy that your music has brought to me. God's Peace ~ Drayton

Dear Dan, I was two years behind you in high school; you fascinated me then, and you have held my fascination all through these years. My mother (still a Peoria gal) and I have followed your career and we have seen you in concert as often as possible. The way your music touches is sometimes beyond words; it transports one to a higher place. It holds our memories of the good times and the not so good, but we hunger for more. You and your family remain in our prayers as you move forward to complete healing. God go with you, Dan, and thank you for the gift of your talent. ~ Glenna (Kritzmire) Rogers, Clinton, IL

I just want to let you know that I continue to pray for your recovery. I believe you to be a very spiritual man with a good heart for this earth and each of God's creations. God loves you. I know you will recover and enjoy a long life with your sweet wife. God bless and thanks for sharing the beauty of your music. ~ Susan Wong, Montana Native

Hey Dan, I am another fan who is lending support. Hope everything is okay. You're a V.I.P. ~ Pam in N.C.

Hi Dan, There is so much to express in just hearing a favorite song from a time so long ago. We grow, continue, experience, and learn. It's so funny though how just some lyrics and melodies bring us back to places we cherish because the sound lets us remember again. It doesn't matter at all if the time was the happiest or most sad. The memories...ohhh just so good to be here at all!! You didn't grow up with me, but I grew up with you, and found and bought this Greatest Hits CD not long ago. Sweet and wonderful, and now reading of your cancer, the latest posting of 2004, sitting here wondering now in March of 2005. God I hate this feeling too! My children tease me as I play my new (old) cd, and I wonder if I'll ever be able to take them to see one of my favorites in person who is a real musician. Honestly it would be my honor just to attend. It's a given as I've read through some of the emails here, all of our prayers, thoughts, worries, and love are with you and your family. As a family ourselves who does understand, if we can help in any way in all sincerity just point a finger or two in our direction.....Reminiscent ~ Tina Trenary

Dan, Our prayers are with you! Your music has been a great influence in my life and has always been a source of both comfort and challenge. God bless you ~ Benjy Varnell, Douglas, GA

My thoughts are with you as I pray for you, man. Your music is great!! Good luck and get well quick! ~ Grant Bethlehem, PA

Dan, We're both cancer survivors and we're both still here. I got my semi-annual check up today and everything looks good. I travel from Kentucky to Vanderbilt in Nashville to see my doctor and listened to your music on the way. I'm still cancer free after three years and two months! I've put my life back together and will be getting married in May. I just got home and came to your website to see if there was an update on your health. You are in my thoughts and in my prayers... still. ~ Linda Barnes, Lexington, KY

Dear Dan, I have followed you for the last thirty years and have loved everything that you have written. Your words and music have gotten me through my heart disease. I am waiting for a new heart. I know that you are a fighter as I am and we will beat this together. You are the best! My thoughts and prayers are always with you. I wish you the best. You are what music is about. You inspire me. ~ Mike Carlin, Dublin, Ohio

Dear Dan, I have enjoyed your music since I first heard it in 1975 my senior year in college. It has always spoken to me in a very positive manner. My husband and I have been privileged to see two of your concerts, one in Pittsburgh in 1976 and then in Raleigh two summers ago. How time and space flies! Just wanted you to know that I am a 15 year cancer survivor (breast) and am praying that the Lord will be with you and your family during your treatment and healing. Best wishes! Thanks for all the wonderful music and looking forward to many more years of it in the future. The Lord bless you and keep you and make His face to shine upon you. Fondly ~ Bobbie and Jim Calgaro

Dan, My father was a great fan of your music (as am I). I guess you could have called him another "leader of the band" as he was a classical violinist who had to set aside his music to serve in WW2. After my mother's death in 1979 he took up the violin again and one of his favorite pieces to play was  'Aireshire Lament' . Dad continued to play until his death in 1994 at age 82. My family, as well as myself, who in one form or another all share the gift of music, wish you a very speedy recovery and GET WELL SOON !! ~  Michael Lynch & family - Miramichi N.B  Canada

Dan, You are and will always be in our prayers for a complete recovery. Several members of our family have had prostate cancer, and all have beaten it. We know that you will do the same. My wife and I have had the pleasure of seeing you in concert 7 times over the years. The first time in 1978 in Moorhead, MN and the last just a couple of years ago in Fort Lauderdale. We lived for many years in Colorado and know how much everyone there loves you. I especially remember a magical concert you gave at a small auditorium on the Colorado University campus around 1980. We were planning to see you again on this last tour here in South Florida, but we'll take a rain check. So, whenever you're up to it and make it back on the road, rest assured we'll be there. Take care ~ The Kuehns

Sending best wishes and Reiki therapy for you as you progress through your therapy. I have been a fan for a long time ~ Donna Nayduch

Dan, My prayers for you remain constant; my thoughts only positive. I feel privileged to have known you. Focus upon going forward. Love Always ~ Peter Rodman

Hello Dan, Just checking back as I do often to see if there are any updates on how you are doing. I pray that progress has been made on your recovery and that God has carried you safely through this chapter of your life. ~Suzie in the Peoria, IL. Area~

Dear Dan, I just went this morning to your website for the first time to see if you might be touring in my area soon and just learned your battle with prostate cancer. I have been a big fan since the early 70's and still listen to those albums/CD's from that time in particular. Whenever I needed to feel grounded or centered, or needed my spirits lifted, I have always found much comfort and joy in your music. I truly hope that you are feeling well and able to find some comfort from the fact that you have touched so many people's lives and that they have you in their thoughts and prayers. - Lauren in Baltimore, MD

Love, Peace, Strength and Courage to you and yours. You are so dearly loved by many - get well soon ~ Rachel (UK)

Thank you for the happiness you have brought to so many like myself whose soul you have sculpted with your beautiful spirit! You have so much more music left to write...You are in my prayers every day!

Dan, as a physician I know you are scared. Hopefully you will respond to your treatment well and fully recover. You have touched so many lives over the years with your beautiful songs and arrangements. I grew up listening and trying to play your songs on the guitar and piano. Once in an interview I was asked whose music I would have if stranded on a desert island, of course it would be yours!!! Yours is a unique gift. Hang in there through your therapy and remember as my mother would tell me during periods of stress in school "Keep your head held high, you're a child of the King and He will take care of you." Good luck. ~ David Churchill, Fayetteville, AR

Hi Dan, I hope your treatments have gone smoothly and your road to recovery and wellness is on the right track. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. I am one of your HUGE Colorado fans. I have seen you in concert many times here in the Colorado area, in my town, Colorado Springs and your favorite venue the "Red Rocks". I am also a musician and I will never forget the first time I heard one of your songs: "Nether Lands" from one of my college guitar friends that I sang with in 1977. He said you have to listen to this song, it's wonderful. From then on I've been a fan. I was hooked on your music. I can truly relate when you speak of the San Juan mountains in Colorado in your music. I think that they are the most beautiful mountain range in Colorado. Unfortunately, many tourists never get to the SW part of the state, which is the most beautiful. I can see why you love that area so. I am constantly amazed by the musical talents that you're blessed with. I rave about your musical talents to young people and encourage them to listen to your music. I am always awestruck on how beautifully you put your words to music, you're truly are a poet at heart. I constantly listen to your music and I enjoy all your different styles that you've inspired your fans with over the years. As a director of music at my church, I will keep you in my prayers as we celebrate Holy Week next week and the blessings of Christ in our lives. I hope that you'll update your fans soon on your progress and health. Take care and get well soon. I'm anxious to see you in concert again in COLORADO. ~ Kim Jordeth

Dear Dan, My prayers for your rapid complete recovery. Your songs bring back so many happy memories. They also helped me thru many difficult times. I'm always touched by "Leader of the Band." My Dad owned a tavern in Wauconda, Illinois and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but with his humor he could orchestrate the mood of the patrons. Thanks for the music. Take care ~ Linda

Just get through it, that is all you can do. We are here and waiting for you. Love ~ Lea

I was a teenager during part of the 70's but over time had become separated from the music of that time. I could still remember the words of certain songs while listening to them on the radio but the faces and names of the artists eluded me. About 4 years ago I had the opportunity to attend a concert featuring Dan Fogelberg. I vaguely remembered the name but my husband and I still decided to go to the concert. I'm glad I did go because I can honestly say it was the best musical performance I ever heard. What astonished me was that the stage held only a baby grand piano and a guitar and you were the only musician, but the music you produced from each instrument was incredible and your voice was exactly as I remembered. I was in a trance during that whole performance, never bored and absolutely astounded at what a fabulous musician I was listening to. I remembered fondly all the old songs and greatly enjoyed the newer songs you sang. At that time I only wished I had a small fraction of your enormous musical talent. It is seldom that you see or hear such a gifted artist. I was saddened to hear of your recent health challenge. My wish now is that you make a full recovery so that the world can continue to hear such a talented musician. My prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. I have faith that you will recover and I fully expect to attend another one of your concerts one day so I can again experience one of the best concerts ever. A devoted fan. ~ Debbie from Indiana

Dear Dan - I'm saying prayers tonight for your recovery... your songs touch so many people in so many ways - I'm sitting here thinking of how your songs were so powerful during my first real relationship (oh, so many years ago...) - and how special it was, just tonight, to introduce my 16-year-old daughter to your music. We sat outside in the car, after a wonderful evening together, listening to "Leader of the Band." She loved it, and I still love your music just as much as I ever did. Bless you, Dan. The power of prayer can be overwhelming - and by reading through ALL these posts, you have an incredible amount of people praying for you. We love you. ~ Kris in Waverly, IA

It is only today that I learned about your battle with cancer. As have others before you, cancer can go into remission. Not without a long battle of hard work & tenacity though. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. I cannot begin to tell you how much your music and spirit have given me over the course of your career. You see, I am an incest survivor, and your music (esp. The Innocent Age) has helped to shape my life. There were times that I felt like life wasn't worth living andI would put the album (yes, that tells you how old I am) on and sit, cry and sing, and somehow it gave me the strength to go on. It is with this same kind of courage that I offer up to you now as you battle your own demons. Thank you for all that you have done for me. My thoughts & prayers are for you ~ Caryl E Slaughter

Dan and family, It's an amazement - the show of love and support you folks command. We are lifelong fans, and think of you often. May God Bless and give the strength to beat this disease! ~ The Chandlers in New York

Hope you have a speedy and not too eventful recovery!! Your music has been special to me in many times from the early 70's to the present; in happy times as well as sad times. I've cried and laughed while listening to your music. hope you beat it!! Hope that there are many more happy days ahead of you. ~ Rachel from Maine

Dan, I have most of your CD's (and in the old style albums), and listen to them quite often. Tonight I had the desire to find a video, and went straight to your web site. As I learned of your illness, tears streamed down my cheeks. Just a couple weeks ago, my husband and I traveled into the mountains of Flagstaff, Arizona from the deserts of Phoenix, and my first thoughts as we were climbing the mountains were of you - seemed appropriate, if only I had the Phoenix CD on the trip. I have been a lifelong fan, but have only had the privilege of attending 2 live concerts. In my heart, I have felt a connection to you through your wonderful music and songs for over 30 years now. And I intend to keep that connection going strong. Our family's prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. Looking forward to your next tour.~ LP

We check this page often to hear of some word about your progress.. We have been fans since the 70s and have seen every concert you have had in New Jersey ever since. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have been listening to your CDs more regularly lately and sharing with "newcomers" who have never heard your beautiful gift. Keep positive thoughts and we look forward to hearing your music again live.soon! Wishes from Jersey. ~ Fran and John

Dear Dan, We were sitting around the dinner table, listening to a CD of yours and wondering how you are faring with your treatments. I hope at this point, success has been achieved and you are on the road to recovery. We love your music, the tunes and the words. We hope that you will entertain us again, for many years to come. Sending good vibes and strong winds of good health ~ Sylvia Baker, Linwood, New Jersey

Dan, I have been a fan since 1972, when a friend's girlfriend turned me on to your first album (Home Free) produced by Norbert Putnam. I was a high school senior, a guitar player, and played in a band. Your music spoke to me like no other ever before or since. Of course I bought every LP and CD you ever produced, and learned to play all the songs (could never sing very well though). I liken your genius and gifts to those of Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Ray Charles, and others out there who I'm sure you admire. When I heard of your illness, it made me realize that you too are human. I guess like many of your fans, I had elevated you to a demi-god status. I'm not a real religious person, but try to live spreading good karma. When I do pray to our God (there's only one), I say a prayer for you. You have been so lucky in life, to have been born gifted to two wonderfully talented parents, educated at fine schools, discovered by Irving, toured with the Eagles, given so many wonderful performances, lived up in the mountains near where I live now, produced so many fine albums, and found happiness in a loving wife. I'm sure this disease has made you reflect about your life.

When I was going through a separation and divorce back in the '80s, your lyrics (I didn't pay much attention to before, loved the music too much) helped me get in touch with my own emotions. Days and nights when I thought I was going insane, I listened to your music, played your music, and actually began to write my own thoughts down. You helped me out, and I guess now it's my (our) turn.I really hope you beat this cancer. It sounds like you have the right attitude about it. I'm sending all my positive thoughts your way. Nothing would make me happier than hearing of your full recovery. Best regards and get well soon ~ Gary Scharg, Rollinsville, CO

Dan, Tears are wept and prayers are said for a speedy and total recovery. ~ Paul - Cincinnati

Dear Dan, I hope that your healing process is going well. I check the website often to see if there is any news of your progress. I hope all is well. I also wanted to let you know that my 2 year old son asks me to play your music. He will point to the CD played and say "Boca" that is his word for Dan Fogelberg. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely ~ Elizabeth Peterson (a longtime fan)

Your music and lyrics have captured so many emotions over the many years - thank you for expressing them in such a beautiful way. I have been a fan since the early 70s. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this trying time. ~ Jillette, Guam USA

Dearest Dan, I thank the Creator for blessing me with such a great appreciation of music and the finer things in life. Since the day I first heard the song "Nether Lands", some 28 years ago when I was 18, you and your music have held a special place in my heart, soul and mind. From "Home Free" to "Full Circle", there's not album of yours that hasn't touched me. A few nights ago, my 19 year old son and I went to the record store and I was once again drawn to your music. I re-purchased "No Resemblance Whatsoever", as I had given my original copy to my girlfriend. She fell in love with "County Clare" and wants me to learn it and play it for her on my piano. Today I've been listening to "The Very Best of Dan Fogelberg". I especially enjoy this album because, as the label says, these songs were handpicked by you. It's only today that I learned of your recent illness. I hope and I pray that the medical treatment that you, no doubt, have been going through will bring the results that you and your family have been praying for. I pray that God will work His miracles within you and grant you complete healing, so that you may return to doing the things which bring you love, joy and peace. Every now and then, I go to my closet and revisit my grandest collection of all: my old vinyl recordings of your record albums. I'll never part with them. Of course, I now have them all on CD and at this very moment, the song "Reach Haven Postcard" is playing. Thank you, Dan, for gracing us with your beautiful, lyrical, insightful songs and voice all of these years, and may you have many more! A humble fan ~ Fernando X. Barriga, Duarte, California

Dan, I've only had the privilege of seeing you in concert once in my life. But it was a performance that will stay with my wife and me, for the rest of our lives. You captured and captivated everyone in the place that night. It is with great respect and sorrow upon hearing of your illness. Dan, your music has touched so many through the years. May God himself reach down and touch you with his healing hands, and give you the same joy and peace that you have given all of us. Our prayers are with you and we hope for a speedy recovery. ~ Sam,

Birmingham AL

Good wishes for Dan... just a note of encouragement.Yesterday I played Dan's music on my way to work. I have a stessful job, for those moments Dan's music carried me away from my stress. What a wonderful gift Dan has been to us. As David Crosby says music brings healing and it does. I want to state that I am thankful to have Dan's music. Without his music life would not be the same. I guess I must say Dan is my favorite singer. I don't think anyone can sing as beautiful as Dan. Dan I wish much health, love and joy. You truly are in my heart and I know thosands of others feel the same. God Bless, Dan.

There are literally millions of people pulling for you and wishing you the best. Your fan, your friend ~ Fred Clark, Key West, Fl.

Dan, My wife and I have been trying to think of what to say since we heard the news. We really don't know what to say, except to say thank you and to let you know that we want you to take all the time you need to get well-try not to think about us-let us think about you getting well. And, when you do recover, understand that we will still be here. Also, we think you need to know how powerful your music is to us; you may wonder what all the fuss is all about, but for us, your music is a way of life, a map for our souls. I can't tell you how many times I have headed out and taken your music along with me and the inspiration your songs have provided. Thanks so much for your gift of music. Each nite I sit at my computer to do work and have my headset on and your music in always in my CD player. When I heard about this, I went to look up your lyrics to your music and ya know what I did not need them as I have known each and every word to your songs for the last 10 years or longer.....Longer I am sure. Dan, a man as you with the lyrics you write must be a very special spiritual man and I know that God will take care of you and speed your recovery!  Dear Dan and Jean, You both are in my prayers daily. I think of both of you and how courageous you both are. My family and I are going through the same issues with my father's prostate cancer. I look forward to hearing about your progress and new music from you. God Bless You and your family. Love ~ Lynne from Howell, Michigan

Dear Dan, I was just riding home from work tonight with the nurse that works with me, and we heard one of your songs play, and she commented how much she loves your music. My 10 year old was in the back seat, and I asked him who this was on the radio. He said, "Dan....Oh wait, I know this. Dan...that guy with the funny name." I told her that I have instructed my cousin to let me know the next time that you play in the Concord, California area so that I can fly there to see you. She told me to look you up on the internet to see what your schedule was. I am so sorry to hear that you are fighting cancer, and I truly pray that you are pain free, and that you can feel the strength that everyone that has been touched by you is willing to you.

I remember listening to you when I was 11 years old and my big sister came home from college with your "Captured Angel" album. I played it over and over until it was so worn I had to buy a new one. Needless to say, I have collected almost every album that you've released, and I can't express to you how much your music has ment to me over the years. In fact, my first wedding featured your music!! I may never meet you, but you are my friend, and I will be thinking of you. Stay strong, Dan. Sincerely ~ Amber

Dan-You have given so much to so many with your music and lyrics, for that as others have so beautifully written, Thank You. May you receive many times over the grace of God,continue to mend and stay with us for years to come. Your music is a haven in these times of confusion in 2005 just as they were in 1974. God's speed to you.

Dan, I am still Gobsmacked to hear about this and just wanted to wish you and your family the strength to know that all of your fans out here are wishing and praying great thoughts for you ...we love you ~ Tina Rojas

Dear Dan - My husband and I were fortunate enough to see you in July 2002 for your 30th Anniversary Concert in Anaheim, CA. What a great concert. You had injured yourself with your guitar the night before and still went on with the show. What an awesome memory that we will carry with us. Your music has been such an unbelievably huge part of our lives since 1972. We gave our 2 oldest daughters' their own CD of "The Innocent Age" since ours is about worn out. We are keeping you in our thoughts and daily prayers for you and your family and your recovery. Know that your music will live on in all of our hearts. Best wishes and get well soon. ~ The Tackett's, Victorville, CA

Dear Dan, I checked your website to see when you were going to be performing in Atlanta and I was stunned to read this news. To say our thoughts and prayers are with you is an understatement. May you receive the blessings and healing that your music has brought to so many of us throughout the years. We look forward to learning of your recovery, and we can't wait to see you -stronger than ever - in concert again. Love to you and your family. ~ P&G_Atlanta

Dan, I just heard you singing on the radio and checked your website for any update of your recovery. My sister's father-in-law has advanced prostate cancer, is 80, and was diagnosed three years ago. He is still going strong and the cancer has not spread. It is not curable but they are keeping it in check with chemo and radiation. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago, had a mastectomy (had spread to 4 lymph nodes), and has been cancer free since surgery and chemo! Your fight encourages me and my sister. Sing on, fight on, win!! Your fond listener ~ Pamela Dunn

Dan, I was just browsing through Gordon Lightfoot's website, and then I went on to yours. After hearing that he had an aneurysm in 2002 and nearly died, imagine my shock when I discovered that you were also ill. Yourself, Gordon Lightfoot and the late Harry Chapin, are my musical heroes, along with the late Clifford T. Ward. I drove an old green Peugot 404 through the 70's in Donegal, and your music was never off my stereo, even my four younger brothers still remember your songs. I had the privilege of seeing you in concert, twice in succession at Westbury Music Fair CT and in New York, when I worked in Stamford CT in 1996-97. When I arrived in Stamford in 1996 I could not believe my luck when I saw you were apppearing in Westbury that Sept. I got a ticket and weeks later was devastated to hear that your tour was cancelled due to your boating accident. I will never forget the first song you played at Westbury, "Nexus". Not being a miusician I thought there was about three guitars playing on that intro but when you played it on a twelve string guitar I'd never heard anything like it before or since. You have brought great joy and happiness to me, and millions of others through your wonderful music, and I look forward to seeing you again live in the near future. As the old Irish proverb says, "May the road rise up to greet you, may the wind always be on your back, and may God hold you in the palm of his hand". Good luck to you and your family, Dan, and you will beat this -- of that I have no doubt.. ~ Mike in Donegal, Ireland

Dear Dan, I've written before and I still hold you in my thoughts. 25 years ago, May 4th, my husband and I danced at our wedding to "Longer." I have just left my piano where I have practiced your song to perform for my husband on our pending anniversary. The words are more poignant than ever. Be well.....and thank you. ~ Beth Collins

Dan, I had tickets to see your concert in New Jersey and ws going to drive there from Massachusetts. I love your music and I wish you the very best and a full recovery. May God bless you and your family. ~ SAS

Dan, may you be richly blessed with God's healing power, just as your music has so richly blessed us through the years. I listen to your music almost daily, and never tire of it. Your music speaks to my soul. Please endeavor to get well as soon as possible, so that we might once again hear your wonderful melodies in person. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. God and peace be with you always. ~ Pat in Atlanta

You are in my daily prayers and like most who write you have influenced my life in so many ways. I was listening to Captured Angel a short while ago when my beautiful 4 year old (Emma) said "Mom I notice that every time you listen to this music you sing and smile". I said "yes, this man has made me smile for years and years, and he is kinda sick right now and can't make any new music". Later that night when I was putting her to bed and she was saying her prayers she added "Jesus please heal mom's friend so he can always make her smile with his songs". She has been praying for you ever since. The power of prayer is awesome and Emma is living proof! She is my miracle baby. I have loved you and your music for so long and one of my greatest memories is being in the 4th row when you played the Ryman in Nashville.

Dan, You are in our thoughts and prayers. May the good Lord watch over you and guide you back to full health! ~ Richard and Pam Belloff

Dear Dan- Just want to say that I am praying for your recovery from cancer. You have provided many years of much loved music that I will always hold in a special place. You have touched the hearts and souls of so many, and for that you should be proud. I have often said that you have more talent in your pinkie finger than most current entertainers have in their whole bodies. I'm looking forward to a new album from you when you regain your health!! Keep up the good work, hang in there and God Speed. A lifelong fan ~ Molly Gerwe, Tucson, Arizona

Dear Dan and Jean, thousands of people world wide are praying for you both. You're going to beat this!!

Dan, I've been an avid listener for a very long time. I've seen you in concert many times and never tire of going and listening. My thoughts are with you every day. I recently found a couple of greatest hits CDs and listen to them at least once a day. I love your "Rhythm of the Rain". My kids keep hollering at me, due to the volume I turn it up to, to turn it down I can't hear anything. But whatever they think, I love your songs and you. I want to wish you a speedy recovery so you can hit the road and come to Memphis, TN or even close so I can see you again live and up close. ~ Rachael, Memphis, TN

Dan, I just want to let you know that fans in North Carolina love you and are praying for you. Each year our town of Monroe has a "Relay for Life" walk for cancer. Please know that we will be thinking of you with every lap around that football field. May God bless you and your family. With Love, Wanda Aldridge

It's been months since I last wrote, but I often think of you and pray for you. Like so many, my husband Richard and I look forward to good news on your health and more of your beautiful music. It will be interesting to see how you will interpret this whole experience as you write new songs; you've always done hurt and healing so well from a broken-heart standpoint. Be strong and inspired by the incredible loyalty and love your fans have for you. Cheers! ~ Maura

Dear Dan, I have been absorbing your music since the mid-70's. I just wanted you to know that it has touched me more than any other artist's. I remember seeing you in 1979 in Boulder, you came out and did a set on the most beautiful grand piano I had ever heard. I have lived in Colorado all of my life, some it spent in Southwestern Colorado. It is a magical, spiritual place. I hope it will offer you all the healing you and your family need. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Peace ~ Paula - Golden, CO

Your music has strengthened me, softened me and comforted me during times when I needed it most. Please accept my thoughts and prayers as wings to help you along the way.

Dear Dan, My prayers go out to God for you. In many ways, I feel that we grew up together; you provided the soundtrack as I watched myself live my life, sometimes as in a dream. Sometimes you just narrated, sometimes you interpreted. I'm 47 now and have been a fan since, well, the 70s. Your lyrics still transport me to another moment in time, when I was young, when the emotions of life seemed so acute, when, somehow, I felt immortal. Now, none of those illusions remain, but your music evokes "moments of rest, glimpses of laughter". May God bring healing to you as you travel along the road. Bless you ~ Jonathan Owen, Alaska

Dear Dan: Like many others here, I have been checking your website for the latest news regarding your recovery. Reading the well wishes from so many of your fans and friends is very heartwarming. You are truly, truly loved. I just want you to know that I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I'm looking forward to the next time I can experience the magic of your music in concert. Until then, I will keep listening to your wonderful music which is on continuous play in my office, in my car, and at home. Sending love and positive thoughts your way. Get well soon, Dan! ~ Pam in Louisiana

Dan, Your music has always been, and always will be, a delight to my ears. Please know we're thinking of you and wish you a speedy recovery. You will always "Play in Peoria"!! Best wishes ~ Jen Morse & Hal Wilson, Peoria, IL

Dan, My family's prayers are with you as you battle your illness. Throughout much of the Gospel, Jesus speaks of communities. There are many types of communities including church, neighborhood, etc. Another community is your very dedicated community of DF fans. As a Peoria, IL native, I have followed your music closely since the mid-1970's. Your music continues to inspire me to play better (I also play Martin guitars) sing better and be a better person. God bless you and your family! ~ Michael Noirot St Louis, MO

To Dan and Family, My heartfelt prayers for healing are with you and your family. May you be richly blessed with many, many more years, so that the world can be blessed with your music. It inspires and lifts us up, and helps us through the hard times. Your songs are just as relevant today, as the day they were first recorded, because they come from the heart, and speak to the heart. God be with you and yours ~ Marge in Canada

Dan and Family, I continue to be uplifted by your many musical offerings and hope that the thoughts and prayers being sent your way uplift you in this difficult time. Peace to you and your family and I will lift your name to the heavens in prayer often! ~ Martha Layton Smith

Dan, may God bless you for (1) a healthy recovery and (2) a return to the stage on which you entertain so many of us over and over. I listen to various songs of yours everyday while running our dogs here in the fields of northern "Illinois" and the words and music get better and better each and every time. Amazing how 99% of your music recorded is just you, playing and singing every instrument and vocal. Incredible talent. I know we will see you again soon! ~ Mark, DeKalb, IL.

Dear Dan; your music has been special to me from the mid 70's . I wish you the best of luck. With so many people behind you, you will prevail. An old fan ~ Craig

Dearest Dan, I, like all the others who have written here, have grown-up with your inspiring, thought provoking, emotion filled lyrics, and remarkable, uplifting melodies. Yours is some of the first music I ever learned to play. What can I say - you know you have touched all of us in a way that I just do not have words to express. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Whether you decide ever to go out on the road again, know that YOU have made a profound difference in my life. What I want to know is what can I do for you? Please take comfort in knowing that we are praying for the Lord to heal you, but don't hesitate to ask if there is a specific need. We're here for you! ~ Susan - Grass Valley, CA

Dan; Channing Murray and the U of I seem like a long time ago, but your music has not aged a day. I used to sit on the fire escape of my sorority house and listen to you play on cool Friday evenings. May you and your family find strength in the words of love and encouragement so many people from all over the world have shared on this webpage. Your songs are timeless. God Bless. ~ Wendy

Dear Dan -Your music has the most beautiful words anyone has ever sang to the world. I have been listening to you since the 70's and each song has a memory that I go back to and will never forget. There is not a day that goes by I do not listen to you and you always bring tears to my eyes. I have been to several of your concerts and you get better as each year goes by. And I thank you for the pleasures you bring to all of us in how you can write such wonderful lyrics. You are in my thoughts and prayers each day. I pray you are getting stronger. Hopefully you have no pain & suffering. With Love ~ Lois. Tavares, Florida

Dan and Jean, Just to let you know (again) that you are constantly in our thoughts and prayers and we hope you are making a good recovery. I check your website regularly but with no updates for many months, we are regarding this as "no news is good news". The beauty of your words and music is always with us and has been for 30 years. It has been both entertainment and solace to us and may it bring you the peace, strength and comfort you need right now. Thinking of you both with love and all good wishes ~ Lauretta and family - in England

Dan and Family, I am a fan in Japan, working in a medicine company. I am now 46 years old, live with my wife and two daughters. Everytime I go fishing, I set your cd "The Innocent Age" in my car cd changer, and drive listening to your wonderful and heartful songs, sometimes singing along. It's been about 5 months since I found the news about your disease on your site. We Japanese fans (including me) hope you will get over it, will recover your good health and will play enough to record the next cd and release it as soon as possible. We are looking foward to your good news. ~ Noboru Takagi from Japan

Still sending prayers and good thoughts your way. Just wanted to wish you and your wife a blessed Easter. Hoping to hear about your recovery soon! Many Hugs! ~ Cathy in NJ~

My estranged brother was very recently thrown in jail for multiple offenses and I remembered a song you sang which I listened to back in 1990 when I was finishing up an archaeology field season in Alaska. I had recently broken up with my husband and was returning to a log cabin (no running water) outside of Fairbanks Alaska with my two small children for the winter. At the time I was in a log cabin in Gakona Alaska waiting for the rest of the crew to come in and I was listening to your song "Go Down Easy". It was so appropriate for the time I was in. Here it is 2005 and I suddenly felt the need to find this song again to reflect the situation I am now in with my brother. Wow, it's eternal. I insist you get better so I may see you sing this song in person. God bless you and long life to you. My love ~ Patty

As a child growing up, my father would often listen to adult contemporary radio stations. As a youngster, not many songs from those stations appealed to me except for a few songs whose artist were unknown to me. These songs included "Longer", "Leader of the Band", "An Innocent Age". Now being older, I learned that those memorable lyrics and melodies were by Dan Fogelberg. I since became a fan and started collecting your albums, and I adopted the song "Longer" as my wedding song last year. I looked up your website thinking that perhaps you were touring. I was saddened to find out that you had to cancel a tour because of your condition. Dan, I wish you a speedy recovery, and that hopefully, I will soon get an opportunity to watch you perform. ~ Vince Ang, Albany, New York

Dear Dan and family- thoughts and prayers sent to you for a full recovery soon- we love and care about you! Thanks for all you do and have done for all of us all these years. Heartfully sent ~ Brenda Lee Ham

Hey Dan...There is no way for me to express my thoughts to you better than the other eloquent fans that have written before me. There isnt a day that goes by that I dont either listen to, or play on the piano myself, one of your songs. I saw you in Nederland in the early 70's, and saw you at Konocti your last time through, and the tears flowed, it was so moving for me. My girlfriend had never seen me cry, but it was her first taste of your music. The rest of your fans know why it was so moving for me. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. GET WELL....all the best ~ Jim Lubell

Dan. My wife like you is fighting a tough battle with cancer and I know with faith and strength you will both be survivers. Light and love ~ Pat and Donna

Dan- I just read the news on your web page. I truly am very sorry to hear about your battle with cancer. My wife and I have been very big fans since 1975! She gave me my first DF. album, Home Free, and it is still my favorite.(It's on as Ii write this). We will put you in our prayers this very night. Keep a strong attitude. May the Lord bless you and your family! Keep the faith! ~ Jake

I'm 44 years old and a long time fan. Your music is something that is always nearby. Now, my 3 and 6 yr old children are big fans as well. We all sing DF tunes every night as they slip off to sleep: usually "The Reach" and "The Sand & The Foam." They also include you in their prayers and we all can't wait for your next "album" (yes, I'm definitely 44) release and - more importantly - the tour. I've told my 6 yr old that I'll take him to see your show no matter where it is. Get well soon. ~ Bob, Anne, Cole and Chase in Jacksonville FL.

Dan, You have been an inspiration to me for these many years. My family's love and best wishes go out to you! ~ Bruce Overbeck

Hi Dan, I'm not going to impart anything new or different here that hasn't already been said. Needless to say I've been a DAN FAN since the early 70's and have all the recordings and sheet music as well, since I have a love for stringed instruments, as you do.I have also had the pleasure of seeing you perform live on six different occasions. It's interesting that, like many others, I have used your work as a yardstick for the events that have taken place in my own life. I can't tell you how many times I listened to "Hard To Say" when I was going through divorce or "Leader Of The Band " when I lost my father. I simply want to thank you for your inspiration and let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you everyday. Hang in there my friend, because you truly are, The Living Legacy ~ Henry in Huntington,West Virginia.

I watched your concert last night on Soundstage HD. What an incredible performance. With High Definition being what it is, I felt like I was sitting in the front row. So, this morning I got on the internet to see where you might be performing in California and discovered that you were taking time off to fight the battle of your life. I wanted to send my blessings and prayers to you for a full recovery. May God bless you. ~ Barbara

You represent a whole chapter of my life through your music, it was awesome. I listened to you in Florida as I grew up...I now live in Colorado and know that this is a place you love. I thank you so much for your beautiful music, and wish you all the best on your way to recovery....

You have touched so many lives with your songs and art, I hope we can touch yours with our thoughts and prayers. ~ Judy

Hi Dan, My four year old daughter Shannon is also battling cancer. She recently relapsed from acute lymphocytic leukemia and underwent a bone marrow transplant at Sloan Kettering in New York City. I was sad to learn of your illness. I have been listening to your music since I was a teenager. I am proud to own your entire music collection, and have had the joy of seeing you in concert on 6 different occasions. Please know that Shannon and I will be praying for you and your family as you experience this difficult journey. Remember that music, laughter, and the love and support of family and friends are the best medicine. Lots of love and prayers to you and your family. Love ~ Gayle and Shannon

Dear Dan- I'll try and make this letter as short as I can. Your music and songwriting has meant so much to me for so long a time that I'm not sure I can put my gratitude into a "note". As an eighth grader, in 1974, I was given "Home Free" as a birthday gift. That album changed my life. I had played guitar since 1970, but it was when I heard "Stars" that I knew I wanted to perform. Over the years, I tried to copy your singing style and attended many of your concerts icluding one you did with "Fools Gold" at Tanglewood. I've been in a celtic/folk/rock band, "Hair of the Dog", for fourteen years and have just recently released my first solo cd, "Son of a Dunigan". The last tune on the recording, "Almost Home", was written with you in mind. The fact that you're ill has really upset me. I remember seeing you (w/Tim W.) at Siena College and you said that you were fighting the worst cold you ever had. Right after you said those words you sat down at the piano and sang the shit out of "Nether Lands". I will never, ever forget that. I know you can beat this thing. You're in my thoughts and prayers and I think of you and your influence every time I close the show with "The Parting Glass". Even with a 12 string, I never could get "Once Upon a Time" to sound right. This letter will probably never reach you. All I really wanted to say was thanks for all you've done for me and get better soon. Sincerely ~ Michael DeAngelis

Hi Dan (after seeing you in concert 20+ times, I feel we should be on a first name basis hahaha...) I could wish you the standard "get well soon", yadda, yadda, yadda. I could tell you "I'm your biggest fan", yadda, yadda, yadda. Nah. Just follow your inner strength and draw from some of the strength you've given to others. Yes, I've seen you countless times in concert.....even sat through a concert in the pouring rain (Jones Beach) 8 months pregnant. I have to admit that my kids didn't know any other music existed until they ventured out into the world. At the risk of sounding incredibly corny, your music gives ME strength when I need it most, and to say "thank you" sounds so small. I truly believe that getting through the hardest of times is what makes us strong, keeps us humble, and teaches us what's most important in life. I somehow think that God gave you a preview and through those eyes, you have given the rest of us so much more in return.Come back stronger than ever......you are missed. ~ Nancy Hufnagel

Dan, After 31 years in a "steady" job, I'm just about to leave England to start work for a holiday company in Greece. There's a place in the world for a gambler. I will have your music with me and will play it to all that will listen. I will let it shine. Stay with us. ~ Alan Jacobs

Dear Dan, Your music matches your kindness. Dan please check out St. Padre Pio. Take care. Thanks for the great music. God Bless. ~ Brian

Ahhhh, the Mesmerist- I send you the GREAT power of healing thoughts. You have had soooo many prayers sent to you that the Rocky Mountains may now be at a different latitude, just think of it! Such a lucky man you are! xoxoxoxxoxo

Your music has always been with me and helped me through many hard times. I have been a fan of yours since 1970's, when a friend turned me on to your "Souvenirs" album. I have been hooked ever since, and I try to catch every concert you give. I am so sorry to hear of your struggles with cancer and hope that you will have a speedy recovery. Please know that your loyal fans are all thinking of you and wishing you well.

Dear Dan, Hope you are doing well. You are in our prayers. ~ Mark & Sonya Breedlove

Dan, Your music, words and spirit were a great inspiration to me and a group of friends (one of whom eventually became my wife) during the 70's and early 80's. Your lyrics and beautiful melodies formed the backdrop for the young adult group in the church we attended. We shared your music with teens and adults who attended the masses on which we worked, trying to have our young, enthuaistic voices heard within the context of the Roman Catholic church at that time. We eagerly awaited each new release, pouring over the lyrics, looking for new ways to express truths we all believed. We built slide shows using your music as background, and as inspirational meditation music during retreats we planned and ran. Some of us even tried writing our own music, so greatly were we inspired by your lead; and I even put my own words to "Aspen". My then girlfriend - now wife, and I attended several of your shows in the DC area, and when "The Innocent Age" was released, I won a copy of the album and tickets to see you, on a local radio station contest.

Things change, people age and move on, life closes in, and that comfort we felt was surpassed by the need to get on with our adult lives. Many of us are still friends, though we don't get together as often as we'd like. However, I want you to know that recently I purchased a record player on a whim, and took my old albums off the shelf. Our kids got a kick out of watching Kathy and me finger through the covers, reminiscing about when we listened to what group. Though they'd heard of some of the bands - ZZ Top, Boston, America, etc - they were most appreciative of the music from your albums. They'd heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio before, but that was about it. We actually spent several hours going through your albums, starting with "Home Free" and moving up through "Windows and Walls". They are energized by what they've heard, and I come home from work every night to hear one of your albums playing on the turntable. I'm not sure what will wear out first, the record or the needle!

I also wanted to write to send our prayers and support for this next great battle you're fighting. My wife is an Oncology Case Manager in Washington, DC. She works with cancer patients on a daily basis, and brings care and heartfelt concern for their well-being to them each day. I pray that you have a care team that works with you as hard as she does for her patients. You have brought so much to so many, it is times like this that we wish we could give our strength and energy to you, who gave so much to us! You don't know us, but if there is ever anything that we can do, please let us know. We won't hold out hope that we'll ever meet or communicate, but we do need you to know that we feel very close to you, and send our love, prayers and gratitude for years of sharing yourself with us. Good luck, Dan! Sincerely ~ Bob and Kathy Bixby (and Ryan and Andy, as well)

Dan...Your song, "To The Morning"....it saved my life. I was seriously considering ending it all! Then I heard your words, "There is nothing left to say, but, "Come on morning!". Since then....I have you to thank. There was a short article in the Chicago papers about your fight with Prostate Cancer. I cried then started to pray for you....for your fight. I will continue to pray for you. Thank you for your beautiful music, words....life. I cannot find any other words. You are in my thoughts, my prayers. Please keep your fans at least somewhat updated....we all love you! PEACE AND SERENITY, MY FRIEND! ~ Karen Mueller

I learned about you through musician friends when I was in college. They were playing at a small club and did a version of "Stars." That was it for me. I'd never heard anything so beautiful. It has been your influence which has me performing volunteer work in the Native American community. You also influenced me to draw and to write. Your influence has had a huge impact in shaping the direction my life has taken. I always tell my friends: "Dan Fogelberg taught me the beauty in perfection and Joe Walsh taught me the beauty in imperfection." My favorite song of all time, without question: "Song From Half Mountain." I've yet to hear anything more lovely than that. Here's to you. I can't wait to see you in concert again. It will happen. ~ Tanya Touchstone

Hi Dan, I just wanted you to know that I have listened to you since I was 14. I'm 44. I saw you at the Clark County Fair in Vancouver WA a few years back. Your lyrics and music have been a companion for me for many long years. Here's something funny: I won $102 from KINK radio in Portland, OR, because I was the only one who knew that Joe Walsh produced Souvenirs. You have blessed so many people. You are a living legacy, and greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing yourself and for speaking out the words that need to be said. ~ Shannon Monahan

Thank you for such wonderful music. Your wisdom and insights have been there for me since college days in the 70s. Whenever I need to be blessed by music it is always yours that I turn to. God bless you with a speedy recovery. ~ Paul

My thoughts and prayers are with you during your recovery. I've enjoyed your music for many years and look forward to the wonderful new sounds to come. Best regards ~ Paula

Dan, As the years have passed you have given of yourself through your music, lyrics and humor. The energy you have shared continues to inspire, uplift and remind many of us about the power of love and emotion on an every day basis. My family sends you that energy ten fold so that you may uplifted, healed and loved during this time of transformation. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ~ Cami & Alan

I was in need of a large Dan fix and spent Easter Sunday at home cooking, enjoying just a tad too much of the grape and listening to your music. The most important aspects of my life have included your music. Love and marriage and its demise and on Sunday a welcome inclusion while just hanging with my maturing two kids. How can I thank you? To your health! ~ LL

Dan, You have always been our favorite artist. Our most sincere wishes for you and yours. God Bless ~ Frank & Karen

Dan, Thank you for "Icarus Ascending." You've always inspired us the best way...with the courage of your ideas. Your young heart was so wise. Thank you with all my heart. ~ Tracy O'Connell, Natick, MA

I remember being a scared country boy going to college in the early 1980's and hearing your music for the first time. Music never touched my soul until then. But, yours sure did. I've seen you two times here in Pittsburgh, and often wondered how your career was going. Now that I'm a dad of a 6 year old, I hope to dust off my albums some day and share your music with her. I'll light a candle for you at Mass and say a special prayer for your speedy recovery. ~ Daniel J. McNulty

Dear Dan - I've always been such a big fan of your music! Back in the late seventies, I remember the first time I heard "The Power of Gold." It quickly became one of my favorite songs. In later years, I can also recall spending hours trying to teach myself to play "Longer" on guitar and swaying to the sounds of "Heart Hotels" on the radio. And since 1980, no New Year's holiday is complete for me until I hear "Same Old Lang Syne." Recently, my admiration for your unbelievable talent (as well as my regret for never having seen you perform live in concert) increased exponentially, when I had the opportunity to see you perform on PBS Sound Stage. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see the whole program, but what I did see left me wanting more. I immediately went out onto the Internet to find out when you'd be performing in Atlanta. It was then that I was shocked and saddened to hear that, due to the recent diagnosis of your illness, you had canceled your Fall 2004 tour. As a long-time musician and music-lover, I believe in the healing power of music. I pray, with all my heart, that the love and hope you've bestowed upon the world through your music, is returned to you tenfold. God bless you and Jean-- my thoughts and prayers are with you both. Sincerely ~ Sharon G.

Best wishes to you Dan. I underwent chemo and radiation for breast cancer; my thoughts are with you. I know you will be fine and can do it. Keep the faith!

Dearest Dan, I, once again, find myself here at this site wishing and hoping and praying for some words of comfort. And, indeed, I DO find comfort here! I am among so many others who have the same feelings for you and your music as I do! (the music I have held close and dear to my heart for more than 30 years) Your loyal fans call out to you, Dan, in one powerful voice! We love you -We wish you well! We NEED you ! ~ June Kellum, Ocala, Florida

Dear Dan & Jean, Most wonderful Easter Blessings to you and your families. As we celebrate the One who has all power to heal, who himself rose from the dead, I pray that he is (and I know he is) holding you in the palm of his hand, giving you peace, comfort and healing. I hope to hear soon that you are well on the way to recovery. You are in my prayers every day. I listen to Full Circle sometimes twice a day, the songs are so moving and I can pin point most of them to a time in my life. Our Lord gave you such talent and it will surface again. And when you make it to Florida, you can be sure I will be there. God's Blessings ~ Susan

Dan, As a brain cancer survivor I can relate to what you are going through right now. Keep your head in the game, don't ever give up...it's worth sticking around and a real kick when you finally beat it. I can't wait to hear one of my favorite american poets and songwriters write a song about this experience. I expect to hear it soon. Thanks in advance. ~ Kevin S.

In the 1970's, God & the angelic hosts reached down to us mere mortals & resonated himself through one of his finest of insturments-YOU! I refuse to believe that such a great gift would be given, only to take it back prematurely. Having lost a wife to breast cancer, I know personally the emotions that a family is put through. I pray that God will continue to strengthen you & that even more wonderful music will be poured through the vessel that is you, as a result of this trial. It may interest you to know that a Christian artist named Michael Card (he won the DOVE award for "SONG OF THE DECADE" -for his song "El Shaddai" ) lists you as one of his musical influences. God has used you greatly in ways that you'll probably never know. I have since lost 3 children & my second wife just divorced me. Your songs & music take me back to my teen years & comfort me in ways that words inadequately express. God Bless & Heal you! ~ Randall Elkins

Dan, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful gifts, sharing your life with us. I've been wanting to thank you for so many years. It's only the beginning Dan....may the Great God of love and peace wrap you in his wings and watch over you. ~ Lu Zig.....Texas

DF, Invisible Infinite Love ~ DAB

I so LOVE your music. It deeply touches my heart and my soul. It brings life alive - with all its joy and all its sorrow. Thank you, Dan.

Dan, In my turbulant teens, my family and I were as far apart as strangers. My father had claimed that he had no children, and we went for almost a year without speaking. As time passed, and my anger turned to lonliness for my father, I sent him the 45 (yeah, THAT long ago) of  "Leader of the Band." My brother played it for him at a family gathering and it was the only time I have known that my father had cried for me. It brought us together and had since become our song. Two years ago, my father passed away, and I am able to recall his last year as one of the best of my life. I listen to that song often, and it always makes me appreciate what a wonderful soul and dear man my father was. I thank you and wish you and your family all the strength, love, faith and prayer it takes to face this situation. It's time for all who you have touched with your words and music to reach back to you. ~ Karen G.

Dear Dan & Jean, Sending Easter and Springtime blessings to you both along with love and prayers as you deal with this Cross that you are bearing. You've been in our daily thoughts and prayers since we first heard of your illness back in August. Though we've never met, it feels as though you are a member of our family and the BEST we can do is to pray for your healing. Dan, the gift that you were blessed with was meant to be shared with others and you did just that. God is so pleased with you!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jean, This is for you...May God give you the strength and faith to be at Dan's side at this time. May you both feel His healing power. May the Light surround you. Much love.

Happy Easter my wonderful Dan. You have allowed the world into your life through song, and the world has treasured those songs. I admire your life with my whole heart. It's a life lived well. Your tremendous God given talent shows in each and every song. Your paintings I have seen here show even more talent. I stand in awe of the man you are. I am asking God to please allow you to come back to full health and have many more years to share your beauty and wisdom with this desperate world. God bless you, my friend, and keep you in his loving sight. He will heal you. I know he will, how could he not? You are a child of his love and perfection he has guided your path your whole life. No one can argue that you are one of the chosen few meant to help us in our struggle to follow an honorable path in life. I thank God for guiding me to your voice so many years ago, it has given me strength to go on when I was sure I would fall. Sending so many prayers to you. Please get well soon my friend. ~ Lynn, Va.

Dearest Dan, The news of your illness knocked the wind out of me, as I'm sure it did you, too. I have been a fan of yours from the very beginning and your words and music have always touched me, during the good times and the bad times. When I came to some trying times, I would listen to "Don't Lose Heart" and it would help me greatly. I, along with all of your fans, will always be beside you. You, and your family, are in my thoughts and my prayers for a speedy recovery. Hopefully soon we will see you back up on that stage, singing all the songs that are near and dear to you, and to us. May God bless you and watch over you during this time. ~ Patty Reiter
